Re: Welcome To The Bobcats: Cody Zeller
zeller is going to get himself killed if he doesnt learn how to land on his back a little softer. perhaps he can put some padding in the back of his jersey, kinda like when crash had shoulderpads. or maybe he can wear a helmet.

Yeah I definitely think he needs to sign a deal with Underarmour.

Re: Welcome To The Bobcats: Cody Zeller
I think after a very slow start Cody is starting to turn around.
I love his effort and it's starting to pay dividends.
His line against Milwaukee is very much like a rich man's McBob.
Even if he's only ever a backup he can give us great minutes and contribute to winning ball games.
He's going to be a mix of McBob and Nick Collison imo.

That was the best/worst commercial I've ever seen. And that includes HEAD ON APPLY DIRECTLY TO THE FOREHEAD HEAD ON APPLY DIRECTLY TO THE FOREHEAD HEAD ON APPLY DIRECTLY TO THE FOREHEAD

The best part with that one is that it always seemed to come on back-to-back, so you'd get a minute straight of that ****

I don't see him being a consistent point forward type of player. Surely, he can pass but he's a finisher not a facilitator.

Re: Welcome To The Bobcats: Cody Zeller
Quick sanity check. There were some quick-trigger comparisons between ZRex and Aldridge after summer league which may have inflated expectations, but a lot of the Zeller bashing on this board seems shortsighted and impatient. Assuming Zeller continues to make even modest strides this season and accounting for the MPG differential below, his end of year rookie numbers may look almost identical to Aldridge's if not better. They both came into the league at 21 years old, LMA drafted #2, ZRex #4.
Zeller over the last 10 (in 17 mpg:)
FG: 50% REB: 4.5 AST: 1.5 BLK: 0.7 PTS: 6.8 - shooting 72% from the stripe for the season.
Aldridge's rookie year stats (in 22 mpg):
FG: 50% FT: 72% REB: 5.0 AST: 0.4 BLK: 1.2 PTS: 9.0
Basically, I'm not sure what most of the bashers are bashing unless they think he should somehow be putting up 14/10 in 17 mpg. For rookie #'s he's tracking fairly well. I've watched probably 90% of the games (LP) this year and am aware of the non-statistical criticisms - he spends too much time on the floor, he gets his shot blocked quite a bit, has some defensive lapses, etc., but I think we all agree that he seems to be improving from week to week. This is a good thing. As soon as he stops improving, I'll be the first to throw him under the bus, but for now a lot of the criticism about what he is and speculation regarding what he will become seems pretty baseless.

Re: Welcome To The Bobcats: Cody Zeller
Let me add that the level of patience that has been shown for Biz is excessive, versus the level of impatience shown for Zeller. Somehow we're supposed to wait years on a lottery pick because he is "raw", but expect another young lottery pick to be instant success because he played some college ball.
Zeller will never be a Kevin Love dynamo; he wasn't born with those gifts. He can become a better offensive threat in time with an improved NBA IQ and experience. He is getting better during his rookie season, which doesn't happen often in this league. Improving during the season means he is learning and applying his experiences during a hectic time that isn't condusive to teaching (from the coaches). This shows his capacity for growth (BBIQ) is significant. His athleticism brings an upside potential to his game. I do think he will take over the starting spot, but probably not this season. His minutes will increase, and he may eventually be closing some games, but I think coach will wisely choose not to put the pressure of starting on him this season. Zeller will be even better in his 2nd year, and ready to take a starters role. McBob is an ideal as a reserve 4.

I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

I for one think it's great that we have an opportunity to be patient with one of our draft picks and develop him slowly, the way good teams do.

Re: Welcome To The Bobcats: Cody Zeller
How quickly we forget?
Bismack Biyombo took as much criticism during his rookie & 2nd season as Cody Zeller, if not more. There were partitions on the board to denounce Biyombo down to the D-League both seasons. I have yet to see Zeller face that type of ridicule
I sure hope many don't think Zeller has shown enough to be praised either. Lately though, he's been good enough to void unsound cynicism & generate more optimism. However, he hasn't shown any glimpses of stardom, just serviceability

NBA.com's Rookie Ladder
7. Cody Zeller : CHARLOTTE BOBCATS
Zeller had one of the best games of his young career Monday. Zeller scored a career-high 12 points (he'd scored 10 points twice before), grabbed seven rebounds and blocked a pair of shots in 22 big minutes to help Charlotte beat Milwaukee 111-110 in OT. For a more intimate look at Zeller, check out his recent diary on SI.com in which he talks about coming off the bench, filming commercials, talking with his brothers (they don't talk hoops) and much more. Good stuff. -- Dec. 26

*NOTE: Cody Zeller has moved up to #11 on David Thorpe's Rookie Rankings
