I hate how all the scouting clips that make all the prospects look like stars.

All shooting 3s like glen rice.

Which reminds me of Biyombo, how terrible the footage of him was. Couldn’t score against a chair

I want to see the measurements at the combine, but the thought of having a 6'6" guard with a 7'0" Wingspan that doesn't have a broken shot is pretty enticing. So I'm currently team SGA barring someone dropping.

Comparing Miles Bridges to McDerm is a little much, but Catch22's most hated prospects out of college have a pretty poor record in the NBA. (Though I think Gary Harris has been a pretty serviceable player.)

I'm fine with either SGA or Collin Sexton if they fall to us.

Let's fix our eternal backup PG problem and juice the second unit with length and athleticism. I think Sexton has a lot of Kemba in him, and a lot more defensive potential, he just needs to rein in his intensity and pick his spots better. Seems like Kemba could really help him along in his development.

I think our backup PG problem was just as much a creation of Clifford's crappy system/coaching as it was an actual roster problem. You don't have to have a good backup PG. You just need someone to be the primary ball handler for the second unit, regardless of position. Under Clifford/Cho we were constantly signing horrible PGs and giving them way too big of a role on the team because Clifford insisted on having three traditional PGs and giving the backup PG a big role, but this is a completely flawed approach that can prevent being able to play your best players and lineup combinations.

I think drafting someone like Sexton because he might be the highest rated PG on the board when we pick is a bad idea. Not just because he seems to have high bust potential to me, but because he doesn't really fit our roster at all even though he is a PG and we don't have anyone on the team who you would consider a traditional PG. He doesn't actually fit well at all with Kemba and Monk, so unless he is clear BPA, which I highly doubt will be the case, then I have absolutely no interest.

If the best player available happens to be a PG then we should definitely take them even if they aren't the best fit, but if not, we don't need to specifically reach for a PG and we don't need to take the Clifford/Cho approach after the draft and sign someone like MCW or Ramon Sessions and pencil them in for 15-20 minutes a game. Just bring Batum off the bench to organize the 2nd unit offense and Monk and/or Lamb as the primary ball handlers when Kemba is out of the game.

Having said that, I'm leaning towards SGA as my guy right now and he happens to be a PG who fits with both Kemba and Monk almost perfectly.

Monk is just as lost on defense as Sexton, but Monk's ability to move without the ball and shoot are soooo much more valuable in today's NBA than the ability to score in isolation. If we pick Sexton it would seriously stunt the development of Monk, I hope our front office is keeping things like that in mind. He needs to be given the opportunity to run the offense with a secondary playmaker next to him like Batum or Lamb (and hopefully SGA) that are also capable shooters.

Monk*/SGA/Batum/Frank/Willy or Cody

That second unit could be fire.

* - I list lineups more by defensive position.

I think of Monk as new Kemba and SGA would be new Batum. We should view them as interchangeable with one another. Lineup flexibility like that with a smart coach that takes advantage of it (*cough NOT Clifford) is priceless when you're going up against the elite teams of the NBA.

Hard to say at this point IMHO. I could see it going either way.

Kevin Knox measured in pretty well. 6’9’’ in shoes, just under 7 foot wingspan and only 5% body fat

Knox does not excite me. At all.

His steal rate is nearly as bad as Miles Bridges and he does nothing else as well as a guy half the board hates. Knox shoots less threes (and makes less of those), he gets fewer assists to go with more turnovers, and even blocks less. His WS and BPM numbers are all way worse.

So is this the college prospect discussion or is the other thread the one to use?

Yeah, at this point this thread isn't serving a purpose, will lock it up. We'll have prospect specific threads soon.
