Clippers are apparently trying to trade for Lonzo. I wonder if there is any way we could get involved in this deal somehow.

Not familiar enough with NO, do they view Hayes as part of their core and their 5, moving forward? He or Zubac would be a welcomed addition.

Then it depends about the kind of compensation NO wishes (and the possibility for LA to keep Lonzo on a cost control contract). If LA pays the biggest price in terms of picks, it would be obviously amazing to land Zubac (even though he is not really an intimidator).

Another option would be to eat one of the bad contracts (from LA obviously Kennard)

I’d love to get Zubac, who is a longer and slightly more athletic than Zeller. At 24, he has promise to develop further. Starting recently for the Pels he played well. I’d throw in to NO either of our 2nd round 5’s too if we had to (prefer to keep Richards). That gives them a young replacement 5 to go with a young promising player in Bridges. I doubt they’d do the earlier deal that would effectively be Monk for Zubac. Go get him Mitch!

A bigger version of the above trade:

http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yhcny8j4

We basically swap Zeller for Zubac. Redick is traded to someone else or waived.

Ive thought a lot about possible Zubac trades this season, but never really felt any were plausible because I didn't see any reason for the Clippers to trade him to the Hornets (they like Rozier, but I don't think we'd trade him for Zubac without more value coming back), but getting involved in a three way Lonzo trade actually seems somewhat plausible because the best asset they could trade for him is probably Zubac, but New Olreans has no use for him with Adams, Hayes, and WHG, already on the roster. New York is the other team linked to Lonzo and they also have Mitchell Robinson that they'd probably want to include in a Lonzo trade.

Would need solid protection on the first. I worry how Ball will do here with all the depth at G and at this point is Hayes better than Zeller?

you guys should really hit up some NOLA fans and get a grasp on how much they value Hayes

he's not some unloved prospect out there that a highly protected 1st and another PG they're not gonna want to pay is gonna get...

I would actually consider dealing Washington, Graham, Monk, and/or Bridges as well if we could get Lonzo and a starting PF or C. I still stand by the fact that we no longer have the luxury of waiting for prospects to develop over too many years...unless there’s noticeable year over year improvement. It’s a win now situation. We have our star, we’re also a small market...so we need to do all that is possible in order to keep him here.

I think some of you are overvaluing Hayes. Yes he’s got some game and length, a good athlete, and has played well recently, but doesn’t have great range on his jumper, is an average rebounder/shot blocker. I like him, and would be glad to get him, but not at the cost of a decent first round pick and key players. Same for Lonzo with him. But hopeful there is a deal to be made for one of these big guys.

I have zero interest in paying Lonzo his next contract so count me as a no.

Also for those thinking having Lonzo here would help us keep LaMelo; I think it’s good for each Ball to carve out their own identity with their own team. That family dynamic was so thick and controlled, it probably seems refreshing to find your own space and place.

I think we should look to deal Hayward, I don't think his impact is as high as we think it is and we can get some really good assets and build around LaMelo

Id be down to trade Hayward, Rozier, and Graham, and just restart with a totally new direction. I can't see the front office shifting gears like that though. We've seen how our front office gets when they can smell the playoffs.

I want them to trade Graham now regardless of the plan (upon further reflection), but don't see it happening because he likely has no trade value while our coach thinks hes Chris Paul lite.

Trading Graham is problematic because he makes so little. A player almost has to be in the Zeller range to have something legit coming back. It's the same dynamic with Aldridge's contract - which is more attractive as a buyout than a trade.

Seriously, at this point a Cousins or Dedmon might be the best option. Trades are tough for fit and cost, especially with the league effectively devoid of a middle class and so many teams in playoff contention.

Since we can't have nice things...

Rozier for James Johnson and top 5 protected 1st (Dallas)

Graham for Gasol (waive), a 1st and a 2nd.

I don't want to tank but I'd hope we aren't deadline buyers now, unless there's a great deal for a young big. We don't have to solve it this season but I'd like to see us clear either Graham or Monk as our guards are too crowded.

Now have a legit reason to add Lonzo with the injury. He can be our pg the rest of the year. I’d go Rozier + Zeller for Ball + Adams. Adams has ruined spacing around Zion and I’m sure they regret that extension. Rozier gives them a legit starter at the 2. Adams gives the Hornets the rebounding and defense so badly needed and Lonzo will complement Melo for years with his defense and spot up
shooting and allow Melo to be more of a scorer.
