I am not sure what that list was, but rookies almost always shoot low percentages. Add that to the fact that Kemba came aboard the worst team in nba history, and was asked to assume a lot of the offense. It should not be surprising that he had one of the worst shooting percentages in history. Neither should that be an indictment against him. We all know that he has heart for days, and a boat load of talent. I think we ought to give him a little patience beyond his first season playing against the best players in the world.

Agreed. I think Kemba will have a really bright season. He'll actually have players to defer offense to which will increase his efficiency and FG%.

The list is pretty depressing. Of the 28 unique names on the list, only 5 panned out to be average or better on the NBA level: Mookie Blaylock, Larry Hughes, Terrell Brandon, Jason Kidd and Rodney Stuckey. (Honorable mention to Rex Chapman and Bobby Jackson, who may have had better careers if they didn't have injury trouble.)

Unfortunately, four of those five had success due to their defense and passing rather than their offense. In reality, only Terrell Brandon serves as a promising example of a young inefficient guard who turned the corner to become an average or better offensive player.

The odds are not good for Kemba.

Cool. What are the stats for rookies coming off a lockout season with no TC and no coaching staff in place?

I just had to check this out to help my curiosity. Point guards in their rookie years after the 1998-99 lockout.

Mike Bibby (#2) - 13.2ppg, 2.7rpg, 6.5apg, 1.6spg, 2.9tpg, FG 43%, 3PT 20%, 50 GMS, 35.2mpg
(Vancouver Grizzlies 8-42, HC - Brian Hill) (note, that's the team that previously had the least wins in a season)

Jason Williams (#7) - 12.8ppg, 3.1rpg, 6.0apg, 1.9spg, 2.9tpg, FG 37%, 3PT 31%, 50 GMS, 36.1mpg
(Sacramento Kings 27-23, HC - Rick Adelman, 1st round exit against Jazz, Williams 10/4/4 vs Stock 12/4/7)

Bryce Drew (#16) - 3.5pgg, 0.9rpg, 1.5apg, 0.4spg, 0.9tpg, FG 36%, 3PT 33%, 34 GMS, 13.0mpg
(PER 36 - 9.6ppg, 2.6rpg, 4.2apg, 1.0spg, 2.5tpg)
(Houston Rockets 31-10, HC - Rudy Tomjanovich, 1st round exit against Lakers)

Tyronn Lue (#23) - 5.0ppg, 0.4rpg, 1.7apg, 0.3spg, 0.7tpg, FG 43%, 3PT 44%, 15 GMS, 12.5mpg
(PER 36 - 14.4ppg, 1.1rpg, 4.8apg, 1.0spg, 2.1tpg)
(Los Angeles Lakers 31-19, HC - Del Harris/Kurt Rambis, 2nd round exit against Spurs)

Shammond Williams (#34) - Basically didn't play, there's Mookie and Anthony Johnson.

tay out of the air. Play below the rim. Keep your feet on the ground.

They seem like weird things to tell an NBA player, especially one who is generously listed at 6-foot-1 like the Charlotte Bobcats’ Kemba Walker.

But new Bobcats coach Mike Dunlap believes that Walker’s gruesome shooting percentage for his rookie season – 36.6 percent – will improve along with his total assists if he will look before he leaps.

Said Dunlap of Walker: “Last year he would get up in the air a lot, and it was difficult for him up there. So we’re working on teaching him to play on the ground and service other people within the spacing of our [fast] break.”

I know it's just preseason, but I want to recognize that Kemba has been shooting 50% throughout the first 3 games.

He's probably been the hardest working Bobcat in the gym this offseason, and I'm a firm believer in the motto that hardwork pays off, so I hope I'm not jinxing him. As long as he can stay above 44% for the season at his height & size, I will consider it a successful improvement. Anything between 40%-43% will be marginal, but acceptable.

Kemba Walker, Charlotte
Nobody's talking about this because the Bobcats are invisible, but Walker has been fantastic so far this season. While Charlotte's perimeter players in general have punched way above their weight (Ben Gordon, Ramon Sessions and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist all have produced far more than expected thus far), Walker has been the breakout star of this group.

Through five games -- two of which the Bobcats actually won! -- he's averaging 18.8 points, getting to the line and handing out three and a half dimes for every turnover. In Year 2, it appears he may have figured out how to harness his shoot-first tendencies to fit into an NBA offense.

John Hollinger article titled "What a Difference a Season Makes," wherein he highlights 12 players surprising with their stellar level of play so far this season. Kemba first on the list. Gotta love the "Bobcats are invisible" comment.

He's spot on with that "Bobcats are invisible" comment. We really are until something bad happens to us.

I tried to tell you guys last year that rookies almost always shoot a bad percentage. Add that fact that Kemba was asked to lead the worst team in nba history in a shortened compacted season with a joke of an x's and o's coach, and he had no choice but to struggle.

Kemba had a solid rookie season considering the situation he was put in. Heck, he's still a rookie to me until after 16 games. I was surprised to see that he led the team in PER last year

He was right around the league average. Leading last year's Bobcats in PER is no real accomplishment, to put it bluntly. Honestly, to me, Biz and Kemba are rookies all this season. Too much weird crap went on last year (lockout, coach, losing streaks) to have any positive learning experience for either of them. It's a fresh start in my opinion. They're both rookies till June in my book.

You're right but considering that the team had veterans in Augustin, Henderson, and even Diaw I consider it somewhat noteworthy that he led in PER. It's no biggie though.

How fitting for the Cats?!? Kemba Walker is the catalyst (cat-alyst). I'm happy MKG landed with Charlotte so I can marvel at the growth of Kemba as well.
