There was a stretch there where LaMelo set up wide open corner 3s like 4 plays in a row and they were all clanks. Sad

I wonder if they watch this in video sessions. they should really be put to the flame. they clearly aren't serious about winning and getting to the playoffs with effort like that.
I'm sure MJ was disgusted, get him to blast them if the coaches dont want to

I don't think it is just an effort problem, but also a scheme problem. Breaking down the clips shown.
In the first one LaMelo is worried about the pick coming to his right and gets caught moving to that side to early. Defender goes the other way and just blows by him. It looks like a lack of effort the way he reaches with the arm, but he just got beat on the play and there was nothing he could do at that point.
Second clip Miles is picked off by a moving screen. If you slow it down it looks like Sims actually grabs his arm. After that we see a switch and Mason is in decent position defensively, while Miles sticks with Mason's guy. It was close to being a charge or offensive foul the way the offensive player plowed into him out of control and extended the arm a little bit at the end.
Third clip is the team in zone. Guards are late reacting on the edge and we get an easy drive that collapses the zone and then a kick for an open look form 3. The zone is going to give up open 3s, that is just part of the weakness of that type of defense.
Then the last clip a switch has already happened with Harrel on a guard and cody on the big man. They can't decide if they should switch back or not and it ends both going with the guard and the big is left open for the lob.
The problem in all of those plays is the same. Good defense has to start with ball pressure. None of our guards really get up into the space of the ball handlers on the other team and make them uncomfortable. We have not had that all year, so at some point you have to ask is it an effort problem or is the coach not asking for or demanding that style of play.
Or scheme seems to be to defend the pick and roll with switching everything, stay at home between your guy and the basket, contest and don't foul. The way the game is called right now favors the offense to much for that to work. We have to play with a more aggressive attacking style to be successful. Accept that we are going to get burned some but make our share of plays on that end as well which we can turn into transition buckets the other way.
