Zeller and 9 for a free agent (even if restricted)? No.

They'd want a liquid asset for a Love package - probably pick 9 - and a player asset like Zeller. Then we'd have MKG and Parsons at the 3 and no MKG is not going to play SG.

Ill paypal you a 5 dollar bill if you can go 10 post without mentioning MKG ;)

Screw giving up that. Just try to sign the RFA outright. If they match good for them, if not oh well.

Second rounders and undrafted players are only restricted if their first contact ends within three years of their draft class. If they get a fourth year, they are unrestricted the following offseason. It's the reason Stephenson is unrestricted while the first round picks from his class are restricted.

So Houston's dilemma was:

Make Parsons a restricted FA this offseason and match any other offers, full knowing it'll be much more than he would've made under his fourth year option - or - accept the option, keep him cheap for a year, but allow him to be unrestricted next offseason.

Parsons would be a good fit here. He needs a coach who will make him put forth effort on defense. I think he is a bit overrated. But I wouldn't mind him on our roster.

I think it's because he'd be more valuable in a sign-and-trade while they are trying to sign-and-trade for Melo themselves. Teams would've used the only 1 year rental left on his contract excuse for Parsons in trade negotiations and now they can't. It's as simple as either we're going to trade Parsons for Melo/Love or we're going sign him to a extension for Houston.

If we want Parsons, best case scenario for us would be Melo to Houston then us signing Parsons and them not being able to match.

You're right to an extent. Houston is going to use him as a sign and trade absolutely. If they were going to sign him to an extension they would just exercise his option and wait until next season. Now that Parsons is technically on the market teams are going after him.

I think teams will be very hesitant to extend a offer sheet to Parsons knowing Houston will likely match it all the while tying up their cap space for weeks.

I'd start them together. I think it would work. They both are decent ball handlers. Parsons is better than Hendo there at least.

MKG I like as a starter to kinda set the tone defensively. Then let his backup be more of a scorer who can lead the 2nd unit off the bench. That is ideal, IMO.

I'm not either. He's overrated on offense and terrible on defense (though that may be more McHale than anything). 12 million for him is insane. But his skill set does fit what we need on the wing so I wouldn't oppose at least looking into signing him. He's a good player, but nothing special.

But, unfortunately, whoever signs Parsons is gonna give him a giant offer so Houston can't match. And if I had to guess, they'll regret it 2 years from now.

Parson's contract expires next year, but the team had the option to either exercise the 964k this year and risk losing him as a 2015 UFA, or letting him become a RFA this year. His cap hold is still very tiny, so there's a decent chance Houston has a core four of Howard, Parsons, James, and Melo heading into next season. They can simply wait to sign Parsons to a $10M/yr contract until after they use all but $1M of their cap space on Melo. Either way, I hope we go after him, he'd be a fantastic Swiss army knife talent off the bench or starting.

Yep. For some reason people overrate him and believe that he is a good defender. He's not bad by any means, but rather sort of average on defense if you take the time and watch his work on that end closely. Maybe it's playing alongside Harden that has some people thinking he's better than he actually is.

if they decline this year he is a RFA if they wait until next year he is an UFA

is strategy, they are going to sign him long term this summer

Some believe the Rockets and Parsons already have a deal in place that he resigns with them so he can get his money early.

Parsons @ 10 million a year or Stauskas on a rookie deal at a third of that?

Stauskas every time, Parsons value is in his low salary contract. Once that is gone his value plummets.
