Re: BFHOS - BORIS DIAW
I vote no for Diaw, he was always the guy we traded for. Uber talented but never an alpha. He could be relied upon to block out, pass the ball and play solid defense.
He could be relied upon for scoring bursts but if you want him to be a leader/top scorer you would be disappointed.
He just played ball his way and was a handy piece in good sides.

Agreed with voting no.
He was one of the first “positionless” players and he did what he was asked to do - which was a little of a lot of different things.
He was who he always was. Fans just wanted him to be more.

Was Batum voted in? What's the difference between him and Diaw in you guys' opinion other than Batum getting a huge contract which is more the front offices fault than his

Re: BFHOS - BORIS DIAW
I'm also voting no on diaw. He was great in year 1. Solid in years 2 and 3 and then said **** this **** in year 4. I don't blame vets for quitting on that pathetic 7 win team it was an embarrassment of a roster. He shouldn't have quit like he did and he was infuriating to watch at times, but mostly I have positive memories of diaw.
It cost us nothing of value to dump him.

Re: BFHOS - BORIS DIAW
I don't see how anyone can vote yes for Tyrus Thomas or Sean May but no for Meow.
They brought him in hoping he could be the piece that got them over the hump. That team severely underperformed and I blame Diaw for it more than anyone else.
I have no patience for guys who have talent yet choose to phone it in because they don't give a ****. Those teams had guys like Crash, Jack, Raja Bell, etc who were absolute dogs who played hard (when sober) and maximized 100% of their talent.
Diaw was meant to be the guy who, given a larger role, could come in and be that final piece they needed. He played hard one year and then decided **** it.
Maybe I'm irrational, but I hold him accountable for ruining Crash's tenure much the same way I hold Batum accountable for ruining Kemba's time.

Re: BFHOS - BORIS DIAW
I think he was grossly misused during some of the time with Larry Brown. I don't put that all on him. I think a lot of that was coaching.
In his third year he finished third in voting in our Hammer boats. So it's hard for me to save it he really mailed it in that year. In his first year, he was definitely fantastic. The second year is the year we went to the playoffs. It was definitely a frustrating year because that team underperformed given the talent that was on the roster. But I still put most of that blame on Larry Brown's shoulders.
For me, the difference with Tyrus and Boris was that the cost for us to take on tyrus and then retain him was much greater and impacted the franchise much longer than anything that happened with Boris. We got zero good years out of Tyrus, whereas we got at least three ok to good years out of Boris. Boris mailing it in during the year for had literally no impact on the future of the team. Maybe we went 10 games that year instead of 7 if Boris place is hardest. Maybe he thanked his trade value and we could have gotten slightly more value in a trade.
I think most were just frustrated with Boris, because when he decided not to give a s***, it was very obvious. I remember those games where he iessentially would refuse to shoot.
Maybe I've just always had a soft spot for Boris because I loved the way he played when he was playing well.

Re: BFHOS - BORIS DIAW
Meh, i voted no. When he was actually trying he was good and fun to watch. If he had bailed on a team that mattered rather than the literal worst team in NBA history, maybe I'd change my mind.
He was also the source of many memes and I think him for that.

Re: BFHOS - BORIS DIAW
I crowned him Doris Meow for a reason. Respect the other opinions but this guy was a marginal player when he arrived, provided inconsistent play and was SOFT. He wanted to play lassie fare French moody ball, we needed and hired him to be an impact player. Stupid all the way around, but he could have adjusted, and refused.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Re: BFHOS - BORIS DIAW
I don't think he is bad enough. His contract wasn't terrible, he was useful for a while. He's just soft and passive.
The difference between him and Nic was Nic was meant to be one of our "stars", then he decided to stop trying when get got a new contract so we had to buy him out which makes everything even worse.

I voted no. he had terrible qualities as a player that made him seem much worse than he actually was. he was certainly no fun to watch at times when he was openly mailing it in, but he was a very effective player at times as well. I feel like he had a triple double at one point?

for me it was the drop off. I knew Batum had a lot of Diaw's placid approach to basketball but after getting that contract his stats really dropped off.

16-17 is when Batum started his good contract, the decline is terrible.
while Diaw, apart from his first season at Phoenix, we actually got his best years statistically. Apart from the crappy 7 win season where he was traded halfway through, he kept his stats consistent. He rarely destroyed the stats, even when he beat Knicks almost single handedly in that crappy season, it was the most boring 27 points you'd ever seen.
He defended well, allowing the team to switch a lot and blocked out well, something our current team can't seem to do.
He never got over excited, he never got super depressed. He was just Boris. A good passing role player.
I don't remember his trade being seen as the missing piece, he's never averaged more than 13.3 ppg in his career.
I thought it was a Brown defense for offense trade with the sharp shooting J Rich traded for 2 defenders.

Liver_Pooty wrote::-? These awards should be handed out to the worst of the worst. Diaw, and Batum don't do it for me. Trust Thomas doesn't either although I think I was pissed off and voted for it that day. It's gotta be baddd. Like, Malik Monk bad.
yeah i get it, i was on the fence for May and Batum but the writeups swung me
