Hate it. Hansbrough is pure garbage. I wish we were more interested in fielding a good team then placating fans with BS like this. Not surprised at all. I think I've officially hit rock bottom as a fan of this team. Only thing that could make it worse at this point is extending Al.

If he gets the full MLE I might have to go ahead and commit seppuku. Its like we're trying to put together a college all-star team of guys who haven't really made it in the NBA yet. Kemba, Lamb, MKG, Hansbrough, Marvin, and Harrison, all won NCAA championships. Frank and Hansbrough won player of the year and Kemba was runner up. We have tons of college all-american awards and zero all-star berths or awards of any kind (other than Al's 3rd team all-NBA... yay). We have tons of NCAA championships and conference championships and zero playoff wins. Great job guys.

Hornets sign Tyler Hansbrough

Post#105 » by yosemiteben » Wed Jul 22, 2015 12:26 pm

I'm annoyed because it's Tyler Hansbrough and it's personal with me as a Duke fan.

As a signing, I don't get what there is to freak out about. He's random big depth, which we needed. He's better than Maxiell. We have the MLE, why not use it? Any better big options out there right now?

If it's a cheap deal, or at least a short term deal with a TO or something, my only issue will be that he is my arch nemesis.

haha the people who are getting irrationally upset over this are awesome. I don't even like Hansbrough but let the hate flow through you. You're ready to burn the franchise to the ground over an essentially irrelevant player. Get over it.

has anyone ever really just said "meh" on twitter though? You might have missed the memo that you have to have an extreme opinion.

Todd Quinter is going to get to prove that he's earned that paycheck as pro scout.

If we are gonna sign a guy who can only get offensive rebounds and look really clumsy doing it why not just resign biz? He at least has long ass arms.

We have a pretty ridic college all star team. All we need are some ACC refs and we got the o'brien trophy in the bag.

*I haven't looked at the money yet, but if he signed for more money than biz did in toronto....

I freaked out last night and now I'm just meh about it.

He had bizarrely solid RPM numbers last year, ranked 62nd among all players. He was +5.9 on offense and -4.3 on defense.

You have to look at the bigger and not just the signing on its own. We let Biz go so we could have our full MLE and we are using the extra room on a player who is much worse but fits our front offices twisted vision. We would have been much better off just keeping Biz and using the bi-annual or whatever we had left of our MLE on Lin. This signifies to me that our front office actually thinks Tyler Hansbrough is a better option than Biz, which to me signifies that they are complete jack asses and we are basically without hope.

Once again, I don't think financial reasons are we why let him go.

Either way you can view this as us replacing Biz with Hansbrough, which is why its annoying.

That's the net effect, yes. I don't think they went into the offseason targeting Hansbrough to take Biz's spot. I think they wanted to move on from Biz, made some moves, knew they needed an end of the bench big, and figured Hansbrough would be worth a shot since he's still available.

It wasn't a direct judgment of Hansbrough vs. Biz when they were deciding whether to try to keep Biz.

With that said, I think it's reasonable to criticize the FO for not trying to keep Biz around and don't really have a problem with people doing that. I like him, but my interest in home is mostly sentimental at this point.

The more I look at this the more I think the team is telegraphing their next move. I think Zeller will be traded and it's too bad but something has to give. The Kemba/MKG/Zeller dynamic isn't a workable starting unit. It's not their fault and each could be a starter elsewhere. I'd rather they move Kemba but that doesn't seem in the cards.

You may be right, but I don't think the Hansbrough signing adds any more evidence to that.

I don't think Zeller nets us a starter that's an improvement, so I think it's more likely that our long term plans are to try to groom Frank to start and bring Cody off the bench, or slide Cody to the 5.

What would we be trading for though? We just gave up a top 10 draft pick for a "SG" who we promised a starting role. MKG, Kemba, and Al seem safe. Do you think we are just trading Zeller for an older PF or backup wing? Both of those options seem foolish to me. I could get behind packaging Zeller and Al for a good starting center but I don't know who would really be available. I guess we could do a similar package for a PF and use Kaminsky as a center. I wonder if Zeller + Al + lottery protected 1st could net us a really good big.

Yeah I don't either. If TH is getting meaningful minutes then something has gone wrong. But I do think he is insurance for a Cody deal who will be shopped for a non big. I think they'd roll with another wing instead of TH if they were standing pat.

On what planet would signing an end of the bench guy in Hansbrough signify anything? If you are in anyway correct in thinking Hansbrough is a seen as a integral part of the rotation; our Front Office is hopeless and I'll start pulling for Hawks or Magic.

I think if you polled random people in Charlotte on what college they thought Cody went to UNC would win.

Zeller for a wing. Imo the team realized that starting 4 is unworkable in modern basketball. I also think they tried to trade both NV and Cody, not just one.
