Re: The Brickhands Biyombo Thread 2.0
People are almost just making up crap about Biyombo now.
High turnovers? seriously? he averages 1.4 per 36... as a defensive big that is quite excellent.
He is our team leader in rebounds and blocked shots at 20 years old, we are also no longer the worst team in the NBA also (thanks Orlando) to be team leader in those categories means something in only 27mpg
Biyombo is beyond solid imo, bench big at worst in the NBA imo, he has incredible upside and is actually 4 years younger than Larry Sanders for context, no one is saying that fans or posters have to be sold on Biyombo but can we please at least give him a chance?

I agree that you must take team DRtg into consideration when comparing players with similar DRtg. Problem is, teams have lower DRtg because they have guys who are good defenders in the post. Case in point, your top post defenders in DRtg:
Duncan
Hibbert
Sanders
Noah
Garnett
Gasol (MEM)
Okafor
Howard
My point is that Biyombo needs to be on that list if he's ever gonna compensate for his terrible offensive ability. Please note that I'm not saying he's a terrible defender, just that his blocks are not impacting the team's overall defense in any dramatic way.

1.4 per 36 out of how many touches? You see, that's what TOV% is for:

See, this is the part that frustrates me - the constant references to Biyombo's "best care scenario" as if wishful thinking should be the norm. Look at Sanders' DRtg. He's had a notable impact on defense from Day 1.
This is an area where I think Biyombo's lack of high-level coaching is hurting him. Perhaps that's why Charlotte brought Haywood in - to help?
no one is saying that fans or posters have to be sold on Biyombo but can we please at least give him a chance?
He's already played well over 3,000 minutes in the NBA, but I don't see why he cannot continue to get minutes, especially if they're in place of Diop, Thomas, or Mullens. Regardless, losing a ton of games next year is essential to The Plan.

Biyombo is decidedly a better player this year than Larry Sanders was in his first two years.

He has back to back double doubles, it is hard to tell if he is actually improving because we are playing a lot of backups from other teams at the end of the season but he used to have trouble simply catching a pass so he has to be improving some.

I think we can put an end to the brick hands label after the Rice/Montana moment he and McBob had last night.

The game is starting to slow down for Biz. I know that some of you are scared to be wrong, but Biz will be heck of a player in a few years.

Biyombo did little this year to support the notion he was worth the lottery pick. "Works really hard" and "improved dramatically" (which is debatable) aren't support. There are plenty of D-league players that "work really hard" and "improved dramatically" over the past two years. Developing from a crappy role player to a less crappy role player won't cut it. Next year is the make or break year for this guy.

Disagree. Season after next is when I think he will break through. But he must improve his consistency next season

Biz must be sad to see the season end, he ended it on such a good note.

This is completely wrong Nanogeek, why do you hang onto this notion so vehemently?
Bismack Biyombo leads an NBA team in both rebounds and blocked shots as a 20 year old who has been playing organised ball for about 5 years.
This guy has shown tremendous improvement as anyone who actually watches Bobcats games would know and tell you, not a single poster is claiming that Biyombo is a DPOY candidate or is better than a player like Larry Sanders at this point in time but he is a role caliber big in the NBA already, for the youngest player drafted in 2011 and the current seventh youngest player in the L, that is great news for the Buzzcats, especially when you use the context of how raw he was when he was drafted, which SURPRISE WE KNEW, he is actually further along than we could have hoped at this point in time, which shows that the rep he had as an intelligent, high character and high motor guy was spot on.
Go to the Wizards board and pick on Jan Vesely or something, that would actually, you know, be justified.

Now that Biz can catch he is a threat on the fast break as well. I really hope his good work on offense carries over of course along with improved rebounding.

As usual, I disagree with you about Biz. He is a project. I'm not concerned at all yet. I think he'll make a jump to becoming decent next year, and then the following year, make the Sanders jump. 2014-15 is looking like a good year.

Re: The Brickhands Biyombo Thread 2.0
As one who has been critical of picking Biz and of his potential, let me say that his progress late this season has been encouraging. In truth, Cho wanted his version of Serge Ibaka, and I believe he will ultimatly have a lesser version of him here with Biz. Biyombo is improving his rebounding and defense, and he will get even better in this regard. His offense will always trail Ibaka's, and Serge is no great shakes as a scorer anyway.
But I do think Biz will work and will his way into a better player than I thought he could be. That is good news for all of us.

Congrats to Biz for breaking Okofor's multiblock games in a season record, with 44. He does it without fouling out. He's 20.

I think Biz could turn into a better post defender. Ibaka is a great shot blocker with weakside help but he can be scored on fairly easily matched up one on one.

I attended 30+ Bobcats games this year and the last 10 home games and didn't see much progress for Biyombo. He's still watching the game more than he should and his rebounding positioning varies between terrible to non-existent. He's shown some improvement on defense but its slow going. Offensive continues to be horrific. There was a NBA scout in our box last night who agreed with most of this. He thought Biyombo was still suffering from his relative newness to the game so it was difficult to tell how much of his lack of improvement is due to a ceiling or a steep development curve.
I think Biyombo is a great role player for the team. My laments in this thread to date have been (1) the growing concern that he won't develop into a starter level player or a DPOY-type player in the near term; and (2) that with alot of the mania that we are going to sign him to a ridiculous contract based on potential many years from now. I'm already concerned we are going to sign McRoberts to some crazy contract because he was the best big on a crap frontline.

Nice!
My favorite is the fastbreak vs. CLE at 3:10". I distinctly remember watching that moment, in that game, and when he caught that ball on the run and dunked it, thinking, he's got this, Biz can do this, Biz is more than fine.
