As soon as we draft Beal, stun is going to call him the next Ray Allen

If we draft MKG, we're going to have the future Scottie Pippen on the team

Drummond? Next Shaq!

As a GM do you draft for need or best player available?
Chad Ford (1:13 PM)

Both. You always draft best player ... but most teams draft in tiers. I'll write an article about this next week ... but for example. Anthony Davis is in Tier 1. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Bradley Beal, Thomas Robinson, Andre Drummond and Harrison Barnes all in Tier 2. Within your tier, you draft for need. But you'd never reach outside your tier to get, for example, a Tier 3 point guard or center.

Interesting that he puts Barnes into tier 2.

i almost posted this one. was going to mention this as why i don't think we will target beal, unless he separates himself from the others into a tier of his own.

As i've said before Barnes should be on the same level as the other touted prospects we have, the only reason we're thinking its blasphemy to take him at 2 is because he plays for UNC.

I don't really care about the UNC angle much. I just don't like that he didn't improve much in his second season. I would have liked to see new facets in his game and we just got the same season, more or less.

Draft Workout

Have the bobcats worked out anyone yet? The draft is two weeks away and I haven't heard of anyone coming in to audition for the Bobcats?

I agree. The fact that he had flaws in his game that showed in year 1 and also showed in year 2 bother me the most. Being in UNC has nothing to deal with it at all. He has upside and has lots of time to improve those flaws but being in a good institution like UNC and not showing drastic improvements in his game from year 1 to year 2 makes one wonder.

You sound like an insecure woman every time you bring up the UNC angle when talking about Harrison Barnes.

I'm starting to really believe the lottery was rigged. This Rome-Stern interview is embarrassing for the league.

Actually I thought the interview was hilarious. Stern was probably just having a bad day.

I can't imagine how else anyone expected Stern to answer. Without going to the extreme he eventually went to, his initial answer was fine. I would've left out the shame on you part, I guess. Don't think there was anything wrong with Rome asking the question.

The best case for tampering with results was when the ref betting scandal broke. The problem with saying the lottery is rigged is that we only had a 25% chance of getting the top pick and you can make a case for why Stern would rig the lottery in the favor of a number of teams every year, but I thought we were over complaining about the lotto.

I didn't know Stern was funny

The "have you stopped beating your wife yet?" line is an old classic. Rome just isn't as well versed in logic/rhetoric/philosophy as Stern and didn't catch it, is my guess.

I think he got it, thus why he didn't really react to it except to say that it was a fair question.

Which it was. asking "Is the lottery rigged?" is not a loaded question in any way..there is no unfair assumption in that question. He didnt ask "Did the league rig the lottery again this year?" etc. Stern's "point" was irrelevant.

The point is that it brings up ideas in people's heads that they'll remember even after Stern says no. That it was asked implies that there was a legitimate and plausible reason to believe it was rigged.

That might have merit if he asked "Are you a murderer?" or something completely random. Its completely valid to bring up popular questions and ethical concerns that go along with the league deciding to take ownership of a franchise. When the league decided to do that it should accept the questions that come along with it, especially when the team they own just happens to hit a fantastic, highly unlikely stroke of luck. Not dodge questions, act massively butthurt, and personally insult a reporter. Stern damaged the credibility of the league with that interview.

How did he dodge the question? He answered it by saying "no". There's nothing more that can be done with that question if you're David Stern. That's not good interviewing.

Good interviewing would have been like:

"Now we've all heard the different conspiracy theories, that the lottery is fixed, that the Hornets won because they were owned by the NBA, all of that. What do you think when you hear things like that?"

To which they could have talked about for a good solid 3-5 minutes. Rome instead decided to just say "so did you rig it or not?" which is pretty useless. Even if it WAS rigged, what answer did he really expect?

He did answer it by saying "no" and that was a great answer.

The problem was that he didn't stop after that, or keep the interview positive. Rome was trying to set him up to make the professional answer saying "I don't believe it at all either but its a question people have so I feel like I should answer it" but Stern in his seething rage couldn't stop himself from attacking him personally and taking cheapshots (at him and Stephen A. Smith no less  )
