Funny thing is, I could picture Batum being pretty good with the Warriors. Fits their defensive scheme in terms of switching and is happy to pass the ball to all of their shooters all game long.

Him and Marvin would be great (albeit) overpaid on a lot of the contenders as low usage 3nD guys

Is it crazy that I think we should go for a Wiggins trade? If the Wolves are as desperate to drop his contract as reports are claiming, then I think it’s possible that we can swing a deal that has us taking Wiggins along with a lightly protected first from them. We have hit rock bottom. Absorbing Wiggins contract right now ain’t gonna make us much worse

The Wolves need cap space. It would have to be a 3 team trade where the other team absorbs Batum into their cap space. I think there are only 3 teams that can do that - the Knicks, Clippers, and Grizzlies. I think the Knicks would take Teague, but they'd likely balk at taking Batum. If we actually want Wiggins we'd probably have to send out Biz + Marvin/MKG.

Edit: I think the Kings might have the space too if they let WCS walk.

Minnesota isn't trading two future firsts to get rid of Wiggins (and Teague I guess). Now that D-Lo is going to GS, they have no incentive to do this.
Who I woulda took:
2023: Miller | 2022: Duren | 2021: Bouknight, Jones | 2020: Ball | 2019: PJ | 2018: MPJ | 2017: Monk | 2016: Damian Jones | 2015: Winslow | 2014: Vonleh, Napier | 2013: McLemore | 2012: MKG | 2011: Knight, Kawhi

I proposed that before Russell was signed and traded to the Warriors.

The Wolves are likely desperate to salvage something out of this offseason. I'd still consider taking on Wiggins and sending them expiring contracts (Marvin and MKG) if they're willing to attach an unprotected 2020 1st.

Warriors Expected To Eventually Trade D'Angelo Russell

The Golden State Warriors will acquire D'Angelo Russell in a sign-and-trade with the Brooklyn Nets, but he may not be a long-term part of their franchise.

"D'Angelo Russell does not fit there whatsoever," said Marc Stein of the New York Times on the Dan Patrick Show. "They just did not want to see Kevin Durant walk out the door with no compensation. ... They will trade him. It's just a matter of when."

Russell will receive a four-year, $117 million contract from the Warriors.

The Minnesota Timberwolves and Los Angeles Lakers also expressed interest in Russell.

Wouldn't Batum be AMAZING on the Warriors? They wouldn't need him to score - just play his game and be an Iguodala replacement.

Bats
for
Russell

DO IT!!!

Curry - Thompson - Batum - Green - Jones

Rozier - Russell - Miles - PJ - Cody

Bats and MKG
For
Russell and Livingston
(then Livingston retires after the trade - he's just there for his $7mil salary filler)

They get a 5 year younger version of Iggyin Bats to replace Iggy and they add some much needed bench depth and an energy/impact player who is young (and expiring) in MKG.

We get a young stud SG who would compliment Rozier.

I think that Nic will prove to be impossible to trade unless it's for a guy like Wiggens.

MKG is an expiring who is a bad fit here. That's a contract I look to see if the Hornets move.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

I think a combination of Bats and MKG is better for them than Russell. I'm not just saying that because I'd love the deal for us - I actually believe it!!!

Will Russell be as effective with less of the ball than he had in Brooklyn?
There are already questions about how he'll fit with the Warriors.

Bats is a consummate role player and would likely excel as the 4th option (#1 Curry, #2 Thompson #3 Green) but do what he does (passing, 2nd or 3rd string facilitator, play D etc) really well.
He'd also slide into their locker room easily because he's a vet and "no fuss".
Plus he expires 2 years earlier than Russell, so earlier cap space when the Warriors have to start their inevitable rebuild.
Bats is the same age as Curry, Thompson and Green (all 29-31).
Bats helps the Warriors continue with their "win now" mode.

MKG gives them depth, something they lack.
He provides them with many different line up options (D oriented with MKG - Green and Bell) or as a small ball line up (with Poole at the 3, MKG at the 4 and Green at the 5).
MKG expires after next year - which gives some much needed cap space in the immediate future for the Warriors.
And maybe they can re-sign him after being there for 1 year on the cheap after he gets a taste of competing for a ring.

The Warriors were the team rumored to sign Batum back in 2016 as well.

My understanding is we are $12m under the tax and have the Dwight trade exception to work with still. Seriously, Batum fits better on the Warriors roster than any other roster. He fits their defensive scheme very well and they all pass the ball so well which is another trait of Batum's. I have no clue how or if the numbers could work, but the Kemba Walker sin is quickly forgiven if we end up with Russell who is 23 years old as our top guy.

Go all in on mediocre young guys and hope our development staff is ready.

Char. out:
Batum
MKG
Monk
Zeller

Char in:
Russell
Wiggins

GS out:
Russell

GS in:
MKG
Monk
Zeller
Manny pick

Minny out:
Wiggins
Protected pick

Minny in:
Batum

Kind of odd attempt to build with a lot of young guys but worried about the deals the two guys we get are on but the team could be interesting to watch.

Yup. Good memory.

Agreed. I was thinking he'd fit on the Lakers as well if they are loading up for a run, but they have nothing to trade and they don't have the outside shooting that the Warriors have.

I have no clue how or if the numbers could work

I believe that Bats and MKG for Russell and Livingston literally almost matches to the exact dollar - although BoB should confirm.

but the Kemba Walker sin is quickly forgiven if we end up with Russell who is 23 years old as our top guy.

We pooched the Walker opportunity but if we walked away from this period with Walker out and went into next season with Rozier and Russell in that would be a massive win IMO.
