Trying to figure out how this would be considered small lineup.

Neither is a center. They'd get eaten alive by the Grizzlies frontcourt.

Ok got it. So assuming they don't play the Grizzlies every game, how is this a small ball lineup?

Yes but they also get to play against Jordan, Howard, Bogut/Ezeli, Mozgov, Lopez, Nurkic, Drummond, Hibbert, Pekovic, Kanter, Vucevic, Cousins, Gobert, Gortat, etc.

Even mediocre Al would destroy them offensively as well.

Maybe. But that just means they're getting destroyed. Vonleh playing the 4 is not small ball. The implication is that he usually plays the 3.

Any lineup playing small ball that includes Vonleh is with him at 5. And definitely not with vonleh at 4 and Leonard at 5.

I'm not the biggest Al fan, but calling him "mediocre" offensively is an incredible stretch.

But I'm open to be regaled about the hulking figure that normally plays the 5, while Leonard starts at 4 and Vonleh at 3.

I was saying the mediocre version of Al. When Al is on point, he's pretty damn good. He was highly mediocre last season though.

The Noah Vonleh Thread

I think guys like Myles Turner, Portis, Lyles, and McGary all show at least as much potential as Vonleh, and given the opportunity I would've traded any of them for Batum.

I was kind of hoping we'd see some Biz/Zeller/Vonleh/shooter/Kemba lineups in our future for stretches, but it apparently wasn't meant to be.

This. Maybe not Mcgary but he's already useful. So this

Have people watched the same Vonleh that I have in college and thus far in his pro career? Playing him at the 3? People complain about Marvin being too slow to play the 3. Same thing with Vonleh if not worse. This kid has great physical tools, but other than a 3 point shot which is streaky he hasn't shown much at all. Lost as all hell on defense.

I haven't been a fan since day one. There was no reason to be.

Watching Vonleh is like watching a longer less offensively skilled Beasley. Fans see more than what's there.

I'm trying to figure out how to monetize the "Vonleh is going to be amazing" angle. Wish I could short athletes.

After we traded Vonleh I really wanted to buy back into the 1st round and pick up Portis. O thought he would have easily replaced Vonleh - and we then would have basically got Batum for Henderson straight up, which would have been lovely.

I like to think of the trade as Batum for Vonleh...since I was hoping Hendo would opt out anyway.

Where does freshman Vonleh even get drafted in 2015?
