This is spot on!
I know MKG was 'our guy' and drafted #2 overall, but the latitude we give him is pretty huge, and for good reason. MCW was picked at #11, won ROY, averaged 15/7 as a rookie (albeit on a crappy team) and is a defensive, oversized PG that is only 25 years old.... but we act like he can't improve or he's a bum.
We are only looking for a backup PG and someone that could shift into the starting lineup in emergency situations, not a starting PG. Considering what the market has paid this FA period, I think we got a steal. Philly, Milwaukee and Chicago's personnel and operations have been in shambles the past few years. Let's at least wait and see what he does in a more positive environment as a back-up guard that isn't depended upon for greatness.
Not saying there isn't some cause for concern considering his numbers have dipped, but it's not like we're talking about a 30 year old journeyman role player.
