I think PJ is not really a high potential guy that worth to wait for develop, and he is playing at the same position as Lamb. When the team give out the early extension to Lamb before he played a single regular season game for Hornets, it pretty much saying the team is invested in Lamb already, then PJ is not really needed considering the depth chart of Batum/Lamb, and he will be the third string SG or SF.

Then consider next summer the team had already 46M committed salary, and 20M space is needed for Batum, that's only 24M left for AI/Marvin/Lin or their equivalent, which is really not much. Every team will have cap space next summer but Hornets is not that flexible then, also players will ask for more money, you don't want to lock up your space by pick up PJ, as PJ could be easily replaced by a league minimum guy. If the team want to pick up another good player who might demanding 15 - 20M, then you want as much flexibility as possible. So you don't want to lock yourself on player like PJ.

PJ's contract isn't that far above league minimum though. The new trend is for late first round guys to try to drop to the second round so they aren't stuck with deals like PJ's.

Picking up a rookie contract option =/= "lock yourself on a player"

That money wouldn't have even mattered.

Hoops Rumors posted a piece in Sept about upcoming Rookie Scale decisions. The article confirmed that "Any team that declines a rookie scale team option can’t re-sign that player for more than the option amount, a rule in place to prevent teams from circumventing the salary cap to funnel higher paydays to star young players after two or three seasons." PJ was one of only 3 out of 50+ contracts along with Solomon Hill & Sergei Karasev to be declined, PJ's contract was the least costly of the 3 declined options by more than $1 Mln, and PJ was the only of the 3 to be starting for his team at the time,

Still a D-League level baller. Compare PJ's stats to any and every D-League callup wing player over the past few years that got a little bit of playing time and he fit right in. Lol

Honestly had a tiny sliver of hope for the guy, but I'm mostly glad that his 30% shooting is now someone else's problem.

PJ, it was tough to watch you play but you did improve a bit over the season. Hope you improve some more and get some PT in Memphis, adios!

I'll give him this...he netted more in a trade than Napier did.

We just saw the PJ Hairston life cycle in that sequence.

Step 1: *launches* we all groaned when he launched that first three because he sucks
Step 2: *splash* oh wow nice shot pj
Step 3: *splash* OH DAMN 3J
Step 4: *brick* ok back to normal
Step 5: *after play* yup he sucks again

@Hairston_pj
Thanks Buzz City for all your support! Being from NC, it meant a lot to me. Next stop, Memphis! @memgrizz

Best of luck to him. I really think getting out of NC is best for him.

Do you plan on keeping the PJ avatar on hornetsplanet? Its even more edgy now that he will be sucking terribly for a team that isn't the Hornets lol.
