2014 NBA Draft Charlotte Pick Possibilities

Post#121 » by Joest2003 » Sat Jan 4, 2014 7:52 pm

I was just wondering if anybody can try to simplify the Bobcats upcoming draft picks for me. I heard we possibly could get a few lottery picks but what exactly would have to happen?

If I remember right as long as the pistons aren't within the top 8 picks then we get their pick and the blazers aren't within the top 12 picks then we get theirs

Looking good so far then. Hopefully the pistons get something around 10th pick that would be so clutch in this draft coming up.

http://www.tankathon.com/

you can keep track of our picks here

our pick - top 10 protected (owed to chicago)
detroit pick - top 8 protected (owed to charlotte)
portland pick - top 12 protected (owed to charlotte)

we will almost certainly get the detroit and portland picks this year. the biggest questions are 1) will our pick go to chicago 2) can portland lose enough games to make their pick valuable.

Detroit would need to just barely miss the playoffs for that to happen. The West almost definitely will hold the 4 best non-playoff teams, leaving the Eastern Conference 9th seed with the 10th pick.

The way it is looking right now, we will get the Detroit and Portland picks, but they won't be that valuable. If I had to guess I would say 13 & 25. The gray area remains in the pick we owe Chicago. I would prefer we surrender the pick this year because if I'm not mistaken the pick is only top 1 protected next year.

I honestly think we end up with 6 (ours), 13 (DET) and about 26 (PDX)

In my opinion the true value of this draft is the depth of quality, we'll most likely get a player at #13 who would have went top 5 last draft.

It's a damn good platform to build on.

There are a million different mocks and predictions around the internet, but I keep up with NBADraft.net the most. They have us finishing as the 19th worst team, which awards our pick to Chicago. I believe they do the picks off of current standings and not where they actually think the teams will finish though. There is value all over the board though, so getting the DET and POR picks should do us well

I don't see the Detroit pick falling in that 10-14 range. Much like us, Detroit will either make the playoffs or have a top ten pick (potentially conveyed to us). The east is so bad that the second you fall from the 8th spot you end up with the ninth pick.

We need a couple teams to bump us and them in order to...

(A) Keep our pick.
(B) Maximize their pick.

Hopefully PDX falls back down to earth a bit but I don't see that pick being better than 24 or so.

nbadraft.net has went way down the past couple years, in my opinion.

I usually go to DraftExpress.com to look at the mock draft, but mainly for the scouting videos and articles about each player

At our current rate, it won't matter who else wins, our losing is going to ensure our pick

yea us losing will help but we need one of the non playoff east teams to start winning to push us out of the playoffs

We're as far from the third seed as we are the second pick (4 games). I admit I had one foot on the playoffs wagon but now I'm completely back on the keep-our-pick wagon. Picking 8, 16, and 24 sounds much better than picking 16, 24, and a sweep at the hands of the Heat.

That would be insane. If we ended up with those picks, we could possibly grab Dante Exum/Zach LaVine/Marcus Smart, Doug McDermott/Gary Harris/James Young, and Adreian Payne/Kyle Anderson/P.J. Hairston/Vasilje Micic.

Talk about an injection of talent.

Which is why I don't think we should rush and necessarily try to fill the gaps at the deadline.

The draft could do that for us.

we need to be trading players like Sess and Gerald to make some more gaps lol

Very true!

What I meant was trading the PDX or Detroit picks for someone like Garcia etc or trading MKG etc.

Very shortsighted but exactly what I could see Cho and co doing.
