i'm gonna get teased for this but it's all true - i'm seriously not plugged into music of the last 5 years or so but i've been digesting MIA on the heavy for the past few months and she is a true badass.

another great example of why Eurovision is pretty awesome. the over the top grandeur is so unintentionally comical.

that is pretty old school, metal sounding song.

I definitely agree. They fell off after Master of Puppets, but at least Justice and the black album were tolerable. i didn't like any of their 90s or 2000s works, including death magnetic.

EDIT - Speaking of Master of Puppets...

My Sacrifice Lyrics

Hello my friend, we meet again
It's been awhile, where should we begin?
Feels like forever
Within my heart are memories
Of perfect love that you gave to me
Oh, I remember

When you are with me, I'm free
I'm careless, I believe
Above all the others we'll fly
This brings tears to my eyes
My sacrifice

We've seen our share of ups and downs
Oh how quickly life can turn around
In an instant
It feels so good to reunite
Within yourself and within your mind
Let's find peace there

When you are with me, I'm free
I'm careless, I believe
Above all the others we'll fly
This brings tears to my eyes
My sacrifice

I just want to say hello again
I just want to say hello again

When you are with me I'm free
I'm careless, I believe
Above all the others we'll fly
This brings tears to my eyes
Cause when you are with me I am free
I'm careless, I believe
Above all the others we'll fly
This brings tears to my eyes
My sacrifice, My sacrifice

I just want to say hello again
I just want to say hello again.

my favorite bass lines part 1

only so much oil in the ground - tower of power
- rocco prestia on bass

(you could pretty much take any ToP song and have a nasty baseline, but this one is my fave of theirs)
(also features my favorite drummer of all-time - david garibaldi - creating the sickest rhythm section of the 70s)

video of a dude nailing this bassline - bass elevated to hear it

Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, eight brothers from Chicago, all sons of jazz trumpeter, Phil Cohran.

Bonus quiz: what 2012 movie featured this tune as the theme song for one of its characters?
EDIT: This song was the theme music to Cesar Flickerman's show in the Hunger Games.

i dig this one snidely, reminds me of groove collective, NYC 90s jazz/funk/latin/acid jazz outfit.

this one very latin jazz

this one is funktastic... this is the kind of stuff i'd play at the arena if they put me in charge

god damn i love a good funky horn line. i havent listened to this tune in probably 10 years. i could never get my cd to burn to my PCs. i forgot how nasty it is. that bassline is tremendous.

I heard this streaming on twitch yesterday and I can't get it outta my head! Fits right in the timeline of the height of my obsession with basketball in the late 80's/early 90's. I would get downright ornery if i missed any games back in the day. Glad I'm more balanced now that I was in Jr. High!

Fats, did you ever listen to this one, more funky horn lines, based on Herbie Hancock's jazz classic Cantaloupe Island?
