I really dont understand how everyone has convinced themselves that this is a good move. Reminds me of ppls reactions when we signed MCW.

There is just no comparison betweeen the two. MCW was a gamble, a cheap gamble (1 year, 2mish). He was bringing size and defense, something that could be valuable to play either with Monk or Kemba, and even other guards (Lamb/Batum). Things went downhill because of Mcw's broken offense but above all because of the inconstancy of other bench's players (incl. a struggling Monk).

Parker is just an absolute nonsense. If Borrego really wanted to bring a guard from SA, then they could have sent an offer sheet for Anderson (yeah, no chance but at least they would not look so dumb right now) or look for a trade for D. Green (10M expiring).

Trading for Biyombo is only helping a bit in that matter, i can't understand what they plan to do if they dont at least add Ennis or another good 3D.

Since the team is not going to challenge for the title, better left the minutes for the development of some young players, than trade the players for picks when they shows progress.

I'm neutral. I think TP will be a good mentor and help Borrego install his system.

My only concern is that Parker will look totally washed, Graham will look ready to get backup minutes (already arguably happening, but let's see it in October) and that Borrego will pull a Cliff and say vets > prospects, no exceptions.

However, Parker's been hurt pretty consistently the last few years. At worst Graham will get his chances when that awful eventuality rears its head.

Leaning to no.

Old as dirt, can't shoot or defend. Don't get caught up in his name, he isn't very good anymore.

The numbers he put up last year tell me Parker is a league min player at this point. At most we should have given a 1 year deal with a team option in year 2.

I mean good players like Luc Mbah A Moute signed for 1 year 4.3 mil. Would have rather gambled on a 1 year I Thomas deal or something then signing Parker.

Agreed, Parker makes zero sense. He was one of the worst options available on the market and then they drastically overpaid him and gave him a 2nd year. Just an all around terrible signing. The Hornets were on their way out of cap hell but the Biyombo/Parker moves added a whole extra year to their poor situation.

I mean there is a decent chance Parker isnt even in the league next year had the Hornets not guaranteed his contract. His body is broken

Batum and Parker are very close. We are paying Batum about 5x what Parker makes and he did about nothing last season. If having his buddy around increases his performance then a measly 5 mil is nothing. We are already in cap hell, no point in pretending the next big free agent is walking through the door.

I'm confused

we keep hearing that Borrego wants to play 5-out and fast so the team fills its biggest need backup PG with a slow-footed 36 yo who shot 27% from 3 last year?

Gravitas. Legitimacy. That's what Charlotte is buying with Tony Parker. They overpaid a little, but Parker was brought in for the critical moments, the moments that only 17 years' experience can offer.

That, and he speaks French, which is nice for a third string point guard who's 36 and slow-footed.
