Re: Around The NBA 2.0
time for the pacers. this will be interesting, since their most successful period came while they were part of the ABA.
http://hoopshype.com/galleries/hoopshyp ... rs-history
my best guess at their top 15 players
1.reggie miller (1)
2.mel daniels - was the heart and soul of 3 championship teams, 3x 1st team ABA, 6x all-star with pacers. hopefully hoopshype doesnt punish him for not scoring as much as others. (4)
3.rik smits - longevity wins out in this case, above avg center for a long time (6)
4.roger brown (2)
5.george mcinnis - has the best season ever by a pacer, 29ppg, 14rpg, ABA MVP (4)
6.jermaine oneal (5)
7.billy knight - lifetime achievement award (7)
8.freddie lewis - another member of that STACKED ABA team (10)
9.danny granger (8)
10.chuck person (12)
11.bob netolicky - more from the ABA team. seriously, the pacers were the celtics of the ABA (15)
12.vern flemming - another lifetime achievement award, average starter for a super long time (9)
13.dale davis - the enforcer if the late 90s pacers. (13)
14.roy hibbert - somebody from the current team deserves a nod (20)
15.don buse - gotta give him props for the sick season he had when he averaged 4.1spg. (26)
lets see how much ABA love hoopshype has (edit - lots of love. nice work hoopshype)

Any exceptional big man coach is just as good as Hakeem if not better. Its not as if Hakeem has secret post moves to teach that no one has ever seen.

It's not the teaching, it's the ability to execute them successfully.
That's why it's so rare to see anyone of Hakeem's size do the things he could do. He was unique, not the moves.
If the teaching part was easy Hendo would be like Jordan.

40 minute games? what are your thoughts?
I'd rather a wider court (wider key for sure) and less games per year.

Re: Around The NBA 2.0
the memphis grizzlies top 50
http://hoopshype.com/galleries/hoopshyp ... es-history
could be real tight in the top 5 here. no clear cut top 5. do you go for stats or wins since there isnt a great combination of both?
my best guess
1.pao gasol (1)
2.marc gasol - i am putting him this high because he is a winner (2)
3.sharif abdur rahim - i like rahim's empty stats a little better than rudy's, more pts, more rebounds, better %s, higher PER (3)
4.rudy "empty stats" gay - he wont be any higher on my list. i dont care how many pts he scored for them (4)
5.mike conley (5)
6.zach zandolph (6)
7.shane battier - stats will never do him justice (8)
8.mike miller (7)
9.bryant "big country" reeves (10)
10.tony allen - mayo might have more stats, but allen was more important (12)
11.oj mayo (9)
12.mike bibby (15)
13.jason williams (11)
14.stomile swift? - how does a player this awful get consideration for a franchises top 15? (13)
15.lorenzen wright (14)
tony allen is ranked too low by hoopshype. not enough respect for what he does on defense. mayo too high, more empty stats. battier too low. again, not enough respect for his defense, and in battier's case his amazing leadership. he did more for that franchise than mike miller. no doubt. THERE IS A BRAIN AT HOOPSHYPE!! they have gay below marc gasol. bless them for that. thank you.

The injury problems that have plagued Emeka Okafor throughout his career popped up again on Wednesday with the news out of Washington that the veteran center will be out indefinitely after being diagnosed with a herniated disc in his neck.

Pretty big loss for Washington.

the orlando magic
http://hoopshype.com/galleries/hoopshyp ... ic-history
they have had 5 franchise players in their history and sadly for them, they all left too soon, except hill who couldnt leave fast enough.
my best guess at the top 15
1.dwight howard - gets the nod over shaq purely for having played more years. both lead teams to finals. both got destroyed in the finals. both left too early on bad terms. (1)
2.shaquille oneal (2)
3.tracy mcgrady (4)
4.penny hardaway (3)

12.rashard lewis (9)
13.jj redick (14)
14.grant hill - was supposed in the top 5. (13)
15.terry catledge (19)
surprised to see lewis ahead of horace. i didnt think it was close.
wow, penny ahead of mcgrady. i wasnt expecting that either. not sure of the justification other than penny was on a team that actually won a playoff series, although you put mcgrady with shaq and i am sure that changes. and this is coming from a big penny fan and mcgrady hater.

"The injury problems that have plagued Emeka Okafor throughout his career "
Huh???
Apart from that high ankle sprain the guy has been a bit of an ox. People were banging on about his back during his draft but that has never been a serious issue.
At all.

They haven't "plagued him", but he's had multiple seasons depleted by injury and definitely isn't the player he once was, likely because of them.

Re: Around The NBA 2.0
Article on Insider if winners/losers the first 2 years under the new CBA. Here's what it says for Charlotte.
No, the new CBA didn't help them exchange their nickname in favor of the one discarded by New Orleans, but it did help in other ways. The team was projected to lose about $14 million this season without revenue sharing, but with the contributions from big-market teams and various revenue-related adjustments, the team is projected to have a basketball profit of around $6 million.
Operating in the black, plus the changing market for free agents, gave Charlotte options it otherwise would not have had, such as the ability to sign Al Jefferson. When was the last time a big-name free agent -- arguably the second-best available center, behind Dwight Howard -- signed in such a small market? Jefferson is just one data point, but his signing points to the new system being effective. The team also managed to snag Brendan Haywood at a cheap price with an amnesty waiver claim -- a new feature in the 2011 CBA.

Great timing for you to say this since we were mentioned in a recent ESPN Insider on "winners and losers of the new CBA" as winners and I couldn't decide in which thread should I mention this.
It was only two paragraphs, fats, and I quoted the three major sentences. I hope I am allowed to quote them to this extent:

I think we can and will eventually turn some of our assets into trading for an elite player. Kind of like what the Rockets did with Harden.

Re: Around The NBA 2.0
I don't think any player we have at the moment will command anywhere close to the Max.
At best Kemba will sign a Jrue Holiday/Ty Lawson type deal.
MKG will not get close to the max unless his scoring ability comes a long way.
Cody Zeller unless he is the next Aldridge or Bosh will not get near the max although I do believe he can be a star.
Biyombo will not get anywhere near the max even if he improves exponentially before his contract expires.
No team will give these guys close to the max either which will allow us room to maneuver our roster.
