2018 Hornets Big Board #1
Who should be #1? Going off NBAdraft.net for the poll options. Anyone know a better site to use since Draftexpress is gone?

Re: 2018 Hornets Big Board #1
I voted for Jaren Jackson. He's the only player in the consensus top 5 that I think has the potential to have a high positive impact on both ends of the floor (Porter does too but his back injury makes him a question mark). Ayton and Bagley could both become good defenders in time, but they have a lot of work to do there. Jackson is a better prospect than both of them. He has elite defensive instincts, he's smart and mature, and he can already shoot it. He's the perfect big man for the modern NBA.

I'm still fairly uneducated but starting to read up and watch these guys... I don't see how Ayton isn't #1. I don't doubt Doncic, Bagley, JJJ, Bagley, and Porter are going to be great players, but Ayton's upside looks to be a cut above the rest to me.
investigate Adam Silver

Doncic. Ayton has high bust potential. Doncic at the very least is Gordon Hayward. Want no part of Bagley even if he falls to 11...if he does, trade out!

Doncic. I want no part of JJJ. Not saying he will not pan out but I just don't like that chance.

Picked Ayton as I think he has star potential. Some discredit his defense, but I believe he will be a very good defender. The guy was forced to play a lot of PF in college, and there is no doubt he is a center. Arizona as a team does not play defense well. Coach playing you in the wrong position on an already bad defensive team isn't going to help any player.

Doncic all day. Could be totally wrong about him, but for some reason (precocious Euroleague success, mostly) I feel like he's more Manu/Dirk than Bargnani/Vesely. Much rather build around a guy who can shoot/create on the perimeter than a big with the rules tilted the way that they are these days.

Ayton has star potential in 1995 and maybe even in 2005. Ayton is unlikely to be a star 2015-on. I completely understand folks liking him though.
Doncic is already where the NBA is. He's perfect for the way the game is played now.
JJJ is also exactly the kind of big man that thrives today's game.

My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

Re: 2018 Hornets Big Board #1
Ayton can still be a star in today's NBA game. Joel Embiid is turning/has turned himself into a star, and Ayton has potential to be at least as good as Embiid or better. People look at Ayton as a low post, back to the basket player, and though he can do that very well, he can also play on the perimeter. Ayton shot 64% from inside the arc, and 35% from 3 pt range, and has a better jump shot than Embiid right now, and will only get better. Ayton has shown good rim protection skills, and I think he will prove to be good on the defensive side when finally allowed to play center instead of being forced to play PF like he was at Arizona.
JJJ has a good jump shot, shooting 40% from 3 pt range, and a little bit of a post game, while displaying good defensive skills and very good rim protection. He will need to learn to play smarter in the NBA. He only played 21 minutes per game due to foul trouble and turnover issues at times.
Doncic has a great skillset, and is perfect for the NBA game. Though I originally picked Ayton in this survey, I changed my pick to Doncic. I have them as 1A and 1B, but the more I thought it over, my dream scenario would involve getting Doncic. Question is, how do we get him?
Bagley is a great athlete with tremendous offensive game. He is not a good defender as of now, but has the athletic ability to turn himself into a good defender. He is a tremendous rebounder who is as explosive off the floor as anybody you will see. There are times when it seems he is jumping again before he lands from his previous jump. Was great at Duke, and remember he was supposed to still be in high school. He reclassified to go to college a year early.
All 4 of these guys have strong suits and weaknesses, but they are going and have time to improve their weak areas. Each of them need to land on a team with the right coach who can help develop their talents, and all of them have potential to be very good. I would be happy with any of them.
