Great they landed Fears but crazy trading an unprotected 1st.

I believe in Fears but not in year 1.

I think Pelicans are in player collection mode. They will be setup for an awesome consolidation trade in the future depending on what guys excel, but yeah adding Fears and Queen is hard to hate on because both are so talented.

Zion- Murphy-Herb-Dejounte-Poole-Bey-Fears-Queen-Missi-Hawkins-Alvarado is 11 really good NBA talents imo. Maybe they need to make a trade in 12 months to compliment those guys but they are loading up.

Vs Hornets
Melo-Miller-Miles-Kon-Liam-Mann-Salaun-Grant-Green-Nurkic-Diabate

Clearly, they are more talented as of right now than us.

right... Even if fears is legit it's probably gonna take a year or two for it to really pan out on the floor. I think that's reasonable Expectation given how young he is and how difficult of a position that is to begin with. Same with Queen. Then you bring in Jordan Poole who isnt known for playing winning style basketball. Got Murray still rehabbing his injury. God knows what's happening with Zion. Just a bonkers gamble to trade an unprotected 2026 first.

The other team getting talked about a lot today are the five picks that the Nets made. Thoughts on them selecting three or four pick and roll initiators obviously that's a valuable position but seems like some crazy overlap. thoughts?

Dumars had a primary target (Fears 7) and secondary target (Queen 14).

Had Jeff just taken Fears, Dumars would've gone straight to Peterson and Charlotte would've had Kon 7 plus 2026 Pelicans 1st unprotected.

And if Kon wasn't there, was the falloff to our second target too great to risk losing Kon to the Jazz or Wizards?

He gets obsessed with his guy and buys his own press about culture.

Peterson is a **** weirdo.

Sure. Then Ace goes 6 and at 7 you have Tre Johnson.

So Tre Johnson + 2026 Pelicans unprotected 1st > Kon all day long.

A look far into the future...to the year July 2025...

Shams Update: Kon Knueppel to miss Vegas SL due to tricky hangnail surgery. His camp originally thought it could be corrected through treatment but it did not respond. Charlotte knew of this situation pre-draft, it didn't change their calculus.

Shams Update 2: Liam McNeely sprained his right achilles while lifting the Torah for his nephew in a freak Bar Mitzvah accident. Team is going to be cautious and hopes to have him back for Summer League 2026.

sort of feels like to me that the FO had the same destined-for-Cooper or bust mentality of some people on this board and their post lottery cope was to just take two Cooper-adjacent guys that look like Cooper and pretend as hard as they can that they are all-around two-way players with franchise culture changing ability like Cooper is.

Shades of MKG

Feel the exact same way. No pun intended, it felt like the FO waving a white flag on this draft and going with the guy who won't have too negative or positive of an impact either way. Similar to how they punted last year's draft, but in a total opposite direction, and are trying to pass it off as a "culture pick" just like MKG.
Your Charlotte Hornets! We’ll eventually get something right;right?
