That's not very enlightening. :(

The only thing you have explained is that when Larry rips the players it is bad but when Silas does it, it is good. And compared to Larry, what Silas is doing is worse because he's questioning a player's toughness. Larry on the other hand would mainly whine about what the team isn't doing right. Silas constantly calls out individual players. And he ain't smiling during his post game chats with the media. :noway:

It is not always what you say. Sometimes it is how you say it. The players felt that Brown was a boss. They consider Silas a leader. You might be surprised how much criticism a person will take if they feel like the critic really cares and has their best interest at heart. Larry was not very effective in that regard. Silas is a master.

Aren't you the guy who's running around telling everyone DJ is an elite point guard? :-?

And now you're telling me Larry's 30 plus years of coaching men and leading them to great things on the basketball court is now irrelevant because, angry Stephen Jackson and angry Nazr Muhamad didn't like the way he spoke to them?

I see no reason why Mullens can't become better then Brook Lopez

He's already rebounding better than Lopez.

Thank god we traded for him, he has been my only highlight this year.

Completely agree. Mullens is the best thing to happen to this team this year. Kemba has moments but I fear his game is best suited off the bench (even after he gets experience). Bismack is a major reach at #7, and may never contribute more than blocks and a few rebounds. Mullens was heralded as a HS player, left college way too soon, and is demonstrating that, with playing time, he can be a quality player. Frankly he could play the 4 in a modified "Dirk" mode, but I do think he holds promise at the 5.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Interesting comparison.

I was never really a fan of Lopez at Standford and he's pretty much turned out how I said he would.

I will say that I like Mully more though. He's more athletic and goes after it a little more (at least, he has these past three games).

They both suffer from the same things though - a "I have it I must shoot it" mentality and poor passing (although Mully made two REALLY nice passes last night - so there is some promise there!)

So you are suggesting that Mullens can't be as good or effective as Lopez?

I'm a huge Mullens fan and honestly think if given the minutes and shots he could post similar numbers as Lopez. Brook is the better center right now though.

There are simillarities: They are both offensive centers who are good, but not elite rebounders. They both love to score the ball and both do so efficiently. Both are adequate defensively but not great. I would give Lopez the slight edge as being the better post defender due to his strength. Lopez is presently the better back to the basket post scorer [one of the top 5 in the league in fact] although BJ has shown some promise in that area as well. Byron has a better jump shot.

Right now, considering the make up of our roster, Mullens should really be a focal point of our offense (i.e. we make a concerted effort to feed him in the post every time down the floor). As Slam mentioned, I think he's gotten a bad rap for his alleged poor passing. He had a couple really nice assists and had one other beautiful pass to DJW who ruined what would have been another assist by blowing a layup.

Nobody is going to confuse him for Sabonis with his post passing but he will look to a teammate if they're wide open. If they arent open and he's got the ball in reasonable position, he's taking the shot. And I'm fine with that. Being a "black hole" is a good thing if you're doing so efficiently (50% or >). After he scores a few times on the opposition or draws fouls, they will start to double him which will open things up for everyone else.

If Silas would just start him and give him 36 min per game from here on out, I think Mullens runs away with the MIP award.

The next question would be: Who, on the current Bobcats roster, is the best PF to play next to him for those 36mpg?

Boris?
Tyrus?
DJW?
Biz?
Other?

Hollinger has an "All Surprise Team" article on Insider today. Natch, he includes Mullens:

"Byron Mullens: The most shocking moment of the season for me came in the Charlotte-Cleveland game, when Mullens scored on four straight midpost isolations -- the last two coming against Cavs defensive stalwart Anderson Varejao. Yeah, this dude can score. The 7-footer has shown a sweet stroke, shooting 49.5 percent from the floor and making 20 of his 21 free throw attempts; he's also scoring in bunches for the otherwise points-starved Bobcats, pumping in 22.8 points per 40 minutes. His game still looks a bit one-dimensional, but he's only 22 and has virtually no NBA experience. It seems obvious that the Bobcats need to get him more playing time as the season goes on, and it wouldn't shock me at all if he's starting by midseason."

But, guess who also shows up? DJW!

"D.J. White: His per-minute stats always had indicated he would be an effective player if he played. Now that he's paying, that's bearing out. His 15.9 points and 9.2 boards per 40 minutes are almost exactly what he did in limited minutes last season, and his shooting percentages have held solid, too. He's not an elite athlete and doesn't have much upside to improve upon beyond this point, but he's a smart, low-mistake role player who can't be left open. Every team in the league could use a guy like him."

Hollinger points out that 4 of 12 on the list, Mullens, DJW, James Harden & Ian Mahinmi were all drafted by Sam Presti. Maybe we should continue to target OKC in our trades?

I know we can't put the whole Insider article up but can someone just post the list of guys? I'd be interested to see the other names on his list.
