Charlotte trades/Utah receives: Marvin Williams (or Cody Zeller?)

Charlotte doesn't just move Batum for expirings, they move him for an expiring contract and a contract that is affordable but also non-guaranteed for this coming season, plus a recent first round Utah seems to like. This means that if they so chose they could not Sefelosha and immediately reduce their payroll by $13 million after the first part of the trade. Batum is still good, but horrifically overpaid. The second trade then moves Marvin Williams for completely unguarenteed contracts, opening up more cap space (so about $26 million more than they would have otherwise).

Admittedly I don't know that this is actually worth it for either team, but it seems like the salary savings for Charlotte should at least make thinking about moving on from a lottery pick fairly enticing.

Trade 2 doesn't seem like something Utah would be interested in. I just don't see a reason for them to go for Marvin's contract. With Trade 1, I don't think Charlotte should give up # 10 or 11 just to shed some of Batum's salary. The deal is more realistic if Utah includes their first this year

I can see Utah’s interest in Marv as his shooting and mobility would fit well next to Gobert. Previous history with them was good as well, that contract is the stumbling point

My thought was you wouldn't move the pick just to get rid of Batum, but Charlotte would at least have to think about it if they also got rid of Marvin so it's actually a two part deal. I think we could probably move up to 14 just by taking Farieds contract and swapping our pick with Denver (b/c they can cut all the players we send and immediately reduce their payroll by 13 million and they don't need a power forward and most of the wing prospects will be picked in the 20s) so I'd rather do that than take Batum.

This team must add a star if they want to keep Kemba. Dwight was the wrong star.

Good article that contemplates 4 different trade destinations for Walker that the FO may be inclined to explore during the offseason (Knicks, Suns, Cavs, Bucks).
Variations of a couple of these packages have already been proposed and discussed on this board.

Of the deals outlined, I prefer the one with the Bucks for Jabari and future picks

I like Jabari, but feel like a trade with the Bucks - Kemba or not - seems unlikely due to the cap positions of both teams.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

Only the Suns offer would interest me. They have a good package of young talent that could speed up our rebuild and I think it'd allow us to compete once the Batum contract falls off the book. In my view, tanking for at least next season is a necessity. Then, depending on how well Batum is performing, either tank again in 2019 or look to add a free agent with the money we have once Dwight is off the books.

I think there’s a way we could trade for Jabari and keep Kemba but a lot of that will hinge on how much they like the Wisconsin hero Frank packaged with anything else but Kemba and the 1st rounder.

Nobody is going to offer Jabari the kind of money he want until he can prove that he can be durable for a full season so he’ll likely end up playing on the tender next season becoming a UFA in 2019 summer. By then hopefully our new GM would have found a way to trade Batum, Marv, and/or MKG for a expiring. I think packaging our 2019 1st rounder mildly protected would be smart personally.

I think it depends on the deals for me. Other than trading Monk and Walker to NY which is the dumbest suggestion in the article The other three have potential depending on return and what is going out. I like the Cavs piece if we can take back Clarkson and Hill with the pick for Walker and Batum ideally but I would settle for Howard. I would demand Brogdon from the Bucks to even get a conversation started and I don't like the Phoenix ideas because those young guys are not on the right length deals if Batum isn't going out.

Key here is you can't trade Monk if you move Kemba because you need to see what your young guys can develop into and stock rookie deal talent.

Frank is approaching 39% on his threes. I'd say his trade value has risen since the deadline. I don't think they shopped him but a treadmill team must be open to change. They could keep him and hope he has a breakout year but if something compelling comes along, they should be open for business on just about anybody.

Frank's play over the last 25 games (not including today since bbref doesn't have that yet and I don't care to total it all up myself) is unsustainable. He's shooting 50.6% from three on 3.1 attempts a game in 22.7mpg.

It's been great to see him actually hitting his threes. Way better than his first 49 games of the season where he was shooting a paltry 33.1% on 3.5 attempts in the same minutes.

The switch was flipped the same week Zeller got back and JOB got benched and traded.

If Mirotic could go from a piñata with a broken jaw into a trade for a 1st rounder and some solid veteran depth based on about 20 games of playing unsustainable basketball then I’m sure we could flip Frank for something.

I kind of want to keep Frank. I like that he can play both front court positions depending on the situation and I feel like a better coach who uses him more at center (we really need to trade Howard imo), where he often actually has an agility advantage, will get more out of him than we've currently seen. Obviously you have to trade him if someone offers the right deal, but he is pretty low on my priority list of guys I'd want to trade.

Also, he has the best hair of anyone in the regular rotation. I know at least MasterIchiro also appreciates this.

I think if you plan to rebuild and move Kemba then Frank needs to go to if you can get anything of decent value for him. The amount of his rookie deal left wouldn't fit a rebuild and if you can capitalize on the way he has finished up this season you should. Now if you are trying to continue to compete for the playoffs and keep Kemba then I agree keeping him is likely the best option.

If Lebron leaves Cleveland and they decide to tank, would Howard + Marv + 2019 1st + two 2nds be enough value to return Love + Clarkson? They get a huge expiring and three picks (one 1st) and they could probably move Marv for another 2nd round pick.

We get another all-star to pair with Kemba and two good scorers. We take on future salary, but actually save a couple million next season. The main question for me is whether or not it is worth it to give up our 2018 1st. I'd really like to get one more fairly high draft pick on the team before going all in with Kemba/Love. Would giving up two future 1sts in the 15-25 range be worse than the 11/12th pick in the next draft?

Kemba/Monk
Lamb/Clarkson
MKG/Batum
Love/Frank
Cody/Willy

I think the Cavs can compete without Lebron if they keep Love, Hood and Clarkson. Add Batum to that squad and they're still a playoff team. Hint hint wink wink. So instead of vulturing their carcass let's give them a carcass.

How about Batum for George Hill?

Cavs lineup

Clarkson - PG
Hood - SG
Batum - SF
Love - PF
Thompson - C

+ Nets pick

Hornets lineup

Kemba/Hill - PG
Lamb/Monk - SG
Bacon/MKG - SF
Kaminsky/Marvin - PF
Zeller/Dwight/Hernangomez

+ Pick 11

Then Dwight + Hill have expiring contracts when Kemba is to be resigned.

I was hoping for that trade from the Kings. I wonder if Cho even made the offer considering that they traded Hill for less interesting pieces than Batum. We hang onto these hindering role players for much too long.

Jabari Parker looked good tonight.

I think the smart move for the next GM would be to find a way to trade one of or a combination of Batum, Dwight, Marv, and maybe even MKG or Cody. I would even trade our lottery pick this year for Jabari but the smart thing is to find a way for more cap flexibility in 2019.

Bucks need a center, badly. A trade centered around Howard and Parker makes sense for both teams.

apparently Parker turned down a $54 three year deal with Milwaukee. So he's hoping for 20 mill a year I guess.

Could they sign n trade for Dwight?

I would be happy to include Delly if they regret that deal, for MKG?
They might want Lamb who would probably fit their well.
