Being groomed to take over once TP retires

Or he will start next year if Kemba leaves

It's About Graham Time: The Devonte Graham Thread

(in reference to our 2nd round pick drought, finally having a good backup PG, finally drafting a rook who looks solid right away, take your pick. Bonus: If Kemba leaves it's prophetic)

great tweet about Devonte's passing. It really is a treat to watch and makes Biyombo less of a liability on offense.

Devonte is going to be a great pro. PG is the toughest position to transition from college to pro and he's been very solid. Given a bit of time I think he's a starting-caliber player or very high-end backup.

Devonte is the number one reason I have hope that things might be different under Mitch. If he can find guys like that for us late in the draft with some consistency we'll be in great shape.

unfortunately, that list/stat seems to be very hit or miss on predicting future success - but still very impressive.

I really hope Graham takes over backup pg duties next season. Tony is a great player, but just doesn't mesh well with the direction of this team. I suppose we could keep him around for the Paris game as a show of good faith to the International community but Graham is the future.

I expect that if Kemba stays Graham and Parker will split the backup duties throughout the year. We're seeing that already in the latter half of this season with Parker taking more rest days and Graham getting extra run, I think the only difference next year is that will be the case from game one.

If Kemba leaves I'd go ahead and just install Graham as the starter with Parker as the backup plus a 3rd stringer who will be expected to play whenever Parker takes rest days.

Parker (and Batum) will both start in the Paris game though, no doubt about it. I wasn't 100% sure that Parker would be back for 2020, especially if we're rebuilding post-Kemba, but now that we have the game in France I think it's a lock. He'll probably be enticed enough by a homecoming game to stick with a potentially crappy young team and our front office will likely realize that even at his $5m salary the potential revenue from French fans buying merchandise at that game (and hopefully converting to longtime Hornet fans) makes it worth keeping him even if he's totally washed by then.

Doesn't tony have a team option? wouldn't be surprising if we decline if he does.

How would we feel going into next season with Devonte as our stating PG?

big fan of Graham as a backup but as a PG1 he's a tank commander, imo; don't think he's big or strong enough to play lead guard in this league

Graham would struggle as a starter.

I'm not against the idea as a 1 year stopgap.

I refuse to believe Kemba will not resign.

That said, if DG was given starting duties, I'm okay with it. He's got to work on his defense, but the offense he brings is enough if there are other shooters on the court. He's more of a floor general than a profilic scorer.

I like Graham but unless he improves a lot, he'll be the worst starting PG in the NBA unless Terry Rozier finds himself starting somewhere (yuck).

Graham is a career backup, a good one, but I'd rather bring in a stopgap to let him continue in that role.
