Just some thoughts on the Big men prospects.

Cody Zeller- I think he could have a Pau Gasol lite type impact in the NBA, but not sure if he will come out this year. He needs to work on his midrange jumper, but he has a very good back to the basket game, solid passer, and can put the ball on the floor if needed to. Like that he can play either the 4 or 5 in the NBA. He is a good free throw shooter for his position, but needs to demand ball more often. Finishes through contact well and continues to get bigger, I think his wingspan is getting overemphasized.

Nerlens Noel- I think he is going to be a Tyson Chandler/ Joakim Noah type player in the NBA. Great defensive player, but his offense will come along slowly and be inconsistent. Still he has the type of defensive skills that will put him DPOY talks. H moves much more fluidly then Biz and has better hands then him as well. He has the quickness and fluidity to play either the 4 or 5 in the NBA. However, I would be weary to draft him if he comes out, because its not a guarantee he is the same player when he returns. He drops a few spots for me for sure. If he decides to go back to school we will most likely not see him in draft until 2015 because there is no point of him sitting out a year of college basketball instead of nba unless he plans to play another season there.

Alex Len- I am not impressed by what I have seen from him. He seems like a worse version of Zeller. Less post moves, better outside jumper, but seems like he will be forced to play Center in the NBA, because he is not quick enough to play 4. I think he will be a solid 7 footer, but I would not take him any higher then 5th. I think you can expect Vucevic type player from him most likely.

Anthony Bennett- he seems like he could be the next Paul Milsap type player. slightly undersized for the 4, but has the jumper to stretch out to the three point line. I am worried about his lack of size, especially if we plan on starting him with Biz long term. Seems like he could be a great pick and roll/pop player to couple Kemba with and would help our frontcourt scoring. Needs to be more consistent with his effort and needs to understand he is not a perimeter player.

After the Noel injury. I think I would rank these guys in this order Bennett, Noel, Zeller, then Len.

JMAC3 wrote:I think Marcus Smart has the best chance of being an elite player in the league, because he has the best handles, impacts the game from every aspect, and can score the ball in more ways. If Smart can just improve his shot, which isn't even bad, he will have very few holes in his game coupled with his great work ethic make for an exciting player.

Admittedly I havent gotten to watch much college ball this year but from what I've seen and read, I would, have to agree to this.

I won't go as far to say he will be the best from this class but if we're trading down then I want Smart to be our guy (maybe)

Would you trade a 2-4th pick (if Charlotte doesnt want the lottery) plus Tyrus Thomas for Derrick Williams plus Timberwolves pick 6-8th plus Roy exp. contract?

Really good question since this may be a draft where you may be better off picking at two, obviously that is a joke but this draft would be very easy to screw up.

I think that if we end up with the second pick and Minny somehow end up with the fourth/fifth pick I would make a trade of:

Charlotte trade:

Pick 2, Tyrus Thomas and Jeff Taylor

Minnesota trade:

Pick 5, Derrick Williams and Alexi Shved

Obviously in this scenario Minny take either Shabazz or McLemore at 2 and Charlotte take Marcus Smart or Nerlens Noel at 5.

CHARLOTTE:
Kemba
Smart
Gilchrist
Williams
Biyombo

MINNESOTA:
Rubio
Shabazz
Kirilenko
Love
Pekovic

Minnesota wouldnt do that unless they finish with an 8th pick.

They wouldnt throw Shved in, only Barea/Ridnour or Roy exp., maybe Grizzlies pick if Charlotte send Taylor.

Tyrus contract is a big mess.

Charlotte's 2-4th pick + Tyrus Thomas for Minnesota's 6-8th pick + Pekovic and we have a deal. :D

I would definitely take Roy as last resort, I don't think he will retire, he would be a great vet though.

I've only seen Len a couple times, but both times he looked good. He played very well last night in leading Maryland over Duke. 19 pts 9 reb and 3 blks. Not worthy of #1 pick, but I can see him going #5 - #8. Too bad we cant grab him with the Portland pick. Would be awesome to get MacLemore and Len in this draft.

I think PDX fades and we only get 1 pick this year ( our own ) and 3 lottery picks next year.

Well it's supposedly a better draft anyways. I like the idea of packaging and getting a player with real talent.

I am embarrassed to have sung Mason's praises after yesterday, it is only one game but it was ugly!

That's better for us. I'd much rather have a 2014 pick than a 2013 one. If we get two mid-round 2014 picks out of DET and POR, I'm 99% sure we package to get a mid-lotto pick, giving us two top 10s in 2014, much better chance of landing a top 3 pick or packaging along with other guys to get there. No matter what you guys say, I'm positive Cho's looking at the 2014 draft or the trade market, not so much the 2013 draft, for our "third star". I don't see a star in this draft. We've got assets, and I'm positive we're going all in for a top 3 pick in 2014 to get Wiggins/Parker/Randle.

If we got a wing this year Randle could be a really good fit for us. Undersized with him and Biz but I still like a Kemba - McLemore - MKG - Randle - Biz lineup.

We could sign or draft a few 7' bench guys depending on if we re up Mully.

Mullens would actually compliment that lineup off the bench.

Randle is going to be a bust, there arent good PF prospects next year.

Randle might end up being an undersized, athletic PF. Those are hit and miss in the NBA. Noah Vonleh is a stud PF though. Reminds me a far more skilled Thomas Robinson (motor and rebounding).

I doubt that he completelys busts unless he is a lazy diva who already thinks that he is an nba allstar. Julius has a pretty uncommon skill set for a near seven footer at the highschool or college level. Had you heard something that indicates that ?

How is Randle going to be undersized? He is already 6'10, 240. I think that both of these kids will be legit...IF they are coachable. Per reputation both of these kids are extremely coachable.

From a physical standpoint he's average, his skillset is fine but he wants to play the SF, so I don't really believe in his chances at all.

I don't like Gordon either.

Best prospects next year are Wiggins, Parker, Harrison, Hezonja and Walker.

Can we let the class play a minute of college ball before we determine who will be good or not?
