Toronto receive: Rudy Gay, Hamed Haddadi

Memphis receive: Ed Davis, Tayshaun Prince, Austin Daye, Raptors 2nd rounder

Detroit receive: Jose Calderon

Look out for the Raptors as playoff contenders next season. A lineup of Lowry/DeRozan/Gay/Bargnani/Valancunias with Terrence Ross and Amir Johnson being key reserves could make for some excitement in the East. I'll spot them at least 5th-6th seed in 2014 playoffs.

I'm disappointed Ed Davis got traded cuz probably means he's locked up in MEM now. Davis a guy I would've loved to see on the 'Cats.

MEM making smart trades with Hollinger on board imo.

I can't imagine a team making a trade with them for Bargnani except maybe the Lakers with Pau Gasol. I think Bargs will remain with the Raptors at least until the trade deadline of next season.

Looks like Detroit finally realized Brandon Knight is a horrible PG

It depends on what the outlook of these moves are. The recent trades that the Grizzlies have made doesn't make them better now but will probably give them more flexibility in the future. They brought in just enough talent to keep them relevant in playoff conversations this season. I'm almost sure their next move is to deal Zach Randolph within another year or two.

Calderon is an expiring. The Pistons will likely attempt to make a run at O.J. Mayo this offseason with the cap space before trying to re-up Calderon. In the meantime I expect them to move Knight to starting SG duties alongside Calderon as the starting PG.

Trading a guy who's 23, on a rookie contract, and averaging 13 points on 56% shooting and eight rebounds as a starter for Rudy Gay. This is why they are the Craptors, folks.
Humble yourself.

The Raptors traded Ed Davis away because they believe in Jonas Valancunias' future. Eventually they would've had to trade one or the other. It's not as bad as it appears unless you're looking at their cap space but when was the last time you seen a big time free agent consider Toronto as a destination besides the Canadian Steve Nash?

Why couldn't Davis and Valancunias play together?

He's a SG anyway, so he'll be playing where he belongs.

Pistons now forced to spend money this offseason. Guess they are going to throw it all at OJ Mayo, or resign Calderon. I don't know.

Good for the Raptors, they can finally inch closer to being that 9th seed.

Anything that gets more teams out of the way for the Wiggins/Parker draft, I'm all for.

I'm not saying that they couldn't play together but Ed Davis was becoming more of a asset for the Raptors than a contributor for them the more they loss because Amir Johnson was just as capable of similar numbers to Davis without the appeal.

Why would the raptors covet Ross and not Ed Davis?

Rumor has it that the Raptors might trade DeRozan and Bargnani to the Hawks for Josh Smith, making Ross their SG of the future.

Don't you think Josh Smith will just sh*t a brick if he's traded to TOR?

This sounds like an awfully familiar criticism of a player we all now love... :-? I don't think Knight is horrible, but I also don't think he's ever going to be anything more than a slightly below average starter. They'll probably run Calderon at the point for more passing, bring Knight along slowly and maybe Calderon mentors him.

Detroit just replaced their current best defensive player and longtime icon of mediocrity with quite possibly a worse defensive point guard than DJA. They may have to start Maggette or Singler at the 3, unless they're planning to go small and start Stuckey at the 3 or something. Yuck.
