Around the NBA 11

Terry Rozier probably shot 100% on 3-pointers in the last 5 minutes of that game within plus or minus five points. Just going like five hundred in those close games last year would have probably resulted in five less wins for us. Regression incoming.

Our record last year year was fools gold - and we won significantly more games than last year, even more if you consider last years win total as fools gold.

You predicted we’d only have 34 wins and we had 9 more wins than that.

Yet you still insist we underachieved?

I don’t know man, feels like you’re stuck on what you wanted to have happen over the summer that didn’t happen the way you wanted it to and it’s impacting your perspective on the results of the season.

Nets do not look that tough. Cavs will be a tough out for the Hawks or Hornets.

I think we overestimate our players. We don't have as much talent as we think we do. Especially with Hayward out, Oubre doing Oubre things, and no true center. I'm thrilled with our win total.

Agreed, our veterans are only okay. We have a lot decent guys, but no real difference maker other than Hayward. Who we all know is only available about half of the time. Rozier is above average, he's a starter on at least a few other teams. But other than those two and Harrell, who might get some minutes depending on the matchup, none of our veterans would make the playoff rotation on a contender. Plumlee and Oubre wouldn't see the floor and IT likely wouldn't either.

So while we have depth, it isn't exactly anything to write home about. We need to improve our veteran depth and continue to develop the guys we drafted to take another step. I wholly think that is something this organization is capable of doing, so despite our less than great current depth there is a lot to look forward to.

I have to remind myself that we are still 2-3 seasons away, LaMelo is so young. Still, this season feels like a disappointment because of all the blown opportunities. Its been like that with this franchise for over a decade though so whatever

1. i was angry about our offseason
2. i was right about our close game regression (except it went too far in other direction... 0-7 in ot)
3. you should know by now i am negative as a form of protection about getting my hopes too high and then disappointed
4. hornets always win 32-38 games, history was on my side
5. i baked melo getting injured into my projections because the bball gods hate us
6. once i saw how good miles/melo looked, the leap by cody, and how fast we played and our new improved offense, the predictions from summer are out the window. so based on the pure talent of our core 5-6 guys, we showed we should be a top 6 team. i really truly believe we should have won 5 more games and thats what i'm talking about when i say we underachieved.

were we better than i expected preseason? yes
should we have won more than 43? also yes
both can be true
its ok to be excited about how good we are and also frustrated we arent playing to our obvious full potential

How about the intestinal fortitude of Russell and Edwards...once labeled immature players, they didn't let the moment get to them down 10 with 5 minutes left, and then hitting some monster shots and FT's

I would probably measure him versus Wing Defenders oh, mostly a separate group of Defenders other than maybe Bruce Bowen.

That being said, I don't think he is anywhere near that class of Defender. In fact, I would argue that Cody Martin is a better Defender than MKG or at least on the same level. Not elite, but every good.

Best wing Defenders off top of head

K Leonard
Pippin
Bowen
Thybule
Mikal B
MJ
Kobe
LeBron
Rodman (and big Defender cat)
M Cooper

I'm sure I'm missing a few, but MKG never on that level... sadly.

Mkg didn't have the length to smother opponents, nor the strength to overpower them. He didn't have incredibly quick hands to constantly get deflections and steals. And he certainly didn't have the type of mentality to intimidate opponents. He suffered from nice guy syndrome. We always wished he had a bit more of a dog in him when it came to defending.

Cody might not be quite as good as of an on ball Defender as mkg but I believe he's a better off ball defender in terms of anticipating, getting to loose balls deflections etc...

Where does Gerald Wallace and Eddie Jones rank as our franchise wing Defenders? Both made all NBA defense which mkg never did.

Cody m, mkg, Wallace, Jones, phills... how would you rank them purely on defensive ability?
