Yeah from what I've seen he didn't hardly even entertain going anywhere else.

it was not willingly. he dangled out there for a week waiting for better offer. we were one of few teams with money and a need.

We paid Oubre more than Holmes got after Holmes signed in SAC. I extremely highly doubt we prioritized Oubre over Holmes.
I don't think we just didn't notice Holmes out there or thought nah he doesn't fit a need.

Guarantee the team thought "PJ is a great backup C and Plumlee is a more than serviceable starter"
I was banging the "sign Holmes" drum early and often on the TnT board
Very puzzling indeed

Well, I guarantee the team offered Holmes a contract and thought "this will be the last piece we need" until he decided to stay home.
See how that works?

Re: Plumdog Millionaire: The Mason Plumlee Thread
my best guess is after we added mason and drafted 3 centers in last 2 drafts, plus small ball PJ, front office felt we had invested enough.
or we put feelers out there and holmes wanted more to come here.
but i do think had we prioritized him, we could have landed him on a decent deal.
the oubre signing never made much sense to me. always just felt like a marriage of convenience. he didnt fill a need, plus derailed the development of lotto pick.
we needed centers, pgs and 3pt shooting.

you're 100% right on the center situation. The Plumlee trade was a classic Rich Cho esque "half measure" at center, and what's the point of drafting 3 centers if none of them are good enough to crack the rotation. It's kind of unbelievable we actually managed to downgrade the center position from last year.
The Oubre signing will be really handy when Hayward has his annual month(s)-long injury, I'd say that definitely fit a need, but not more than a good center.

Plumdog Millionaire: The Mason Plumlee Thread
I’d mentioned that he seemed to be getting less athletic as the season went on.
He’s played with more power these last couple of games, and his output has reflected that.
Could he have been carrying an injury and the downtime forced by COVID allowed him to freshen up?

I hope so, he really pulled down some important rebounds down the stretch against Indiana. The easiest fix for Charlotte is for Plumlee to become dependable.

Re: Plumdog Millionaire: The Mason Plumlee Thread
If Plumlee from these last two games translates to the entire season, we're a much better team... still should be looking for an upgrade, but he was fine in those two games and wasn't actively dragging us down. baby steps

Glad he performed well, but it always strikes me as fools gold when these little bursts occur in the NBA. Any decent league player can have a standout game or two. Call me jaded but Plumlee doesn’t instill confidence in me for the every game results we need. I like him, but as a reserve center.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Re: Plumdog Millionaire: The Mason Plumlee Thread
mason shoots 92% on reverse dunks, but only 31% on all other shot inside 6 ft (made up stat that feels real).
i dont undersatnd how a guy which such great hands and feel for game between FT lines is so utterly lost trying to score from outside 6 inches.

Re: Plumdog Millionaire: The Mason Plumlee Thread
Last night when he went 0-3 on that one trip to the line where he missed them all so badly, and then airballed his 4th FT attempt, was just pathetic. How is he a professional basketball player? Just gross...

In hindsight the only decent thing to come out of the trade with Detroit was JT Thor. Plumlee is just as gross as Zeller and Biz. I'd be happy to start Nick from here on out once he gets over his injury.
I don't think anyone is keen on a Plumlee reunion next season.
