How is Big Frank Doing?

Post#1 » by JMac1 » Sun Jan 3, 2016 4:04 am

I created the "Frank Kaminsky I Told You So Thread" prior to the draft. At the time, unfortunately we didn't draft him, but I am very happy with Devin Booker. Anyways, a poster on our board has been bragging about Bobby Portis and beating up Booker. The guy called me out on how I felt about Frank before the draft (To discredit my opinion of Booker), and I recalled Frank had a 20 pt game the other day. Being that he isn't a Sun I stopped following him, so I decided to looked up his numbers and to my surprise I saw that he had a 23 point game, a 15 and 16 pt game all in December, so my question to you guys is, is Frank getting more time as of late and how do you like and project him going forward?

I hope he becomes a stud, so I can say "I told you so." 8-)

Thanks.

He's been the most NBA-ready rookie Charlotte has drafted since I dunno who, even Kemba maybe. He had the rookie jitters on offense early on, deferring too much but after Al got injured and the minutes started coming in big chunks he's been arguably the 3rd best Hornet IMO (Batum and Kemba). He and Batum have tons of IQ and awareness which always makes a tremendous difference on these Clifford coached teams.

Offensively he can really stroke the three and has nice, soft finishes around the rim. Probably the worst left handed hook I've ever seen though, I don't think I've seen him make one once. He defends with his head and effort so he's pretty solid and not a liability unless he gets iso'd down low. He's susceptible to blow-bys but not as bad as you'd think and the help usually comes.

I have my doubts he'll get much better than this but he's a starter-worthy player on most teams right now so Charlotte should be happy unless Winslow or some other guys turn into real stars.

not much more to add from what BD said, just a few things.

He's better defensively than I expected. He closes out well on the perimeter and he's smart so he doesn't pick up a bunch of bad fouls.

He can really handle the ball well for a guy his size. Several times this week he has grabbed a board or got a steal and then taken the ball from FT to FT in traffic.

Sees the floor like a seasoned pro.

Has a lot of little floaters and runners that he is starting to make after missing a ton of them early.

Has a nasty pump fake which he might use too often.

He needs to get stronger in the offseason.

Rebounding needs work.

Its starting to look like it was hard to go wrong on draft night for pretty much any team in the top 20. So many good rotation players already. Surely there will be a few guys better, drafted later, but that's expected in any draft.

He is gonna be good when he gets experience. I feel much better at our chances to score/hold a lead when he is on the floor compared to when he is off it. I think he's already better than Cody Zeller. Ideally he needs to be getting 30 minutes a game already. I hope we make the playoffs so people can see him in nationally televised games but I don't think we will with how improved the East is and all our injuries unless a big trade happens. I agree that he is currently the third best Hornet behind Kemba and Nic. Would love to see him in a lineup with MKG as the small ball 4 and Kaminksy at the 5

At what point should we expect Frank to start? I feel like if we are really serious about making a run for the playoffs it needs to happen at least after the all-star break. Hes already the best big on the roster.

Kemba, PJ(MKG), Batum, Frank, Cody
Lin, Lamb, (PJ), Marv, Hawes(Al)
