His FG% was atrocious for a big man, even considering most of his FGs were 2-handed dunks. Lots of fumbling from passes that resulted in turnover stats for the PGs. There is a reason his nickname on the Raptors was "Bricktonio" and "Stonehandio".
To be fair, all NBA players have *some* measure of talent. But Antonio's talent is a tiny fraction of Jeremy Lin's.
Walter Cronkite, your post is of an even lower caliber because you are referencing your experience as a kid. Check AD's stats as a Raptor, his highlight reels on youtube (most of his plays were 2 handed dunks).
You're comparing the skills of one player (2 decades apart almost?) at a position that's almost totally different from another (PG vs C) and equating that one has a fraction of the talent of another. I think that's really lacking in value. Again, I look forward to these random posts that have nothing to do with the Hornets ("ESPN hating on Lin again/"Jeremy Lin to make Steph Curry money in Brooklyn") soon finding a home on another board.
The Davis', the Dunkin Dutchman, Reggie, Mark Jackson teams were really memorable teams from my childhood, but I was 10, so I was admitting to having limited context and Davis potentially being not as good as NBA telecasts made him seem. Before posting, I briefly looked at his stats, where his PER in his prime seemed to be around replacement level, but I'm not going to go and do a report on him or watch highlights of his, I truly do not care about Antonio Davis. There are so many better ways to spend the currency that is our time.
I've made points before that I think it's bizarre and sometimes creepy the way some humans express their Jeremy Lin fandom. I cannot relate to celebrity idolization. I find the idea of being a supporter of one individual instead of a team you have a connection with or even just following teams you enjoy watching to be more akin to pop culture fadishness than sports fandom. It's closer to Beatlemania than the Olympic games. But, if it makes you happy... go for it. I hate that so many of the fanatical Lin supporters habitually expressed a narrative where Jeremy Lin's value existed at the detriment of his teammates. That rooting against them so he had a better opportunity seemed appropriate. Scoffing at every Batum turnover or Kemba miss because someone had the gall to critique Lin for being careless with the ball or taking bad shots. That this now extends to Antonio Davis' surprise over Lin having a similar contract to Curry next season and now Davis is diminished as "talentless" is, to me, a childish mechanism that this board can't be free of soon enough... but again, who cares, it's Antonio Davis.
