If Mitch actually picked Primo at 11 it would be your GOAT iconoclast draftnik moment  Might as well retire from the armchair GM game if that had happened, you'd never top it.

As it was the fact the Spurs picked Primo so high (and not a historically dumb team, so hey, maybe he really is awesome) was the most entertaining surprise in a draft full of them. This was me in my living room at 3am when Primo's name got called:

"Holy ****, UNCNYC **** called it."

Apparently, this actually wasn't too crazy of a scenario and it could have happened.

Jeremy Woo of Sports Illustrated reports something similar to what UNCNYC is saying. The Primo love was real, and the Spurs didn't think they would be able to get him if they moved down much further. According to Woo, the Thunder and yes, the Charlotte Hornets were teams that were high on Primo.

Per sources, the Hornets (who opted for James Bouknight, after he slid) and Thunder (who could have taken Primo at No. 16 or 18) were also quite interested. The Spurs also loved Primo and were intent on landing him.

Wow, this draft was weird in that two players I liked in Vrenz Bleijenbergh and Primo rose from a 2nd rounders to a lottery pick. I don't think I ever saw that. With Vrenze he tweeted something about contract situations with his country that prohibits him from joining a team here but he was told he would get drafted. I still love the moves we made. I have always been a bouknight and jones fan. I would have rather Primo, Sims, Butler and Pickett with the picks but what we got in return imo is nearly projection wise just as good.

I still hope we sign either Jamorko Pickett, Obadiah Noel or maybe even Nikita Mikhailovskii to summer league bit I doubt it.

Late to post, just wanted to say that I am over the moon with this draft. I had Bouknight 6th and Kai 9th on my big board so for me this was like the super unlikely dream scenario to end up with both without even giving up all that much

Outside of players that went in the top five, these two felt like they had the best combination of upside plus team fit/need

and the balls on Mitch Kupchak to swing this hard on all three picks. I love it. I guess when you draft a star like LaMelo you get a little extra leeway and a bit more job security to take these kinds of risks

This reads like a Trump tweet. So sassy lol.

Well you have to imagine if a real GM like Mitch Kupchak read some of the nonsense coming out of Dean on Draft he'd wipe his ass with it. That dude's hot takes will fry your brain like a whippet hit. It's a useless blog come draft time and I'm always taken back by otherwise intelligent fans distracted by the kernels of truth he plants into his field of bipolar hyperbole.

I wasn't a fan of Deans blog and I think I remember him rating Primo fairly low. Which turned out very wrong at least draft wise...

His positions are so extreme that when he hits on an eval it creates the illusion of accuracy and masks the equally extreme misses like Trae Young who he ruthlessly trashed. The fact most players don't pan out provide him airspace. He also has no ability to scout talent, rather applies strictly numbers to circumstances and comps that advance his agenda and hide his crude understanding of the sport. Kupchak literally has teams of scouts. No dipstick with a blog has the resources to analyze data on a pro scale. So he has to be provocative in order to attract attention. Missing on Trae Young. That's hard to do.
