LofJ wrote:Oubre gives us a 5th wing. I wonder if we'll ever see this lineup:
LaMelo/Hayward/Oubre/Bridges/Washington?
When the Suns benched Saric (who was playing the 4) and moved Oubre to the 4 and had a Rubio/Booker/Bridges/Oubre/Ayton lineup they had an insane net rating. I think over 25. It was among the best in the league.
I think he will be a fan favorite with his dunks and kisses to the crowd.
Between him and Bridges you will have some insane dunks this coming year.
With that team you need to run run run.
His biggest fault is trying to do too much on his own sometimes. If he iso's too much it hurts and his court vision/passing is lacking. He occasionally can get tunnel vision and try to drive in to dunk/score against multiple defenders. If he just plays within an offense and allows others to do the playmaking and be a finisher, he will be solid.
I think he's actually a better fit with LaMelo than Curry. One of the few you can say that about. He was better with Rubio than with Curry.

Re: Little Swaggy: The Kelly Oubre Jr Thread
Interestingly, Swaggy has never had a positive BPM across a season during his entire career and this year's mark thus far is second only to his rookie season in regard to 'yikes'.

He's a bench volume scorer, he doesn't have any other skills that lead to wins. Surprised it's been that bad though.

Re: Little Swaggy: The Kelly Oubre Jr Thread
It was a panic signing that looks worse now. He just doesn't do anything that I care about. Caleb would have given us just as much for fraction the cost, if we felt the need for another active body on the wing. I'd be fine with Jalen absorbing those mins as well. Not to mention bouk being glued to bench.
We were always **** if Gordon goes down. Oubre ain't fixing that.
I'm beating dead horse but I just can't get over how badly we handled this ofdseason.

Re: Little Swaggy: The Kelly Oubre Jr Thread
Zach Lowe on Oubre: Swaggier Than Expected:
Is it time to start talking up Oubre as one of Tyler Herro's competitors for Sixth Man of the Year? Oubre is averaging 16.7 points on a career-best 46% shooting -- 38.5% on 3s, 56% on 2s. He has averaged 25 points over Charlotte's past eight games, including 85 combined over the past three in which the Hornets played with half a roster.
Oubre rounds out Charlotte's center-less lineups; the Hornets have blitzed opponents by eight points per 100 possessions when Oubre plays without any traditional bigs, per NBA.com. That balloons to 11 points when LaMelo Ball is also on the floor. (P.S. Yes, expect Charlotte to inquire about Indiana's big men -- specifically Myles Turner.)
Oubre didn't fit in Golden State, but he has been a boon in Charlotte -- another smart move for the Mitch Kupchak regime.

That stat about Oubre on the floor with Melo but without a traditional big is super interesting.

This is so interesting after just reading about how much he sucks.

Re: Little Swaggy: The Kelly Oubre Jr Thread
Oubre's emergence has been a total shocker to me. He was an advanced stats disaster coming in that struggled to hit the 3.

I am also very pleasantly surprised.
The current situation where half our team is out oddly favors him. All he wants to do is jack up shots and at this point we really need a guy who normally doesn't shoot 15+ attempts to hoist them up like no tomorrow. When JB asked guys to step up and take a bigger offensive role I just imagine Oubre in the locker room going

Re: Little Swaggy: The Kelly Oubre Jr Thread
Kelly Oubre, most likely to snag one-handed rebounds (Zach Lowe):
One-handed rebounds are cool, and you know it
Basketball is entertainment. There is room for indulgent style, even if it invites risk that might be intolerable late in a playoff game. Case in point: the one-handed rebound, basketball's version of Rickey Henderson's "snatch catch."
Kelly Oubre Jr. is congenitally unable to do any good basketball thing without adding some flair. He is a WWE heel on the hardwood -- blowing kisses after 3s, flexing, sneering smack talk, doing pushups whenever someone knocks him down. Oubre might be our leading candidate to attempt a one-handed rebound in the last minute of Game 7 of the Finals

Re: Little Swaggy: The Kelly Oubre Jr Thread
mentioned it a while ago on another thread, but how great is it having Oubre as our FIFTH scorer? I have to imagine that at 16.4ppg, he's got to be one of the highest scoring 5th options in NBA history, if not the highest.
investigate Adam Silver

Re: Little Swaggy: The Kelly Oubre Jr Thread
he's been pretty fantastic in a vacuum. i know some folks (myself included) have been pretty critical of him, from signing him in the first place and letting guys like Graham and Monk go all the way to his on court antics.
But he has stepped up every time he was asked to and is exactly what we were hoping Monk could've been.
He is the anti-Cody Martin and for some reason I love it

I feel like it kind of helps some of the other guys be loose to have someone with a don’t give a **** about misses mentality when jacking up shots. This team doesn’t win when we don’t hit 3s. Might as well let them fly.

"You miss 100% of the shots you don't take."- Kobe Bryant
"You should take 100% of the shots." Kelly Oubre

Re: Little Swaggy: The Kelly Oubre Jr Thread
Oubre is a flawed player, but then again most bench players in the NBA are. He gives us shooting, scoring, size and athleticism and can be a top 2 offensive player on the floor at any given time. Martin and McDaniels are great role players, but if you are counting on them to carry offensive load at any given time the team is going to sputter.
