http://hoopshype.com/galleries/hoopshyp ... ts-history

the nets... this is gonna be tough. lots of ABA guys involved in this one. i might have to look up a few aba rosters to make sure i dont miss somebody. plus the nets havent had a lot of guys who were great with them for many years.

my best guess at top 15 (hoopshype in parenthesis)

1.julius erving - only there a few years, but got them championships in ABA which is better than what kidd did (2)
2.jason kidd (1)
3.buck williams (3)
4.derrick coleman (6)
5.vince carter (4)
6.bill melchionni - had to look this one up, pg during great ABA run (14)
7.richard jefferson (5)
8.mike gminski (9)
9.keyon martin (16)
10.kerry kittles (10)
11.drazen petrovic (7)
12.deron williams (23)
13.brook lopez (11)
14.jayson williams (21)
15.chris morris (8)

so many good players missed the cut for their top 15 because they were only there for a few seasons - rick barry, bernard king, sam cassell, stephon marbury, mookie

nets have a few too many "what if" players in coleman and michael ray richardson as well

the guys i missed
15. keith van horn
13. billy paultz - ABA
12. john williamson - ABA

12/15
8/10
4/5

anytime richard jefferson is in your top 5 you have problems

HOU signing Ronnie Brewer. I don't understand. That gives them 19 players under contract. Why are they still signing players?

He's a decent player and they've got a lot of unguaranteed contracts and one-year deals they can afford to eat. They do this every year and then waive like 45 players at the end of training camp.

Brooks, Casspi, Turtle, Smith, Young, Henriquez, and Covington are all waive-able.

Apparently Lawson was arrested on a domestic violence incident. He's now a complete headcase with zero value. Let's trade Ben Gordon for his huge terrible deal and a pair of 1st round picks.

seems i missed some of the top 50 on hoopshype.... catching up

chicago
http://hoopshype.com/galleries/hoopshyp ... ls-history

my guess at the top 15

1.michael jordan (1)
2.scottie pippen (2)
3.artis gilmore (4)
4.derrick rose (10)
5.horace grant (8)
6.toni kukoc (12)
7.dennis rodman (13)
8.bob love (3)
9.loul deng (6)
10.joakim noah (22)
11.jerry sloan (5)
12.chet walker (9)
13,norm van leir (7)
14.bj armstrong (15)
15.reggie theus (11)

noah at 22 is absurd.
i really thought rose would be higher due to winning an MVP

players i missed

14. john paxon

14/15

celtics

this one is going to be damn near impossible to predict the order of the top 20 guys.

http://hoopshype.com/galleries/hoopshyp ... cs-history

1. bill russell (1)
2. larry bird (2)
3. john havlicek (3)
4. bob cousy (5)
5. kevin mchale (6)
6. paul pierce (4)
7. robert parish (7)
8. dave cowens (8)
9. sam jones (9)
10. kevin garnett (11)
11. bill sharman (13)
12. tom heinsohn (12)
13. dennis johnson (16)
14. jo jo white (10)
15. antoine walker (23)

cousy or havlicek for the #3 spot is a serious debate and both sides could have valid arguments.
garnett is tough to rank. 10 is probably a bit too high
silas at 27, props to him. great rebounder.
i debated keeping walker out of top 15. apparently his empty stats werent enough. i can live with that.
charlotte here cornbread barely misses at 17, one spot ahead of rondo.
so they went with pierce over mchale, thats another really good debate that could go either way. i'd lean towards mchale due to more rings.
however, pierce ahead of cousy is nuts. complete and utter craziness. cousy has him in every single statistical category and rings and league awards.

guys i missed
15. tom sanders
14. don nelson
both getting the lifetime achievement awards... meh

still catching up...

up next, the lakers

http://hoopshype.com/galleries/hoopshyp ... eIdslide-0

my guess at the top 15

1.magic johnson (1)
2.kobe bryant (2)
3.kareem abdul jabbar (3)
4.jerry west (4)
5.elgin baylor (6)
6.shaquille oneal (5)
7.george mikan (7)
8.wilt chamberlain (13)
9.gail goodrich (9)
10.james worthy (8)
11.byron scott (12)
12.jamal wilkes (10)
13.pao gasol (11)
14.michael cooper (14)
15.ac green (19)

kobe gets the nod over kareem since kareem played much of his peak with the bucks
wilt just didnt have enough years with the lakers to be any higher (edit, and i still had wilt too high)

after doing boston and lakers back to back, boston is deeper for sure.

i might vomit if i see derek fisher in the top 15, but it could happen. (edit - thankfully he was 17, lunch still in stomach)

players i missed
15. vern mikkelsen

time for the knicks, another tough one, long history but few players there were great with them for a long period of time since they prime days in the late 60s and early 70s.

1.patrick ewing (1)
2.walt frazier (2)
3.willis reed (3)
4.earl monroe (4)
5.richie guerin - no clue about him, but HoF for knicks (10)
6.bill bradley (5)
7.dave debusschere (6)
8.carl braun - no clue about him either, but scored a ton for them (12)
9.harry gallatin - another i have no clue about, but also in HoF (15)
10.bernard king - probably too high since he had a brief flame, but when he was good, he was awesome (7)
11.charles oakley (9)
12.bill cartwright (14)
13.mark jackson (16)
14.john starks (13)
15.allan houston - i refuse to rank empty stats houston any higher (8)

tough call between frazier and reed, frazier was mvp and finals mvp, but frazier was 7time 1st team all defense.
i wonder if carmelo will get in on the back of 2.5 seasons. we'll see (edit, nope, he was 26)
damn, i just missed my 1st 15/15 by one spot, mark jackson at 16
8 for houston is just way too high for a guy who only did one thing
glad to see king listed higher than i predicted

players i missed
11. dick barnett

last of the ones i missed (i think), the raptors. this should be rather craptastic.

my best guess

1.vince carter (1)
2.chris bosh (2)
3.antonio davis - hey, at least he made an all-star game as a raptor (5)
4.jose calderon (3)
5.andrea bargnani (6)
6.demar derozan (10)
7.damon stoudamire (7)
8.morris peterson - talk about being average for a long time (4)
9.doug christie (8)
10.alvin williams - not joking (9)
11.tracy mcgrady (11)
12.jalen rose (12)
13.amir johnson (13)
14.jerome williams (17)
15.anthony parker (14)

wow that was depressing. toronto where washed up vets go to die (oakley, olajuwon, marshall, curry, willis, robertson...)
i should probably put gay on the list based on a half season
one of my all-time faves, donyell marshall just misses at 16.
not a derozan fan but seems he got disrespected in this ranking. 10 is too low considering the alternatives.
seems hoopshype was more impressed with peterson many average years over davis having made an all-star game for them and played almost as many years.

lets see how i did. or who cares?

players i missed
15. charles oakley

14/15 - seems to be my magic number
10/10 - my 1st 10 out of 10
4/5

at first glance, its even worse than i expected. outside of vince and bosh its basically bobcats bad.

turner, wroten and carter-williams... all together on the floor at the same time. that would be awesomely horrific.

even better check out this lineup for April of next year

pg: carter-williams
sg: wroten
sf: turner
pf: young
c: noel

nobody shoots from outside 5 feet.

For the amount of time the Raps have been around, Amir Johnson is 13th? Daaayyyyuuummmmmm

Also why did we not pounce on a Tony Wroten for 2nd rounder deal? Hell I would've even given them Ben Gordon to lead their tank. They literally have the cap space to eat his salary.

This 76ers team will be interesting to watch. Lots of young guys with potential who will be getting lots of minutes.

They're not going to be winning many games at all though.

I really hope J-Rich, Hawes, Young, and company all get shipped off for rookies and sophomores and future picks. That team could challenge our terrible record from 2011-12. Regardless, they're a bottom 3 team for sure. 18 wins tops.

time for the cavs top 50

my best guess

1.lebron james (1)
2.mark price (2)
3.brad daugherty (3)
4.zydrunas ilgauskas (4)
5.larry nance (6)
6.austin carr (5)
7.hot rod williams (7)
8.terrell brandon (9)
9.craigh ehlo (15)
10.tyrone hill (21)
11.campy russell (12)
12.bingo smith (8)
13.world b free (10)
14.andersen varejao (16)
15.danny ferry (14)

hm - ron harper (what could have been... ACL problems back in the day really wrecked careers)

kryie to crack top 5 in two years

outside of lebron and the golden years of late 80s early 90s, pretty boring list.

some dude named "foots walker" checks in at #28. what a great name.

no respect for tyrone hill. seems hoopshype is just sorting by points scored. dude damn near averaged a double double for the cavs for half a decade and made an all-star team. that is good enough for top 15.

guys i missed
13. ron harper as previously mentioned
11. jim chones

Always sad when it becomes clear that a supremely talented athlete's swift decline was due in part to drug abuse.
