Re: Coaching Poll
I hope the Spurs lose tonight so we can move ahead with hiring a coach.

Re: Coaching Poll
They think Udoka is more likely to be the Pop replacement and want to keep him. Messina is older so he probably wont coach that much longer too.

Re: Coaching Poll
Why would Messina leave a great position in Europe if not to take over a good situation in NBA?

This makes sense to me.
I’m not sure Messina would have the patience for our rebuilding team. He’s used to winning, veteran teams

Re: Coaching Poll
I switched my vote to Udoka. The opinion among Spurs fans overwhelmingly prefers him, and they should know best.
Either one would be a great get for us, imo, but I'd rather roll the dice with a younger guy who might be more inclined to really build a lasting legacy here. I'm not sure if Messina, who is already so distinguished, would consider Charlotte worthy of commitment if/when big-market opportunities beckoned.
I don't have any insider knowledge, but for some reason I think a relative unknown who spent years with a model small-market franchise (arguably THE model small-market franchise in all sports, no disrespect to Green Bay) would make him more willing to build a lasting legacy here if he found initial success. To me that's a top priority. I don't want to let some high-profile HC audition with us for a couple years, miraculously get us back on track, then cut bait and join Philly or whatever. That's also why I'm cool on Fizdale, as much as I admired the success as he had with Memphis, he's 100% gone the moment NY/LA/MIA calls with a fat check. I want a guy who we can stick with for a very long time, should the fit be right.
If one of Udoka/Messina leaves San Antonio and the other stays (assuming Pop returns next year) it would be very telling. There's only room for one successor and the Spurs are the type of org who play it straight. I'd absolutely expect them to nail down who got first dibs as next HC and give the other candidates a fair chance to make an informed decision based on that info.

Re: Coaching Poll
Changed to Udoka. Messina is now my 2nd. Reason being that I think we need a bit of a teardown and a younger coach would be better suited to weathering a few rough years as he develops head coaching chops, while I think Messina is probably better suited to coaching a team that can compete now. Happy with either.

Re: Coaching Poll
Future 1st ballot Hall of Famers Ginobili and Pau Gasol say that Messina is ready and deserves the opportunity to be a head coach:
