He tryna tell Clifford that he could do what Roy do but better.

Meh, he can't though. The guy he guarded (Chris McCullough) also pretty much scored at will - he had 37 points on 12-20 FG. And just watching the game, Wood clearly was only focused on the offensive end.

Hibbert and Wood are pretty much on opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of skill set.

That's slightly discouraging then. Volume scorers in the DL generally stay in the DL. Obviously Christian has a big boy contract but the same applies.....in fact the lack of nuanced soft skills and professional work habits have been knocks.

Highlights from Swarm game last Friday, good example of pluses and minuses in CWood's game:

First play - gets a block that he hits right back to the shooter under the basket, who recovers and scores.

Third play - gets easily moved out of position for a board (to be fair looked like a push), has very slow recovery, blocks shot in the paint but is recovered by shooter under the basket who puts it right back up and scores.

What's nice to see is the play that starts at 54 seconds - crashes from the weak side, blocks the shot and takes the ball. Same thing at 1:17, except this time he dives on the ball. In both cases, he doesn't check out after the block.

Nice to see him take and make uncontested jumpers, and he is very, very good at attacking close outs. He makes great use of his length, just need to see more focus on the defensive end.

Highlights of game last Thursday where he dominated offensively:

I think it's Clifford "The Rainman" at his finest. If you're a 4, you only became a 5 by accident. Zeller and Kaminsky were power forwards until a crisis came. The same might apply to Wood. He's concerned that he's too skinny for the 5.

I hope they'll build him up at the offseason (aswell as MKG...)

Because at one point I had the impression that every player that would come to charlotte would build his arms in a couple of month, which I assumed was the reason why all of a sudden any good shooter would become a bad shooter in Charlotte.

Based on the Swarm games I watched, Toby is way ahead of Wood developmentally when it comes to defense. Wood used his length and athleticism to get blocks, but his positioning, effort, and general awareness on that end were not good. Doesn't surprise me that Toby would get the nod.

he looked like vonleh yesterday. had little idea where to be and what to do both offensively and defensively. with that said, i would rather watch him than tobey at this point in the sunk season.

Yeah I don't think Wood has a lot of awareness. Doesn't seem like a smart player, but you know what? Sometimes you just need an athletic guy to run the floor, crash the glass, and make things happen as long as you can live with the occasional blooper. I don't see why he can't be a JaVale McGee type player- who has proven to be quite useful in limited minutes for Golden State.
