My 'only' concern about Vonleh is that he's a turnover machine right about now

Maybe a Jermaine O'Neal comparison could work too. A little shorter but I can see some similarities. I think O'Neal was lighter when he was drafted.

Wow, what a great draft for us overall. Were all expecting disaster lol.

i also think vonleh is not the leaper that jermaine o'neal was when he was younger. that leaping ability made o'neal one of the best rim protectors in the league for awhile before he got old and sludgy.

This is probably valid. He's not raw in the sense that he lacks skills. But he does need quite a bit of work. I do think having a coach like Clifford will help Vonleh be a better defender. On tape it appeared he had some mental mistakes that hurt him, but he certainly has the talent.

So I do think he is unrefined, but I have every reason to think he can reach his potential here. You've got to remember he's 18. The youngest player in the draft (I think?). He's got room to grow.

His game is rudimentary, very basic but has all the foundations in place.

Raw to me means crude, almost non existent or non existent.

Vonleh is more unrefined than raw, his game needs refinement, the tools are already there.

He didn't play tons of minutes at Indiana, why I don't know but when he did get to play he was highly highly productive. Great rebounder, blocks shots, hits 3's (49%) and jumpers at high rates, what's not to like. Seems like a perfect fit with Jefferson to create space.

Every single one of us hoped we'd draft Vonleh when we realised he fell to us. It wasnt until after we drafted him did we all wonder why he dropped to us which is a legitamte question to ask. Orlando chose to take the undersized Gordon ahead of him, Boston was worried about his character issues so they took someone who else who is known to have character issues over him. Remember we never got a chacne to see what kinda guy he is cause Vonleh didnt even wanna work out with us for some reason. I hope he turns out to be a good player for us, the talent is there, but asking why he dropped is a fair question.

I think Boston was going to take Smart regardless. They were in love with him. His character issues could be magnified by their nosy, pesky, incessant media. Boston is a tough market with potential to stir drama. I suspect Ainge and company didn't want to make Smart's character concerns an issue in interviews so they acted like they took character into account when passing on Vonleh and therefore logic follows they must have properly vetted Smart which they did. Just some textbook deflection and hedging should issues with Smart pop up down the road.

The Magic reached for Gordon - they're searching for a system and looking for defensive wizards. They took the best most versatile defender. He is their MKG pick but we've evolved past that phase. The Lakers simply liked Randle more than Vonleh. The Kings were desperate for a PG (Brandon Knigh?) and were shopping the pick like mad. They really wanted Smart. I suspect the Celtics can consider trading Rondo there for Stauskas if they can't land Love and pair him with Rondo to build a new supercore. The team still owns multiple assets including 2 Nets picks and a Clippers pick. Furthermore, I think the Kings see a match with the Celtics or at the very least feel comfortable (desperate) with the longshot of grooming Stauskas to emerge into a PG.

Have no idea what the rumored "character" issue is. Even though the Hornets didn't work him out, they use investigative efforts to profile all players. If there was an issue, it may be relative to personality more than a troubling incident. Noah has been described as somewhat timid, or lacking assertiveness. He is said to have a good work habit, and is dedicated to his craft. Some teams want everyone to be the next Alpha Dog. Noah may never be a team leader, but neither is Bosh or many other successful bigs. He can grow into being a more assertive young man with good guidance. I think our team is a perfect place for him to mature.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

I'm thinking they've done their research and due diligence on him, possibly even asking from other teams about how well his workout were for them too. Cho even mentioned that they had a select number of guys that they wanted and that were projected to go ahead of them but were willing to take any of them if they fell. I'm guessing they've looked at those other players as well.

Let's be clear Vonleh's agent advised him not to work out with the Hornets. Vonleh was told he would go before 9. In fact Vonleh even said that when the Hornets expressed interest in a workout, they told his agent they didn't believe he would be there at 9. This guy was probably 4 on their draft board.

Boston already has two other young power forwards, that's why they passed on him. They viewed him and Smart as close enough in potential that they felt comfortable going with the better fit for their roster. I think they made the right decision, the same is probably true with Randle. Sacramento is really the only team that legitimately passed on Vonleh, and given their recent drafting history that is nothing to worry about in my opinion. It's actually quite the opposite, it makes me feel better about the pick.

Do people really think Vonleh could wind up starting next season? He's super young and only played 26 MPG his one college season. I don't think he's close to ready to contribute more than 10-15 MPG.

Cody packed on some bulk. Our front court is a strength that will just grow stronger!!! We can play hardball with McRoberts.

I think we'll re-sign McRoberts, and he'll start at the beginning of the season. As far as Vonleh & Zeller, I think they'll duke it out for minutes in the frontcourt as well as Biyombo through summer league and training camp. Eventually, if one of Vonleh or Zeller prove to be worthy of the starting lineup (big 'if') midseason, they might be able to overtake McRoberts' role. That's my outlook on it

I would be highly surprised if we go into next season with just Zeller & Vonleh as depth at PF

Looks like Vonleh was working out!

Putting in work.

Cody's going to prove the doubters wrong this season imo.
