Re: The Gordon Hayward Thread
If he was getting the open looks Lance if clanging off the iron he would score 25 a game. If they cover him Al scores more and MKG and Kemba drive. He was the perfect fit for what we wanted at the 2 spot.

He's better for us than Lance though. It's no contest, really.
Hayward would get exposed defensively on a island in Clifford's system of perimeter defenders shielding Big Al's terrible interior D.

Not as much as Lance gets exposed in this offense. I liked the Lance pickup but it was because I assumed we were going to adjust to getting him.

I guess I can agree to that. Lance is looking like trash in Clifford's system. As reluctant as he is to shoot 3s I wonder if he even practice them. Prolly didn't shoot a 3 all summer going thru the free agent process. He made a decent amount last year with the Pacers.

He is a rhythm scorer. If the offense worked better he could get in a rhythm then he would start to shoot more.

Our offense definitely don't have much rhythm. It's just dump it in to Al and hope he score or kick it out. I liked the motion offense that Dunlap ran a lot better. It was just a shame that Kemba only had Hendo and Mullens to rely on behind him and we still scored more points than Cliff's Alfense I think.

Reminder...we had an elite defense last season. Acting like Cliff doesn't have a good defensive system is just stupid.

So quick to defend Cliff that you didn't even read. Lol. I just said that Cliff's defense heavily depends on perimeter defenders finishing off their defensive assignment.

Yet less than two weeks in to the season, after a preseason full of injuries, folks are talking about trading Al and what needs to happen before we fire Clifford because we are too stuck on our offense. Maybe we should wait for there to be enough time to make adjustments.

Think Hayward is a worse defender than Neal or Henderson?

Worse than Hendo but not Neal. Our defense struggle mightily with Neal on the floor so I don't know what kinda point you're tryna make.

My point is we had a top six defense with Neal logging 27 mpg.

We're 7 games in. The biggest adjustments occur when you're actually facing NBA defenses. There's only so much you can do over the offseason. I'm sticking to my prediction that we finish November a few games below .500 and pick it up after that, going on a terrific run in December. That's when things will click.
We play A LOT of tough games this month anyway and going .500 against this set of opponents would be an achievement at any time of the year.

I hope you are right. Like I said I was glad we got Lance but there have been zero adjustments to having him here so far. Yes a lot of those can come in season but did Clifford really think Lance would thrive as a spot up shooter? I mean that is the spot he has put him in. Hayward would have fit perfectly into what we are running right now. Lance needs it tweaked for his sake. I am just concerned that Lance, MKG and Kemba will all struggle as long as our offense is based around Big Al.

So how long do we give him to make adjustments. Everything is pretty messed up now and just about everyone on here would agree that Lance did not fit Alfense very well. How did coach not see this and make some adjustments head of time? Lots of us thought Alfense and a lack of flexibility held us back a decent bit last year yet with an entire offseason to work it is still a mess.
