IDK. I think that Dallas is edging towards being a worse situation than Charlotte at the moment. Dallas built it's hope on attracting specific free agents. So far they've struck out every time. That team's future is pretty uncertain as a result.

Charlotte on the other hand has a clear direction. They weren't even a good team last year but they are trending up. Ignoring the 2014 pick for a minute getting a solid veteran PF/C on the team would be a huge help. It would take the pressure off Zeller and solidify one of the team's greatest weaknesses from last year. And if not this year, then next year the team would need someone like that.

Here are some of the 2014 free agents: Kris Humphries, Luol Deng, Chris Bosh (ETO), Kwame Brown, Marcin Gortat, DeMarcus Cousins (restricted), Derrick Favors (Restricted), Emeka Okafor

Would any of those guys realistically be better fits that Al Jefferson? How many of them are realistic signings next year?

I think that if Al is willing to sign here then the team has to try. It really is the best move for the long term. Even without Al the Bobcats are going to have pretty low odds of getting that top pick next year.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

C'mon, I liked Kwame when he was here as well, but he doesn't belong on any exciting 2014 free agent list.

:noway: :nonono:  Sign Big Al and you can kiss chance at Wiggins in 2014 draft goodbye. This would blowup Cho's rebuilding plan. I like Jefferson allot, but he will probably end up in LAL, Dallas, or Houston after Dwight picks where he is going. I would like us to resign MCBob and maybe go after Dorrell Wright. Then keep Gordon let his contract expire and then amensity TT after the 2013-2014 season. Go after best available sf if we don't land Wiggens ie Marvin Williams and a big Center ie Gortat? In 2015 we WILL make the playoffs and could get into the second round or deeper. :reporter:

How many #1 picks has this team gotten ... ever? We would all like Wiggins, but even with a full tank and the worst record in the NBA do you really think that the Bobcats would end up with Wiggens? I don't.

Adrian Wojnarowski: Free agent Al Jefferson is expected to visit Charlotte on Wednesday to meet with Bobcats officials, league source tells Y! Sports. Twitter @WojYahooNBA

Man, they're serious about this.
I don't mind signing him, but at no more then $10MM/Yr for 3yrs. Maybe keep him fresh and playing him 50% of the games.

I still say the chances of him signing here are less than 10%.

I guess those rumours that Mike was getting impatient with rebuilding were factual.

Well maybe they plan to use him as an übercaliber Mullens the Tank General. showing numbers, maintaining value around the league while helping us to lose games with his, uhm, defense, lol.

I wonder how much post moves he could teach Biz and co. and more importantly if he could help Biz to get how he should guard him. Jefferson was one of the big man Biz has the most problem with, Al scored on him a lot each game (I think).

I mean as long as it is not a Higgins move, I am cautiously ok with it. But it could just be a Rod's one to balance Cho had his way in draft :(

I think the Bobcats got a good chance at signing Jefferson, they have more a chance than people want to admit. The Rockets already said if they cant land Howard, they are going to go after Josh Smith and if they don't get Howard they will still have Asik to play C, with Smith at PF, so the Rockets a no reason to sign Jefferson.

If Houston don't get Howard, he's most likely going to land in Dallas, so Dallas wouldn't need Jefferson. (I think he signs with the Rockets though)

The Jazz met with Millsap and they only plan on signing one of them, so, it looks like Millsap is the one they plan on re signing, not Jefferson. So, he's not going back to the Jazz.

Detroit has Monroe and Drummond, so they have no reason to look at signing Jefferson.

The only place for Jefferson to go is Charlotte. :D

Could he not go to Dallas if Houston lands D12? Were not the only place.

Dallas' backup plan is Bynum. They said that I think.

So Houston (D12), Dallas (Bynum and/or Smith) and Utah (Millsap) are not realistic for Al Jefferson. Perhaps Cho looked ahead and saw the limited size of Jefferson's market and can capitalize on it and bring him in for a deal that makes him a bargain contract and therefore an asset that can be used and/or traded in the future.

Think Kyler says that the Spurs have interest in Al. If so, and if they actually have the room to spend money on him, would be his best chance to get a ring. Just not sure they can pay him to bring him to San Antonio.

This Lowe's article about Utah may come handy.

Atlanta has boat loads of cash and so far they seem to be quiet.

I think it will come down to the Spurs or Bobcats, rather he wants to win right away, or rather he wants to be the face of a franchise and have more money... The Bobcats can offer him more money, they have young pieces that will be around him for the future, but he can win right now with the Spurs.

Jefferson is meeting both tonight and tomorrow with Charlotte. Charlotte is the only known suitor at the time.

Per Marc Stein.

The Spurs would try to sell Jefferson on him being the next wave alongside Parker when Duncan hang it up. Of course the Bobcats should be the more entertaining offer, but the perception around the basketball world doesn't help

Wow. I guess every team with that kind of cap space is talking to Dwight, Smith, and Bynum first.
