we got really lucky against the bucks when we started ball/graham to begin the 2nd half. they were both in danger of being in foul trouble at one point and it was just wildly unnecessary to take that risk when you've got functioning options at the wing then.

LaMelo and Graham are going to have play minutes together or neither will be able to play enough minutes. Same with Monk and Graham.

Seems like this franchise has had dual pg lineups for the last 16 years.

Knight and Felton.
Felton and Augustin.
Augustin and Walker.
Walker and Graham.
Graham and Rozier.
Rozier and Ball.

Watch us draft Suggs this offseason....

When will the madness stop?!?!?

The good news is that none of the guys above appear to be nearly as good as LaMelo seems to be.

I don't mind them playing together. But LaMelo in the shame corner or both of them starting the 2nd half when one has 3 fouls and the other has 2?

There's better ways to approach this stuff than one size fits all double pg lineups

The curse of not making the deal to draft CP3 is that we will have dual PG lineups for the entirety of his career in the NBA. Thanks Bernie!

Heat looked like they had a gameplan, did a good job of trapping him along the baseline. Let's see how our budding star adjusts.

It's kinda crazy I've never heard of this dude either. He was an all-star as a rookie and put up great assist numbers for a big who played in the 70s and 80s! 19/9/5.6 as a rookie is incredibly impressive.

He's also the Suns career stat leader in a bunch of stuff

Sickeningly bad video (turn down your volume), but here he is in all of his glory. ROY putting up 33 in the '76 finals. Cray cray.

Welcome to the 'The Alvan Adams Thread - The LaMelo Ball Thread' :D

To keep this LaMelo related - our aspiring ROY might benefit from emulating a meal or two (but not three) from the former ROY: https://www.nba.com/suns/history/alvan-adams-makes-nba-history-after-eating-47-chicken-wings#

From RealGM's florid scribe, McGowan:

"Maybe the experts were right, we obviously don’t know anything for sure some 20 games into a season that feels slightly fictional and intensely sluggish, but these marquee rookies are making trouble. LaMelo Ball and James Wiseman are both overwhelmingly gifted. Ball is finding open teammates at roughly the same clip he’s starting fast breaks for the opposing squad, but his panache is unmatched. Conversion rate aside, seeing what he thinks to throw in the first place—awkward slingshotted jump hooks, no-look dropoffs, 30-foot bounce passes—is genuinely disorienting. You watch enough basketball, you can spot most assists as they’re developing. You get attuned to the rhythms of how open shots are created. LaMelo’s working off a different time signature. It’s not yet highly effective—James Borrego is going to be salt and pepper before the season’s over—but it is exciting."

We have a special player in LaMelo. Don't screw this up MJ and Mitch, we can't squander this opportunity.

Only part of that I disagree with is the part about starting fast breaks for opponents. His A/T ratio is 2-1 at the moment which isn't ideal but it means he's at least twice as likely to help the team than to hurt it with his passes.

I don't think anyone expected him to be this good so soon except the guy who is calling him the next Michael Jordan on the general board. Definitely feels like its time to start him full time. I was in favor of the cautious approach, but I think hes showed hes ready.

Which is why we must produce a winner around him. Hayward can still be in prime form another 2 years from now so we have to add another piece and be looking for someone to take over for Hayward as LaMelo approaches the end of his rookie deal. Will Mitch be able to do that or will we need another regime change?
