People automatically think anyone who plays for Charlotte sucks. We're basically the Lions of the NBA, before they became decent the past couple years.

Think 1999-2018 Cleveland Browns.

This is a good deal and one that needed to be made, so of course it'll get lambasted in the media. They don't know anything about this team. If Miami signed Cody Zeller to that deal, they'd say it was ingenious because it was Miami.

Just look at the narratives around Haliburton, Edwards, and Bane signing the same contract.

Out of curiosity, can either of you point to an example of a media member criticizing the extension?

Chris Broussard on FOX Sports Radio, apparently.

I’m so here for Ben arguing with me no matter what I say.

Ben: The Hornets played well
Me: The Hornets did play well
Ben: on second thought the Hornets did not play well

I asked for an example and you gave one.

Not sure what this commentary is but thanks for the example

That 15% trade kicker works both ways you know. If we ever did decide we wanted to move on from lamelo and cash in and get as much back as possible, it makes it more difficult trade him. Just sayin'..

Morant and Young in general are super overrated, Haliburton is getting there as well. Brunson underrated.

Tier 1 (Clear Franchise, HOF, MVP level guys)
Luka
Steph

Tier 2 (Great players, great stats, but can't quite lead you to titles)
SGA
Lillard

Tier 3 (All-NBA adjacent, Best player on a good team level, need more help)
Morant
Murray
Young (I don't think he's this good)

Tier 4 (Old dudes, still good, but better as supporting cast)
Harden, Kyrie, Jrue

Tier 5 (young, high talent, unproven, mostly-interchangeable depending on team makeup)
Fox, Brunson, Ball, Haliburton, Garland

I like how everyone loves Haliburton like he's this amazing winner and LaMelo is a career loser yet he couldn't lead the Pacers to anything better than 35-47 last year in a mediocre Eastern Conference and he has a career worse winning percentage than LaMelo who led a team of Miles Bridges and bums to 43-39 just two years ago, and the Kings immediately got way better after trading him

Bill Simmons and The Ringer said this recently too - that LaMelo hasn't won anything and doesn't deserve the contract, but praised the Haliburton contact

It's the belief that anyone on Charlotte is automatically a bum.

There was a GB thread a couple months back about Haliburton & Melo. I basically said if their teams were reversed, Melo would be amazing and Haliburton a loser.

Melo is an easy guy to hate with his flashy and flamboyant personality. He's always going to have a ton of detractors simply for that.

Being a Hornet just adds to the public dissing.

Remember the narrative shift on Kemba when he left? That's Melo but even worse. He's going to have to win big here or move to a big market before he gets any public respect

That is actually the thing that makes lists like this a joke to me. How could you sit there and proclaim Haliburton is up that high but then put LaMelo at the very bottom or off the list all together? If you want to make the winning % or record argument as the tie breaker, then it goes to LaMelo so far.

Haliburton individual efficiency is nuts. On paper he looks to be better than Melo, but I think Melo is better if you were watching them play head to head in a playoff series.

Yeah he's getting **** on in the GB again.

If he was a Laker they'd say he's the next magic Johnson.

Yeah that thread is cringe worthy.

"Yeah Hali was sooo much better than Ball last year, he's super overrated" *didn't notice or realise LaMelo was injured almost all last season.

"I never watch Hornets games because Hornets, but LaMelo Ball sucks and is super overrated. He only shot 41% from the field last year!"
