Re: Around the NBA 11
"The uncertainty surrounding Kupchak has sparked the latest round of whispers in and around Charlotte that this may be Kupchak's final year helming the Hornets' front office. But to be fair, word of Kupchak's potential departure—or a transition to more of an advisory role—has echoed among league personnel for each of the past few seasons. Still, there would seem to be more credence to the rumors this summer without an extension in place. "

Re: Around the NBA 11
"There have been plenty of rumored potential replacements over the years, but the two most commonly discussed names are Buzz Peterson, Jordan's college roommate at UNC and the Hornets' assistant general manager since 2014, and Chicago Bulls general manager Marc Eversley, who began his career at Nike, the parent company of the Jordan Brand. Eversley interviewed for the general manager position in 2018, but the role went to Kupchak instead. "

Re: Around the NBA 11
Mitch has drafted fairly well, which is a huge change from Cho, so I hope not

Hope Mitch stays on for at least another season or two. Generally not use to having a GM not be a complete trainwreck.

I have a very difficult time believing that's true, but I guess we'll see.

Re: Around the NBA 11
I have a feeling there's truth to those rumors. Kupchak probably wants to have the advisory role that Jerry West had with the Warriors and Clippers with someone else running the day to day things. He'll probably still have a lot of influence, especially when it comes to the draft.
I just hope MJ doesn't reward a yes man like Buzz and gives someone that has experience, competence, and connections around the league the job. I think we should be pretty happy if Marc Eversley is hired with Kupchak stepping into an advisory role. If Buzz gets the job though god help us.

Re: Around the NBA 11
I'd be royally pissed if Buzz gets the job. Someone on reddit mentioned that when Mitch was hired, he was supposed to "groom" Buzz so he can step in to the role later on. I believe Rod Boone wrote a piece on Buzz Peterson about his role and what's like working with Mitch. Unfortunately, it was exclusive on Charlotte Observer so I wasn't able to read it. Would be nice to know if Boone touched upon the dynamics between Kupchak and Peterson.

Buzz said that Mitch runs a tight ship and demands answers from scouts and will make them go back and find out if they don't produce the data. He has created a hierarchy that runs through Buzz and Mitch is very much a delegator and consensus-builder. Buzz said most of the time there's consensus on a player. It doesn't sound like there's any discord nor resentment of the hierarchy. All roles are clearly defined and there isn't guessing involved. It came across that Kupchak is the architect of the front office and the infrastructure would function normally with him pulling back and taking on an advisory role. They all respect him and answer to him.
It has been written...

Pelicans look good. They absolutely can make the playoffs if Kawhi doesn't play and they hang on here.

Ridiculous how underrated Brandon Ingram is.

I've always liked the guy. I was hoping Mitch would go after his guy. I love Miles Bridges but if we'd be given the opportunity, I'd trade him for Ingram in a heart beat.

Thanks for sharing this. This reinforces Nata Edwards' assertion that not much would change if ever Mitch steps back and Buzz assumes more responsibility in running the team.

Once the Sixers implode in the playoffs again I'd immediately inquire on Thybulle. Dude is a defensive monster on the wing.

Is the Pels front office secretly rooting for the Clips tonight?
