I'd also be willing to attach a prospect to Marvin, say Bacon. I like the idea of Marvin to Utah. They're a win now team and they have no use for Burks. Marvin makes them better.

Hornets
Burks (expiring)

Jazz
Marvin
Bacon

I know your stance on MKG but where is he in this? If traded where and who/what comes back?

Sent him out for Ross in a 3 team deal where he joins Trae Young and Collins for the Hawks rebuild, and sends the Magic Schroder. Magic needed Trae Young but the Hawks foiled that plan. It's a couple posts back in this thread.

Do we open one max slot and make a play at Kawhi Leonard?

As in sign Kawhi next offseason, or trade for him now

Would love Kawhi here, but he want sign here as he will head to the LA next offseason. Our only hope is to trade for him, have a very good season, and Jordan help him get a sweet shoe deal through Jordan brand with the understanding that he resigns here.

The difference between Monk and Klay is like the difference between Frank and Durant.

Kawhi isn't coming here in FA.

Come back to reality.

Yeah we don't have any chance for any top FA. Heck the best player ever we got in FA was AlJeff.
Now to trade for Kawhi is another thing, but we don't have the resources for that either. I would love to have 1 year with him for a moderate price, but others will have much better offers. What could be our best? Miles, Frank, Batum, future first?

 I figured with all the negativity permeating the board I would balance it out with a little irrational optimism of my own.

Resigning lamb to a deal approaching 10 million or more is a really bad idea. We can't afford to keep our books clocked with mediocre players on big contracts. We've got to get to a situation where we have two types of contracts on the book potential All-Stars and rookies. If we don't feel a player is going to have the potential to turn into an All-Star we need to flip them for an asset before they get to that next contract. It's tough love but it needs to be done. Good teams should always be able to find players that can produce at the levels that lamb and Frank have done by hitting on guys late in the first round and early second round. Or through cheap free agent deals or D League prospects. He can't have your 6th 7th and 8th man on your team making 10 million dollars or more a year. It just makes no sense.

How do we know Lamb is a mediocre player? He averaged 24 minutes a game, playing mostly with scrubs, in a terrible season. The guy is going to start terrorizing opponents. Dude is YOUNG too!

A Q for Hornet's fans:

Batum + Incentives for Pau Gasol ($16M this year, only $6M guaranteed next year) +filler

what is Charlotte willing to put on the table in incentives to get out from Batum's contract?

It's funny we give Kemba all the excuses for playing with bad players when we lose every 4th qtr crunch time game but Lamb doesn't get any benefit of the doubt for basically playing with g Leaguers and rookies all year

I mean, what are your expectations for lamb if he were to get 32 minutes a game and a starting role?

And my comments really aren't about Lambs specifically as they are about avoiding situations similar to what we just got ourselves into with our last round of contracts handed out. It's not lands fault that we wasted so much of our cap space on Marvin & mkg, but we did and I find a highly unlikely that we can dump those contracts without taking back something equally bad in return.

I guess I just feel fairly confident that we could replace lamb and Frank's contributions with someone on a deal cheaper than what they will soon be making on their next contracts. And I guess I feel fairly confident that neither lamb or Frank are going to blow up into All-Star level players and the next three years.

I like Lamb and I think he can be a solid contributor, not an allstar, but very solid. I know it isn't always the best gauge, but if you look at his per 36 last year, he played really well. He also has shown improvements each year, so I'm wanting to see how he plays this year.

As for Frank, I cannot stand watching him play basketball. Sure I like bigs who can hit from deep, but I can't stand to see a big who plays so soft and with no aggressiveness at all. He literally gets bullied by even the smaller guards. He is scared to go up strong against small guards, and is completely scared taking it up against other bigs. Maybe he gets better under a new coach, but I dont see it.
