His FG% was atrocious for a big man, even considering most of his FGs were 2-handed dunks. Lots of fumbling from passes that resulted in turnover stats for the PGs. There is a reason his nickname on the Raptors was "Bricktonio" and "Stonehandio".

To be fair, all NBA players have *some* measure of talent. But Antonio's talent is a tiny fraction of Jeremy Lin's.

Walter Cronkite, your post is of an even lower caliber because you are referencing your experience as a kid. Check AD's stats as a Raptor, his highlight reels on youtube (most of his plays were 2 handed dunks).

You're comparing the skills of one player (2 decades apart almost?) at a position that's almost totally different from another (PG vs C) and equating that one has a fraction of the talent of another. I think that's really lacking in value. Again, I look forward to these random posts that have nothing to do with the Hornets ("ESPN hating on Lin again/"Jeremy Lin to make Steph Curry money in Brooklyn") soon finding a home on another board.

The Davis', the Dunkin Dutchman, Reggie, Mark Jackson teams were really memorable teams from my childhood, but I was 10, so I was admitting to having limited context and Davis potentially being not as good as NBA telecasts made him seem. Before posting, I briefly looked at his stats, where his PER in his prime seemed to be around replacement level, but I'm not going to go and do a report on him or watch highlights of his, I truly do not care about Antonio Davis. There are so many better ways to spend the currency that is our time.

I've made points before that I think it's bizarre and sometimes creepy the way some humans express their Jeremy Lin fandom. I cannot relate to celebrity idolization. I find the idea of being a supporter of one individual instead of a team you have a connection with or even just following teams you enjoy watching to be more akin to pop culture fadishness than sports fandom. It's closer to Beatlemania than the Olympic games. But, if it makes you happy... go for it. I hate that so many of the fanatical Lin supporters habitually expressed a narrative where Jeremy Lin's value existed at the detriment of his teammates. That rooting against them so he had a better opportunity seemed appropriate. Scoffing at every Batum turnover or Kemba miss because someone had the gall to critique Lin for being careless with the ball or taking bad shots. That this now extends to Antonio Davis' surprise over Lin having a similar contract to Curry next season and now Davis is diminished as "talentless" is, to me, a childish mechanism that this board can't be free of soon enough... but again, who cares, it's Antonio Davis.

Antonio Davis was a good player. He was pretty washed up when he played for the Raptors but in his prime was very good. Dale Davis was the stonehanded, offensively inept, bruising goon of the Davis "Bros." Antonio actually had some face up game and a respectable mid range jumper.

I held back my opinions on Lin while he was here b/c of the passion of his many fans. Most of those fans were unbearable and made Liver Pooty seem even keeled and considerate. Some of the Lin fans were good additions to the board like bsw, tinmanz, Roy Tarpley, etc. But yeah, the Lin only fans were trying and I won't miss them one iota.

Which leads me to actual Lin criticism. He was a good Hornet and I'll actually miss him. He played hard, unselfishly, and was a + defender. I didn't mind his bad games of bad shooting and turnovers b/c he was usually playing through an injury (respect) and seemed a net positive. The only thing I didn't really like about his game was how one-dimensional he could be, particularly his tendency to throw his head down and drive drunken monkey style which usually resulted in a foul or getting clobbered for a no-call b/c he was wildly out of control. The latter happened enough that the Lin fans made a video compilation and whined to the refs enough that Lin experienced a sort of reparations whistles from the refs, like he was LeBron or Curry. You couldn't breathe on Lin without getting a foul and that irked the chit out of me. I hate it when superstars get that preferential treatment from refs and it would be hypocritical of me to like it b/c a Hornet was getting it.

Liked Lin the player, did not like Lin the worldwide phenomenon.

Losing Lin is a big loss. I'm sore as hell about it. Time to lock this thread, though. Let people go post on f*****n Brooklyn about it. Zaijian.

I don't understand your list, but I really hope the j.jeffries next to Gretsky is Jared.

It was a great year. Hornet fans are generally very kind and tolerant, and I really appreciate it. Wish the team all the best.

Brooklyn FO will not go after Rondo, IMO.
Most NBA stats aren't credible. At most times the people who interprets those data are biased, or the data themselves are flawed. Basketball is just too complicated with so many uncontrollable variables.

You guys have a great core of players and a bright future.
I'll be watching and rooting from afar after becoming a fan of Kemba, MKG, Marv and (gasp) Hawes.
Very much enjoyed being on your board and learned a lot from the members.

Sigh. From my Facebook news feed:

Jeremy Lin: Ex-New Orleans Pelicans Point Guard Agrees to 3-Year Deal With Brooklyn Nets
"The journey continues...thankful for the next chapter," Lin said on Facebook and Twitter Friday. The three-year deal is worth $36 million, according to ESPN's Chris Broussard and Marc Stein.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

I was quite shocked when I woke up this morning to see Lin's decision (I stay in Asia) and almost immediately my thoughts went to the Hornets. I am a little sad that Lin and the Hornets are parting way TBH. But I guess that's life. Colleagues, friends, girlfriends will come and go in our lives. But for some, we hold special or fond memories of.

While mostly a lurker, I have developed an emotional attachment to the Hornets and the many wonderful posters and moderators on this board. In fact, the Hornet's RealGM forum is so far the only forum that I have posted anything since following Lin from his Linsanity days. The friendly people and community here makes it very easy to do so.

Special mentions:
fatlever - who is fair, kind, objective and very diplomatic in his approach
yosemiteben - whom I initially thought had a thing against Lin. But I grew to appreciate the no nonsense, to the point approach. Earned my respect in the CHA-MIA series when he was on RealGM Heat's forum series thread speaking his mind in a blunt manner, against all the other Heat supporters. In the last few pages before Lin announced his decision, I even discovered the funny side of yosemiteben.

Just like I still have a soft spot for the Bulls (MJ, Pippen, Kukoc), the Nets & the Mavs (JKidd), I will continue to root for the Hornets and follow the Hornet's game score and game recap on ESPN's NBA website on a regular basis.

While I doubt I will post on this board (a lurker doesn't really post much anyway so no difference), I will still drop in once in a while to check out this board.

Many have said this before, but I wish to reiterate because it comes from my heart. The organisation, fans and posters / moderators are a real class act.

All the best Hornets and the Hornet's RealGM community!

Man, thank you guys for embracing me last year. It really was my most enjoyable season in the NBA, and a big part of that was because of the fans (especially the kids who showed up with mohawks lol). It was awesome to be a part of a season that surpassed expectations and brought the city its first playoff win in years. I will always cherish my time in Charlotte, but I couldn't pass up this opportunity to continue seeing what I can do as a basketball player. Thank you Buzz City!!

Agreed. What's most weird is that the reason the weird turn happened was that someone that does not post here regularly, apparently is a Raptors fan, not sure if he's a Lin fan and somehow was blown up to all Lin fans. It's tough......oh well.....

Agreed. Really thankful for the Hornets to give Lin this opportunity to recover from the previous problems, fix his shot and improve along the way. Cliff has been IMO the best coach so far for Lin. He surely benefited greatly from his and Silas' tutelage. His teammates have been truly wonderful, it's really too bad there's the huge cap raise so it's difficult to retain FAs. The future is bright with Kemba/Batum/MKG/Frank/Cody. This year has not been without problems in terms of bball forum posting but it was surely something to be truly appreciated!

Thank you, best of luck!
