Re: Prodigal Son: The Miles Bridges Thread
First of all, what are the Clippers even doing. Second of all, I'm OK getting Norm and Mann + a FRP to move Miles. It must mean he wants beyond $30m AAV. But he's stuck because Utah is the only team who can outright sign him and they don't sound interested. Of course Miles would love to go to LA if he can't stay in Charlotte or move back to Detroit. This really is the PJ situation all over again. He has a chance to make $100m or $125m if he did 5/25 or 4/25. I'd be shocked if we aren't offering at least that. If we aren't offering at least that, I think it tells you how the org actually values him and ought to be a red flag for other teams tbh.
Either way, we cannot afford to lose a player like him for nothing. That type of thing sets franchises back. So either resign him or send him elsewhere for compensation we can make something out of.
If it is to LAC for Norm + Mann or Mann + PJ + a frp, we can still do some maneuvering to balance out the roster.

That's 9 guards. 10 if you call Martin a guard.
Our starting PF would be the same height as those guards too (Grant is 6'6).
Which is why a 3-team deal makes more sense. Or at least have other trade chances to turn some of these guards into players who are over 6'8.
Jackson, KJ, Bryce and possibly Micic are unserious long term guards anyway. We can flat out waive Bryce by July 18th without penalty. I'm positive we can flip Micic or Mann or NSJ for that matter. Wasn't Powell in contention for 6th man this past season? I'm not worried about this issue if this deal went through.

Re: Prodigal Son: The Miles Bridges Thread
its easy to say let Miles go and I'm all for turning the future over to Miller and Melo but then you look at the roster and you've added toughness and playmaking but not scoring and haven't replaced Rozier's or Miles' 20 ppg, and where do points come from?

If Klutch can find a trade partner that will offer a decent player and a pick for Miles I'm sure Peterson will play ball. The Clippers don't have any picks, so Klutch needs to look elsewhere.

Re: Prodigal Son: The Miles Bridges Thread
The rumored clippers package is terrible imo. Powell (salary matching expiring) and Mann (who I happen to like) are lesser talents who don't move the needle and make us older. Their 2031 pick would need to be unprotected, for me to even consider it.
Otherwise, if the remaining money out there completely dries up, we have a 26yo 21ppg scorer with no negotiating leverage who can likely be retained on a deeply discounted contact unless he's going to take a haircut MLE elsewhere.
Re-up him for 18-20 mil per and then re-explore trading him again mid season when he has more of a market..

Re: Prodigal Son: The Miles Bridges Thread
The Clippers have pretty limited assets. They have firsts in 2030 and 2031, only 1 can be moved. They have 2nds in 2030 and 2031, both can be moved. They can still trade Cam Christie draft rights because he hasn't signed his rookie deal yet.
Players wise, a lot of talk about Norman and Mann, but also the Clippers have been wanting to dump PJ Tucker after he opted into his 11 million dollar player option. I am sure the Clippers are pushing him back in our faces as contract filler.
Overall I think whatever package they would send would be underwhelming tbh. They are a team with limited assets, options so the fact they are interested in a 20 ppg forward makes a lot of sense on their end.

I think you also have to be careful about your reputation with agents and around the league if you're the Hornets. If the contract is a low ball, it might be a bad luck. I'm fine giving him what he's worth, which is $25m/AAV but I'd also not lose my mind if we got him for $30m considering where the contracts are going. Miles brings a lot to the table on the basketball court. He's not efficient as option 1a or 1b but as the third or fourth best player overall? He's very valuable and he's durable, more so than any other player on this roster. I think the negotiations are just tough and they currently favor the Hornets.

Re: Prodigal Son: The Miles Bridges Thread
Miles is also not the only FA that hasn't signed that will be looking for a decent payday. Okoro, Tyus Jones, Derozan, Gary Trent Jr, Fultz.. I think it is pretty unreasonable for fans of the Hornets to be mad at Bridges for not signing a deal 3 days in FA.
If the Hornets are only offering him 20 million, I would be hesitant to sign that as well. We really have not heard what the offer looks like.

How will Melo feel if Bridges decides to leave?

Re: Prodigal Son: The Miles Bridges Thread
Miles Bridges has made 24 million over his first 6 years since getting drafted. Including 8 million total the last 2 years, sure that is a lot of money to the regular Joe Schmo, but him wanting to get paid isn't a wild thought. He has clearly been better than 4 million per year he has made thus far in his NBA career.
Charlotte has one of the lowest payrolls in the NBA, if we cheap out and let him walk because he wants 28 million instead of 23 million I just don't see how saving that little bit of money is really going to help us in the future.
Hard to see any world where he isn't averaging 18 ppg over the next 4 years. Dudes are literally signing for 50+ million, this contract will be a drop in the bucket in 2 years.

Who cares? This isn’t 2022. He needs to get some skin in the game again. Hands down, man down.

Yeah really couldn’t really care less what he thinks or how he feels about a roster move

Exactly. When Ball plays more than half the season for a couple of years running his feelings can count again.

I think he would mainly care because if we trade Miles for the realistic packages available we will be a worse team then we are with him...

This is where I'm at. Out of the options that appear to be on the table, resigning him still seems like it's our best move. Even if it's upwards of $30m (which I've GOT to assume he would sign right now if it was in fact $30) it's not terrible given how much the cap is going to go up during his contract. He's not an empty stats guy in the way Kuzma is either and I strongly believe he's very good as a 3rd or 4th option vs last year being basically Option 1B most of the season with zero playmaking. The moment we had a passable PG on the floor, his efficiency and shots as the rim all went up.

We offer 2/55 with a third and 4th year team option for 35 and 40 or whatever the contracts allow as a bump. If he is worth it we can keep him thru the expensive part and he gets a 30 million average. If Salaun is ready early, he can get traded or let off.

The other possibility is the team knows he is a bad presence and only wants to keep him if he is a bargain. If so, we gotta ride it out or make a S/T deal.

We need to sign Miles for a matching contract to send back to Golden State. The time is almost here:

Re: Prodigal Son: The Miles Bridges Thread
Starting to feel like our offer intentionally steers him into the market and forces his agency to work with Charlotte for a trade return. The cap dried up fairly quickly because Paul George made a quick decision. The remaining teams don't have the cap to sign him.
Still, it feels like we are saying goodbye in so many words. Timely how the team is reconnecting with the face of the franchise right around the same time we may be saying goodbye to the current longest tenured Hornet.
The return is the bigger uncertainty in my opinion. I think he's out. Some league experts expect us to be in on Cam Johnson. I can only guess why.

Re: Prodigal Son: The Miles Bridges Thread
i think it's fairly obvious, to me at least, that the new front office and owners aren't dying to have him back. they can't talk all this stuff about changing culture and then go nuts trying to bring miles back. there's no urgency to win next year either.
i don't expect him back on any contract. i wont be surprised to see miles take a smaller, shorter mle type deal with a contender ust to kick the can down the road again in search of that big payday. its that or s/t.
