Scoot attempted 3.4 free throws per75 possessions and Miller shot 5.9 per75, but because of the GLeague free throw rule I think this is a similar foul drawing rate.
I think their free throw rule also makes GLeague players true shooting percentages look weird because they are getting more points off free throws than it looks like if you glance at their numbers (not even sure how they calc it for GLeague tbh).
I hope the GLeague goes back to normal free throw rules.

Re: The Brandon Miller Thread
Really like his defense, think he becomes one of our better defenders as soon as his rookie year especially playing next to Mark.
Ballhandling, I don't think it's his handle as much as his quickness (or lack thereof) and questionable decision-making that gets him in trouble. Could also stand to develop a mid-range game as a fallback. Maybe if he gets stronger and learns to use his length better.
Something concerning is how his percentages go down facing better competition. (32% 3FG, 39% overall vs teams in BT's top 50.)

Brandon Miller Defensive Strengths video.
I can see how it would be helpful to have a 6'9 wing defender

Chase down blocks- but bad athlete..mmkkay..
Switches onto guards, moves feet and blocks shots... but bad athlete... mmmkay
I doubt he is ever Mikal Bridges, but hard to ever imagine us in a playoff series and teams choosing to put him in screen roll and try to expose his defense. Seems like his defensive floor is rather high.

Re: The Brandon Miller Thread
I have also seen multiple draft analysts, college scouts talk about how Miller is actually really good in the midrange.
However, Nate Oats just philosophically is a 3s and layups coach.
Not going to freak out because it is against HS players, but I am more referencing that the scouting reports specifically mentioned it was a main strength of his. Which makes sense at 6-9 that he can shoot over the defense.

Re: The Brandon Miller Thread
Brandon Miller isn't some generational athlete, but I think he is just as athletic as Brandon Ingram, Mikal Bridges, Franz Wagner etc etc.. maybe even more idk.
Here he is dunking from SEC logo in the game. I mean does he have to dunk from Free Throw line to be athletic?
Here he is punching it on top of a 6-6 guy, non-athletes don't even try this.
Same here, dunking on two 6-9 dudes through contact, one of which is a NBA first round prospect
Here he is crossing a dude and then trying to end the life of the big sliding over. He missed, but again do not athletic dudes even try these plays?

Miller has a really good handle for a 6'9 guy, he isn't Harrison Barnes. He should be able to make things happen off the dribble in the NBA.

Re: The Brandon Miller Thread
Miller's vertical hops don't concern me. It's his first step that does.
There were several occasions where he struggled to create space vs college defenders. It is perfectly possible he develops the finesse side of his game for this not be be an issue.
I firmly believe the difference between him being another Marvin Williams vs the new PG13 is his ability to get past his defenders at the next level.

Dribbling isn't a skill that automatically transfers from college ball to NBA. Rewatch KZ Okapala clips from his time in Stanford and he looks like a legit point forward. Now vs NBA pressure, I wouldn't trust him to not dribble the ball off his leg. Even MKG looked like a point forward in Kentucky, but he rarely showed flashes of that with us.
I'm not saying he will have no handle in the league, its just not something that is guaranteed. Hard to judge how a lot of these wing prospects will look as secondary ball handlers once they make the jump.

He handled the ball a ton in college, it's not like we are looking at 5 clips and trying to project him to be able to do it. Not many 6-9 dudes in college are isoing in the corner, tween crossing a dude and then trying to throw down on a 6-10 big.
He is a freshman in college, he is going to add strength to his frame which will help him create space too.

Re: The Brandon Miller Thread
So he continued to do the "pat down" pregame celebration after the shooting incident.
Based on this and his alleged involvement in the shooting, I'm starting to think that at the very least, he is the most aloof dude in the entire world.

I think purple drank guzzlin, MJ video posting Miles Bridges still wears that crown.

Howard Mass wrote:dmutombo321 wrote:Piggy backing on Fats' MPJ post above, these are my reservations about Miller.
Players like MPJ and Jabari Smith are brought up, not as direct comps (as they're PFs while Miller is a string bean wing), but bc their bread and butter is so similar to Miller's; they're high level shooters who do most of their damage off spot up and 1-2 dribble jumpers. They're straight line drivers if you give them the opening but they aren't particularly adept evading defenders via change of direction off the dribble, nor do they own a deep bag of counter moves (a la Tatum, Brown, Ingram, Banchero, etc). That's not to say those skills can't be honed (Harrison Barnes was one of those players coming out of college and expanded his game enough to parlay some big paydays, but it's still quite mechanical and he was never good enough to be a franchise centerpiece)...

dmutombo21,
Please check your RealGM PM's.
Thanks!
Last time I got one of these I was vehemently banned from the GB. Lol.

Charlotte is planning on sending its attorneys to Tuscaloosa this week to conduct their own investigation into Miller's involvement in the Jan. 6 shooting, and Miller plans to fly to Charlotte in mid-June for a workout and follow-up interview.

Re: The Brandon Miller Thread
Listened to the Combine and Shams interviews with Miller. Different vibe from Scoot for sure, but still get that alpha mentality from him too.
He did mention defense multiple times and how if the offense is off for a night, still contributing to help the team win. Said lots of things that we are looking for....wing scorer, defensive-minded, versatile guarding 1-4, etc.
For a fan group that moaned all year long about players that don't play defense and not having a lethal shooter, Miller definitely would fix those things potentially. If the plan is to play him beside Ball at the 2....whew. We could have some serious matchup advantages.
Still a Scoot fan, but this really is shaping up to BY vs. Stroud. I don't think we can be wrong here.

Re: The Brandon Miller Thread
I really don't dislike him as a prospect. My biggest thing is we already have enough personality hazards on this team (Miles incident last summer, LaMelo running red lights just outside of Spectrum Center). Adding another youngster with troubled history could be disastrous.
If we do end up bringing in Miller, I would hope we just let Miles walk. Miles is not a great enough of a player to take such risk on. Letting him go will save money, open up room for Miller, and probably save fans and front office alike some sanity.
