Another way to read into this picks/trade is that Kai Jones and Booknight will have significant playing time no matter who the coaches is. To a certain extent, they are 2022 1st rounders, gonna need to cross fingers Kupchak did not mess up and does not overestimate their skillset/impact/value.
Hayward should become a positive asset next year. Gonna need to work on Rozier though, to make sure he is neutral value at worst and move him
the main casualty for now is the Thing. Hopefully Kupchak can get something from a Cody s&t (in a graham way).

Would rather have EJ LidellPLUSES
Skilled ball handler who freezes defenders with hesitation dribbles. He lacks elite burst but makes up for it with long strides, sort of like Brandon Ingram.
Encouraging potential as a shooter with soft touch on his floaters and a high percentage from the line. If he becomes a more consistent shooter, his handle could turn him into a go-to scoring option.
Good interior finisher even against significant contact, and he's pro-ready at drawing fouls by flailing his body around like a veteran.
Occasionally makes a slick pass off the dribble that makes you wonder what he could become if he valued playmaking as much as scoring. With his fluidity and athleticism, it’s the area that could help make him take a leap.
At 6-foot-7 with a 6-foot-9 wingspan, he has the body to become a strong defender, but he’s shown only limited flashes of potential. If he can make quick rotations and get his long arms in passing lanes, he could make things difficult on opponents.
MINUSES
Reluctant passer. He loves to isolate, overdribble, and then launch contested jumpers instead of finding open teammates. Even when the ball does leave his hands in the direction of a teammate, it’s rarely on target.
Currently a low efficiency perimeter shooter who front-rims a lot of shots. He made 30.5 percent of his catch-and-shoot 3s and struggled with consistency.
He struggled against superior competition in college. His percentages shooting off the dribble plummeted, and he didn’t make up for it as a playmaker.
He doesn’t use his off hand very often when it comes to handling and finishing.
Sloppy defender without technique, desire, or awareness at the college level. He needs to improve in every way, including his stance on-ball since he’s often flat-footed. And when I say everything, I mean it. He struggles closing out. He reaches in too much. He gets destroyed on screens. He loses focus off-ball.
That does not read......well.
He’s Bacon 2.0.
Wow, that is exactly who that sounds like actually.

I think he’s more talented offensively than Bacon but less dependable defensively.

Lets say the options for Kupcheck in draft last night was either A or B packages, which would you select?
Option A: Trading 13 for 2023 Denver first and 4 seconds
Option B: Trading 13 for 2025 Milwaukee pick and dumping Plumlee contract

Option C: Detroit really wanted Duren, NYK really wanted to dump cap, we should have gotten two firsts... if we asked for two, neither team would give up Duren/space...they would make it work...or we keep Duren

Re: 2022 NBA Draft Thread
I imagine Mitch was offered another one of the firsts rather than the 4 2nd round picks. He just values 2nd round picks more than most other GMs. He did the same thing when he flipped Dwight for Mozgov and Mozgov for Biyombo. We all threw a fit then because we wanted a 1st. We also don't value the 2nd as much as Mitch obviously does.

Hornets probably lose some leverage though if they take Duren at 13 and then Mark at 15.

In this scenario, Option A.
IMO, I feel that the two scenarios you have to weigh are:
Option A: Duren/Williams + Griffen/Ogbaji/Eason no FRP in 2023 draft
Option B: Williams + 2023 FRP + 3 2nd rounders + McGowens
For me, Mitch saw a clogged up pipeline (Kai, Thor, Bouk, McD, Richards, Kulboka + '22 FRP + '22 SRP) and wanted to kick the can down the road to next year. Gives the team a year to evaluate their core moving forward and then have a 1st next year to compliment the team how they want. Also, '23 FRP allows flexibility if they need to attach it to a player or contract.
It's not as exciting and I do think they could've gotten more value for 13, but it's not as insane as once thought for the '25 MIL 1st.
I also like Williams more than Duren, so I do think the player we keep fits nicely with our roster.
