I really hope that he is the player who drops out of the top 10. His offensive skill is just ridiculous. People say that Collins may be a Cody /Frank hybrid. To me this kid is better than that. He puts me in the mind of Brooke Lopez with the fully developed three point shot he has been working on.

Their collegiate numbers are close but all things being equal 4/5 shooting impacts spacing more than 2/3 shooting. Also keep in mind Markkanen was 19 at Arizona and 16 to 19 during FIBA action.

I'd bet almost anything he's gone by 11.

Free Throw
FIBA: 81%
NCAA: 83.5%
Conference: 84.1%

Distance
NCAA Long 2: 42.4%
FIBA 3P: 40.6%
NCAA 3P: 42.3%
Conference 3P: 42.1%

I don't think it's unfathomable Lauri lasts until 11. I think all that needs to happen is Collins goes ahead of him, which isn't unfathomable at all. Or maybe some team like the Kings falls in love with some other random talent and they decide to reach a bit, which is also good for us. Like, I don't think this top 10 is unrealistic:

1. Fultz
2. Ball
3. Fox
4. Jackson
5. Tatum
6. Smith
7. Isaac
8. Monk
9. Ntilikina
10. Collins

That top 10 combo is not unrealistic at all I don't think. I like Collins just as good as Lauri though

I don't disagree about liking Lauri and Collins almost equally except I currently have both solidly top 10. Wild cards are whether Monk projects strictly @ SG or combo guard, and if you believe Fox can eventually shoot (and whatever SAC does).

Ball, Fultz

Jackson, Monk, Markannen, Isaac, Fox

Collins, Tatum, Ntilikina, *OG, Smith

Markkanen is going to be ridiculous ... but he's not falling out of the top 10 IMHO.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

He would give us a crazy frontline look with Frank. Doubt he makes it to 11 though.

I think he's the best fit and the ideal pick at 11. He's decidedly a C though, I don't think he can guard many PFs at all.

Like him but he will either not drop and we already have frank.

Would pick him in a second.

Dude gets his shot off fast, he will be a tough match up for a lot of centers in the league. You never know!

Last season, we started with four seven-foot guys. I said it would never work, because only one of them could move fast--Cody. I also pointed out that we had no one except Cody and Roy who set good screens. Our guards spent the season running like the dickens trying to get open, especially with Zeller injured for so many weeks.

So I have to ask, can Markannen actually set an effective screen? Highlights do not show this kind of detail, nor do the draft "summaries."

Apparently guards were really dickening because some of CHA's best lineups included (2) 7-footers. And not for nothing, CHA's absolute highest eFG and TS was with an alleged non-screener on the floor.....kinda crazy considering it was disproportionately without Kemba.

If Markanen were a team his 134.1 individual OffRtg would've smashed the all-time NCAA record (KenPom). So yeah, gotta think he's an amazing screen setter.

The other possibility is he totally sucks at setting screens but instead creates space with his elite gravitational pull.

Arizona's OffRtg without Markkanen was < 110 and below are the OffRtg's for AZ's 5 highest minute players (this is absurd BTW)....

Lauri Markkanen: 134.1
Rawle Alkins: 113. 2
Kadeem Allem: 111.3
Kobi Simmons: 106.2
Dusan Ristic: 118.3

Will take him all day at 11, don't care who else is there or who else is on our roster.

If we end up selecting Markkanan, will we look to move Plumlee, Marvin Williams, Cody, or Kaminsky to prevent a log-jam?

I think we would move Marv for sure and Plumlee if we can get rid of him. Zeller and Frank are too good and cheap to just move out for a rookie. They can find minutes for all 3 at the 4/5 spots. Marv is most likely to go, he can play on most teams and may bring something decent back. Plumlee, I think we would have to give something up to move him out. I would start Markkanan with Zeller and have Frank back up both spots at about 30 minutes a piece for all three dudes. Give the other 6 min to plumlee to muscle guys around.

I don't think you worry about it until 2018-19. Even then Markkanen wouldn't impact Cody one bit. Possibly Frank but their skill sets don't overlap like Markkanen/Marvin/Marco.

If Marvin is traded it'll be independent of CHA's draftee, IMO.

I think this dude is way undervalued...and undermocked. I could see him going to the Suns at 5 and certainly to Sacramento at 6.

Both the Kentucky boys have issues, with Fox's shooting and Monk's size. Markkanen has elite shooting skills and isn't a stiff. He's a fluid athlete that fits the prototype of the emerging stretch 5. I'm concerned that he doesn't share the ball, but he has some alpha in him and that's the type of player you desire in the lottery.

I know it's sexy to drool over vertical leap and shuttle times, but superstars are a threat from every part of the floor. If Charlotte had the #3 pick, this is the guy I'd pick. I think he'll go higher than we're mocking him.

I was being dead serious when i said I thought our front office would take him if we had the1st pick and I actually wasnt really making fun of them. Im not going to be surprised if he ends up being the best player from this class.

if this kid drops you take him no matter who is on the current roster, thats the kinda thinking that had us passing on Drummond for Biz.
