Just finished drafting my other team. Do you think I did the right thing by taking Mullens and Ben Gordon instead of Okafor? I think Okafor might be a comeback player this year.

mully yes, gordon maybe. gordon doesnt really get you any hard cats for a sg. you can always find a few guys on the waiver wire who can score 14 and hit a few 3s with bad fg%, few steals, few rebounds, few assists. but getting 3s from center position, can be valuable, especially if mully can still rebound and block a shot per game. only worry with mully is bad fg% for a center.

I'm taking it as a given that I'm losing FG% every week, as I've got DMC and Kobe. Do you think I should drop Ben Gordon for DJA? He's been tearing up the assist column in Indiana so far.

I never really draft SGs until the last couple of rounds unless one is just a steal. If you're playing H2H, you get much more value out of PGs and PF/Cs who are stronger in individual categories.

That said, my rule is usually to stay away from Bobcats. The only one I would really consider is Bismack because he is a top 10 player in a very shallow category. Unless Mully hits the boards hard, you could get a three and a few rebounds from guys like Jason Richardson or JJ Redick and not take up a PF/C slot. Gordon is a iffy pick because you don't know if he's going to be given the minutes he needs to be an elite 3PT fantasy player. I would have taken Okafor because you're certain you'll get around 10 points, 10 boards, and a block or so.

DJ is another player I'll stay away from until he can prove he's able to do it for a whole season. He's started out really hot the past two years and slipped back away into meh status

Wizards big men rotation is quite crowded, I wouldn't be so sure about Okafor getting enough minutes whole season with Nene and emergin Seraphin competing for his spot (and need to find some minutes for Booker, Veselý at PF).

there is a thread on the GB about the rockets that has spurred 9 suspensions in only 4 pages, including charlotte 77.

i can't stress this enough fellas, if you go on the GB you better be on your best behavior and stick only to basketball and nothing but basketball. they are not messing around on that board. we have such a small fanbase, we can't afford to lose everyone due to making snide comments on the GB.

not just snide comments either, if you write nothing but just post a pic or gif, no matter how hilarious, you're likely to get suspended.

a little light on the bigs. you might struggle in blocks, rebounds and fg% as a result.

i can appreciate shooting guns as a hobby i suppose, cant say I understand the whole CCW thing. seems like a lot of people just get a kick out of carrying guns in public places. if youre in a situation where its actual legal to shoot someone (already slim to none chance of happening) youre most likely putting yourself and the people around you in greater risk by pulling out a gun anyway

You were in a bad draft slot. If I don't get a top 4ish pick, I like to be towards the bottom so I can pick up a guy who fell. That said, your first two picks were the guys I probably would have gone with.

Paul Pierce in round 3 is meh for me. I tend to stay away from old guys and don't like to take SG/SFs so highly in fantasy drafts. I would have gone with a guy like Gortat, Parker, or taken a flyer on Davis.

Iggy is one of the better all-around fantasy wings so it's hard to fault taking him in the 4th, but it makes the Pierce pick redundant and now you've missed out on a second high tier point or big. Millsap/Noah/Randolph/Pekovic would have been my targets (and I'd try and trade Pierce for one of them).

Lillard in the 5th and MKG in the 6th have potential to be really good or really meh. Probably don't want him to be your second PG taken though--and Pekovic was still available. And MKG makes your third wing in a system where they're not valued as highly.

Nelson in the 7th is another hard to gauge pick. He has the opportunity to put up bigger numbers, but with the lack of talent, you wonder if he can actually do it. I might have taken a flyer on DeAndre Jordan.

Glen Davis might be a sneaky good pick. He did really well last year when Dwight went down, and if he carries that forward you'll get a great pick. If he starts off fast, try and move him to maximize his potential. Asik and Bismack were possibilities for their shot blocking potential.

Dalembert is meh, solid production, hard to fault it because he's a steady player but I would've gone for a younuger guy like Hickson or Favors for their upside potential.

Ariza is solid production, but yet another wing. I honestly would have taken Rubio and stashed him as trade bait (or just kept him) until the future but you could've done worse

Augustin... again would have gone for Rubio and I really don't like Auugustin as a fantasy option.

Great pick getting Parsons this late

Rush is hard to gauge. If he gets minutes you'll be happy, but he's going up against Barnes so it's hard to tell

Sucks you missed Drummond by two picks but Zeller could be productive if he carves out some minutes

Personally don't like Diaw so I wouldn't have drafted him but he does have some value if he truly got back in better shape.

Overall you did pretty good for where you were picking. 6 SF eligible guys is far too many though and I'd try and swing a trade getting some of them out for another PG or big. Don't want you to think I'm nitpicking or anything, just adding some input because you asked

I enjoy shooting but I don't do it very often outside of some very occasional squirrel hunting. I'm worthless with handguns though. I'm perfectly fine with CCW and extremely pro-gun in a libertarian kind of way but generally I feel like if I should be strapped at a certain place or time I probably shouldn't be there anyway.

Slim to none chance of it being legally justified or slim to none chance of being in a life endangering situation?

Might surprise you, but you're pretty much always legal to fire as long as your life or someone else's is in imminent danger. If your home is getting robbed with you in it (Castle Doctrine), if you're being attacked on the street or in a parking lot (stand your ground laws), or if you're in a situation where you're defending someone else's life (gas station cashier being held at gunpoint and you're a patron), etc. etc.

I could see where you'd think it'd put yours and other lives at risk due to not knowing if the bad guy actually would shoot and you might escalate the situation. But that's where training and reasonable judgement come into play. I would much rather be in a situation where I have to make the judgement call of drawing on a guy approaching me in a parking lot with a baseball bat than having nothing but my pocket knife on me to defend my health/life. (to use an example)

The only time you wouldn't "be able to" is in establishments that serve alcohol, but the SC House has passed a bill (H3665) by a large majority (90 to 5) to change that.. and it will likely be approved by the Senate.

I live in and commute daily through Columbia, not the safest place on earth. In the past three or four months, there have been numerous people attacked while either on campus or near it (Cha 77 can attest to as much), someone in my neighborhood was robbed at gunpoint last month, and an In The Hood Fashions was robbed in broad daylight the other day (which is on the route I jog on a daily basis).

Serious question, what would happen if I reported tsherkin's post for being off-topic?

Honestly, that's very true. Half the battle is avoiding sketchy situations like walking back from 5 points down a dark street at midnight while drunk (Play stupid games, win stupid prizes). But unfortunately, criminals will be criminals and there's really no stopping them unless you're able to.

That Aurora, CO theater was a no-carry zone, which gave that criminal free reign to go to work on a captive audience. Had a couple of people been able to take their CCWs in they might have stopped the carnage, or it may have even served as a deterrent.

Take this recent situation for example. http://m.jsonline.com/news/crime/teen-c ... 48841.html

I don't have any kids, but that man was with his 5 year old. We don't know if the thugs would've actually fired, but I'd much rather see a story of a man protecting his and his child's life than being killed.
