fun fact, he's three years younger than Cody Martin

he's better defensively and probably less destructive offensively. I assume we're gonna be picking between the two at the deadline, and I hope we trade Martin

Pretty similar player to Cody without the playmaking.

After shootaround today before tonight's tilt with the Los Angeles Lakers, Josh Green was asked about Josh Okogie's arrival. The Hornets have gone 4-2 since they acquired Okogie on January 15. Green said, "Josh (Okogie) has been amazing. Coming in, he's been a vocal leader and a veteran in the locker room, which has been great... The energy he's brought from us, offensive rebounds to defensive rebounds, pushing the pace, it's been amazing. He's great to play with."

The sample size is really small, but Okogie has been a revelation for the Hornets. He has a team-high 123.2 offensive rating. His defensive rating is second among all Hornets at 95.2, and only Jared Rhoden is lower but he's only played about 10 minutes on the entire season. In the same sense, Okogie leads in net rating by a wide margin at 28.0. Among regulars, only Moussa Diabate is still a net positive in that metric.

Confirms what I see with my eyes, watching them play since he's arrived. He is a massive massive upgrade over Tidjane Salaün. Okogie is a breakout candidate. I love having a bulldog like him guarding the perimeter. DSJ was that guy and with Mark called up and Plumlee dealt, Hornets played some excellent defense. Rim protectors are far more effective when someone like Okogie can disrupt the rim attacker from getting down hill.

Really nice target. And I am becoming more convinced we traded Nick Richards for the player, moreso than the picks. But the distant 2031 Suns/Nuggets 2nds are still nice.

Okogie has played in 4 games, we are 2-2 in those games. The whole 4-2 since acquiring him feels like a bit of fraudulent statement since he didn't play in the first 2 games post trade.

Okogie has actual muscle, instincts, and experience playing man level basketball. Compared to our pathetic collection of wings and forwards that makes him a gigantic upgrade.

Obviously a lot of his usefulness is going to come down to that 3 point percentage. The 40% seems unsustainable given his career percentages. However if he can just somehow level out at 35% I think that would be enough to justify keeping him in the rotation And perhaps look at picking up his contract for next year. He gives the team something that has been missed a little bit since Grant has been out and that's just some physicality And from what it sounds like some vocal leadership on the floor. Sometimes it just takes a new voice a new face in the locker room to create some energy and some buzz. Probably not so different than what Nick Richards is doing for the Suns at the moment.

Immediately have to make it about Tidjane. Lol.

Well, he isn't getting Nick Richard’s minutes. That's obvious. He inherited Salaün's minutes. Subtract a large minus symbol, add a big plus.

Mark returning to form is as big an upgrade over Nick Richards.

And NSJ inherited Miller's minutes which is a downgrade, but he is a huge upgrade from KJ Simpson who up until recently saw more minutes, and was a part of the tank record. I'm curious to see if Mann replaces Micić or if we trade for a PG2 or just ride out Micić.

And we didn't even have Brandon for those games. So effectively we "downgraded" from a 20ppg scorer+10ppg back-up big to a career bricklayer and young Biz, and just annihilated a team with Zion by 30. Has to be a message there.

Nick Richards 4 fouls 3 TO in 20 min -16 +/- on 3-7 shooting. Zubac had 25/16.

Okogie 19 points 4 steals in 25 minutes, played brilliant on both ends.

I'm more and more surprised the Hornets were the team receiving draft capital in this exchange. Suns desperately needed someone with Richards' archetype.

Clearly Okogie just needed minutes. He had to guard Booker, Durant, and Beal in practice.

This is a guy you want to assign to the other team's top scorer unless it's a center like AD or Jokic (in which case your center has to do a better job).

But clearly Okogie can guard 1-4, hit open 3's. I love how he plays with so much pace.

Anyone missing Nick Richards?

If Okogie is going to go from a career 30% 3pt shooter to shooting 44% for the Hornets moving forward then yeah he is a great pickup. I am just trying to be the voice of reason he is probably due to make 1 out of his next 15 threes at this rate lol.

which would bring him down to Cody Martin level 3-point shooting, while still being better in other areas
