Melo is magic. It's like helicopters, indoor plumbing, and childbirth.
I don't wanna question how it works, so long as it does.

It's real and not surprising. Melo was never leaving Charlotte like some had thought.

Signing the max =/= demanding a trade within 5 years. I put even money on him demanding out unless they become contenders and I honestly couldn't really blame him.

GD lambasting the max as one of the worst deals in history, saying things like calling the Jerami Grant max a better deal.
I know the Hornets deserve the hate, but lol

Really it is 5/205 unless he makes All NBA and it turns to supermax. If Lamelo makes AllNBA before being 25 I think we would all be fine with paying the extra money.
Here is the breakdown of the money.
This year- 10.9
First yr of max - 35.5
then 38.3
followed by 41.1
year 4 is 44 million
year 5 is probably an option for one of us 46.8

Oh yeah for sure a couple of years down the line is when him leaving becomes a real possibility.
Hopefully we build a winning roster around him. He's clearly the franchise player we are building around. Makes the Miller pick even more clear now. That pick was made for Ball.

Are talking heads really laughing at the Melo extension? I assumed everyone knew it was a forgone conclusion. They would have killed us if we didn't offer it.
It's always lose lose with the media.

It's a terrible contract if he doesn't get healthy.
However, if he is healthy it's solid. All these contracts are nuts with the cap increase stuff.

Desmond Bane got essentially the same contract from Memphis.
Desmond freaking Bane.
Granted he's a very good player, but I'm more than okay maxing Melo

Re: Max Contract & Re-Signed: The LaMelo Ball Thread (#2)
Everyone was celebrating Haliburton getting paid the same thing and he's never led a team to a winning record. In fact when he was traded his former team took an immediate leap. That's probably not fair to him, but it's still what happened.
LaMelo meanwhile led a team to 43 wins in his 2nd season and when he missed most of the next season that same team had the 4th worst record in the league.
He's proven more than Haliburton has, that's a fact

We had to do it, he apparently wanted to do it all along and I am glad to have Melo signed up with no drama. Now he needs to get healthy and turn into the leader a 200 million guy should be.

Don’t sign him and we’re cheap and not committed to winning. Sign him to the max and it’s an over pay. He declines max and it’s just as they all predicted.
LaMelo signing the max because he’s worth it and wants to win in Charlotte is something the media doesn’t know how to comprehend

Re: Max Contract & Re-Signed: The LaMelo Ball Thread (#2)
Evidently Haliburton is miles better than Melo.
People automatically think anyone who plays for Charlotte sucks. We're basically the Lions of the NBA, before they became decent the past couple years.

I think it has more to do with what have you done lately... Melo was hurt whereas Haliburton was an Allstar.
Dillon Brooks, Rudy Gobert, Jordan Poole, Deandre Ayton and Khris Middleton are all guys that are coming off meh years. All will have much better years this year and probably double their value in the next 6 months.

If Bridges hadn't missed the whole of last season for being an abusive POS, his agent could easily point to Bane and tell the Hornets FO "My client is better. Pay him $207M." and would have a very real case.
Melo is a no-brainer. He was an all-star at 20. If you can lock him up at any price, you do it.
