I honestly feel like if this league was real the winner would be whoever happened to be the hottest during the playoffs.

I agree, although I still can't see Karl Malone doing it!

Especially against such stiff competition.

Possible controversial statement as I think Bosh has become underestimated by his decision to join the super team.

I think if Bosh played with Stockton he would have been just as effective, if not better than Malone.

He's a smart team player, whose always had a solid jump shot with a better post game than Malone.
Not as physical, athletic but he would have excelled in the Jazz pick n roll/pop

I could see that with Bosh. My only knock against him in this draft was that he hadn't yet developed his outside game or had any experience playing on winning teams at the time.

Here is Chris Bosh's shot chart for that year. (Darker blues are above league average)

Compare his shooting by distance stats for that year compared to the earliest recorded I could find for Malone 2000-01.

Image

His mid distance shooting was fine.

I'm not arguing for my team, I'm out of the competition, but I just think Bosh will be undervalued when compared to the likes of Malone due to his career choice. (And the blood clots I guess.)

Votes as they currently stand. Waiting on winner of the ESAL vs YB sim matchup for remaining votes. ESAL guaranteed at least 2 more votes, which puts him in 1st, with at least 15. YB could tie Coolio for 4th with a win against ESAL. Fats already with the 3rd place votes in the sim, which bumps total to 14, tied with Gatz for 2nd. So really only remaining factor will be YB finishing in 5th with 10 votes or tied for 4th with 11 votes.

Gatz: 14
ESAL: 13
Fats: 13
Coolio: 11
Yose: 8
Diop: 8
Ian: 4
Lamar: 4
BTG: 2
Flip 0 :(

Updated for Coolios votes:
1st Fats
2nd ESAL
3rd Lamar

What we do next is up for discussion.
1. We can declare ESAL the winner and be done
2. We can give to the PC board for one more cumulative vote to be tallied with others, then either declare winner or do head to head matchups - although, not sure we can top what ESAL gave us in terms of entertainment.
3. We can take top 4 (including ties) and let the PC board decide the winner of the remaining 4.

Hoping to finish the sum tonight. But we don't need to use it in the voting process of people don't want. Though 100% legit. I see why some people would be against it.

Time for some random 90s trivia. Name the player whose 1991-92 stat sheet looks like this:

Right you are. It's John "Hot Plate" Williams and the time he was suspended for a full freaking season due to his weight problems.

My guess was Ollie Miller, I honestly don't remember Hotrod going fat.

Kemp getting fat was the saddest. Especially for poor Cleveland who just traded for him

Two different players with same name - John Williams. Both started playing in NBA in 1987.

John "Hot Rod" Williams, 6'11", 215, Tulane University, PF/C
http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/w/williho01.html
Played mostly for Cavs. Hot Rod was a toothpick. Died in 2015 from cancer.

John "Hot Plate" Williams, 6'8", 235?, LSU, PF/SF
http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/w/willijo02.html
Played mostly for Bullets.

- Lamar video - 11pts,10reb,13ast,5tls

Hot Plate was probably the more talented of the two. He was an amazing passer, just a very naturally skilled big man, who was an early point forward type. But he just could not stay healthy and could not keep the weight off. Hot Plate was more of your energetic lanky shot blocking, rim running big. In only 18 games, before getting hurt in 89-90, Hot Plate averaged 18.2/7.6/4.7. He was like an old school Boris Diaw.

Can't say I'd heard of Hot Plate, I always remembered Hot Rod being a solid pro for Cleveland and Phoenix.

I remember Olliver Miller being talented as well. It always amazes me to see guys kill their careers with weight problems

Of course Lamar has a video of Ollie as well :D

Beating the GOAT Bulls. Although the W should have a * as the Bull were playing without Longley :)

Unfortunately, he also has his own negative footnote (not that it's his fault or anything) in NBA history when the Miami Heat threw this crazy offer sheet at him during that time's crazy salary cap increase. Solid player but probably ended up being seriously over-paid.

That Cleveland team was probably the first team I barracked for as I was big Mark Price fan.

I mean duh, he was an unathletic barely 6 foot white guy who was successful in the NBA a large part due to his awesome shooting.
I wanted to be him.

How about this for a list of 5 rookies playing their first season together.

Mark Price, Ron Harper, Johnny Newman, Hot Rod and Daugherty.

Daugherty and Harper were the first round picks, Hot Rod and Newman were 2nd round picks and they traded a 2nd round pick for Price.

What a draft by their GM!! Seriously, has anyone drafted 5 solid starting players in one draft like that?

Then they stuffed it up by trading Harper for Danny Stuffing Ferry. They included a draft pick which became Loy Vaught

Wow, I had no idea that they all had their rookie years at the same time. That's a freaking 50-win starting five right there. I can't think of any other example like this.

As for the trade, yeah.. That's just awful.

"Boston waited a year for Larry Bird. San Antonio waited two years for David Robinson," Cleveland general manager Wayne Embry said. "You will see. Danny Ferry will be well worth the wait."

On top of that they gave him that super-long contract.

After two months, I think it's time we put this contest to bed. It was a very fun ride and well worth the participation, probably the most active discussions we've ever had for a scavenger draft. We never got around to the PC board as our attention spans fizzled as voting was unclear, but that's OK, the fun part is the process.

I'm fine with declaring ESAL this year's winner and Gatz as the runner up.

I thought we all decided that ESAL rigged the voting?
