Wow that is a deep and detailed breakdown on Tre’s game, with tons of video!
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Mann isn’t limited to self-creation on his drives either. He showed a lot of promise as a drive-and-spray guy, collapsing the defense and kicking out to his shooters for open looks or closeout attack chances.

This is precisely why he fits perfectly sandwiched between 2 of the game's best long range snipers in LaMelo Ball & Brandon Miller.

This trio is young and can really develop spectacular chemistry as a closing unit.

Only through 3 games but Tre Mann is the second leading scorer on the team (18) behind LaMelo (31).

Miller is obviously a better scorer but even if his return bumps Mann to option 3, Tre will earn a hefty pay raise.

I believe Lee will want to keep Mann in the closing lineup even when Miller and Green return.

Mann won't finish the season ahead of Bridges, who has currently scored exactly two total points less than him and it feels like he's sleepwalking.

Mann is, at best, our 4th scorer

Tre Mann is second in the NBA in bench points with 55 points, just two shy of Buddy Hield.

He really does look like another 3 option right now behind LaMelo & Miller. But Miles will get better. Mann still has major upside.

odd quote since cody probably was more of the pg tonight
but as i said in other thread - cody, mann, curry gives 2nd unit enough handlers to keep micic out of rotation.

+1. Trouble for the FO is every team's gonna want a catch-and-shoot guy who can get his own shot when he has to.

What's an odd quote, mine or Mann's?

"That second unit, we kind of allowed that run to start, and we've got to be better. I take responsibility for that because I'm the point guard of the second unit."

We do not need to shop for a PG2.

Most of the chatter revolves around his campaign for 6th Man award.

But I believe his core value longterm is closing games for us. Imagine trying to guard Mann in isolation while LaMelo & Miller are commanding coverage/attention on the 3-pt line.

Because Mann is restricted, Hornets can choose to run that trio closing many, many more games to come. The three talents are really young.

Mann is quickly becoming a major weapon for this team. He's playing like a top scoring option showing no signs of moving in the opposite direction.

If your team is running most of its offense through LaMelo, Miller, Mann, no reason for that offense to be anything other than top 10 once they seal some chemistry together.

I think back to Damian Lillard saying Tre Mann reminds him of Anthony Edwards just before Ant learned to dominate games. And to D. Curry who after the trade and before watching him play for Charlotte, said Tre Mann is a "baller". It was Seth who was raving about him in preseason.

So now Micic is a dead contract and we have an internal solution at PG2 who's also dualing as a 6th Mann and top scoring option on a team built to compete.

I've been pulling for Lee to chop Micic and run Mann at PG2. It didn't take coach long at all so I'm feeling good about his awareness.

Imagine Clifford with Micic.

That's a damn good point Ichiro about Clifford likely playing Micic as our backup PG until the decision was taken out of his hands. He never would have sidelined him in favor of Mann. If you think he would have you obviously weren't around much for the Clifford years. Stubborn to the point of idiocy was his m.o.

Yeah it would have taken Clifford 50 games minimum to bench Micic.

The best part is that Lee sets a precedent here 4 games in that he will not hesitate to make adjustments even if it disrupts the pecking order.

We don't owe Micic any reward.

The fact Lee made an adjustment so quickly gives us fortune and promise for the games to come and adjustments to be made.

No time to waste.

Right, but micic wasn't a problem at all last year at backup point guard. He actually played very well.

Not sure why this has to be an either or situation

Coaching staff said that mann had an incredible summer and it shows

Conversely, something is going on with micic, which is not a reflection of how he played last year for us.

Never understand the constant need to tear one player down to build another up.

Manns best role it's still playing off ball in a traditional combo combo style.

does point guard even mean anything, if anything calling Tre Mann the PG of the second unit is just an title from the staff anointing his role as the super 6th man on this team

we're running into a buzz saw tomorrow and saturday against a team whos "point guards" average like 5 apg combined. the same system our coach is coming from

It's not either/or. There's one side.

Lee arrived at the (correct) conclusion that running a secondary playmaker as a primary playmaker with the second unit (in this case) will result in winning basketball, because Mann playing that role is an upgrade over Micic playing his even though Micic is specialized as a floor general.

You lose your job when someone less specialized outproduces you.
